Chapter 8 – Life of Weeds

After leaving the blacksmith's shop, Gu Changge sensed the location of the young Daoist acolyte and headed in his direction with the ore in hand.

Since breaking through to the Yuanfu Realm, not only had the True Qi within him multiplied, but he had also developed an extremely mysterious sensing ability.

This sensing ability was difficult to describe.

Gu Changge speculated that this might be the legendary Spiritual Sense.

However, since he hadn't yet encountered more advanced cultivation knowledge in this world, he couldn't determine if everyone felt this way upon breaking through.

Nevertheless, with this ability, he easily locked onto Qingfeng's location.

Gu Changge walked over slowly.

Carrying a large pile of stones, he appeared somewhat odd to others on the street.

Compared to the men, the young ladies on the road were more interested in his looks.

Cultivators of the Yuanfu Realm had sharp senses, able to hear whispers even from dozens of meters away.

As he walked along, the young maidens shyly hid far away, their bright eyes curiously observing him.

Gu Changge remained calm and indifferent, having long grown accustomed to such gazes over the years.

It wasn't his fault for being handsome.

He didn't want to cause such a stir.

After walking for a while, Gu Changge sensed that the distance between him and the young Daoist acolyte was only a few dozen meters.

He looked ahead and suddenly noticed a noisy spot on the street, with a large crowd gathered to watch the commotion.

Amidst the noise, he seemed to hear Qingfeng's voice.

Gu Changge squinted slightly and murmured, "Could it be that kid?"

...

In the crowd, a small open space was cleared.

Surrounded by onlookers, a few people in the middle were the main focus.

Qingfeng, his face full of anger, stood protectively in front of a little girl, confronting the fierce-looking individuals before him. "What did she do wrong for you to chase and beat her like this?"

Behind him, the little girl was dirty all over, trembling as she hugged her arms and curled up.

Her small face was filled with fear and pain, her tattered clothes bearing bloody whip marks and claw scratches, with wounds faintly visible on her skin.

Not far from the little girl, a small piece of dusty and greasy steamed bun lay on the ground.

The other individuals, likely servants from some household, wore matching uniforms with rolled-up sleeves revealing their hairy, muscular arms. One of them held a blood-stained whip.

"Little Daoist, I advise you not to meddle in others' affairs! Or I'll beat you too!" one of the servants, whip in hand, sneered threateningly at Qingfeng.

He didn't act immediately, though.

Rising Dragon City was home to many renowned temples and Daoist monasteries with significant influence. Not even his master dared to offend them.

Though Qingfeng was just an unknown young Daoist, the servant dared not act rashly.

Qingfeng gritted his teeth, standing firm in front of the little girl, his face full of stubbornness as he stared intently at the servant.

Seeing this, the servant holding the whip grew angry and said coldly, "This little beggar stole from my household. Shouldn't she be punished?"

"Nonsense!" Qingfeng pointed at the little girl behind him and said, "In her state, could she even get into your household to steal? Are you all just a bunch of useless eaters?"

"Hahaha!" The onlookers couldn't help but laugh.

This little beggar was indeed too weak to enter places guarded by these thugs.

The leading servant's grip on the whip tightened, his knuckles cracking as he resisted the urge to lash out at Qingfeng. He pointed viciously at the small piece of steamed bun on the ground and said, "This is something my household threw out to feed the dogs. Isn't taking it stealing?"

"I'll tell you this!" The servant's eyes were cold as he said, "My young master said that even if it's fed to stray dogs, not a crumb will be given to these beggars!"

Wow!

His words immediately caused an uproar among the crowd.

Qingfeng glared at him angrily and said, "In your eyes, are people worth less than dogs?"

"Heh!" The servant snorted and said, "Don't you know? Human lives are like grass, and grass isn't worth as much as a dog's life."

"Ah San, what's going on here?" At this moment, a young man in fine clothes, surrounded by several servants, walked in and frowned at the scene before him.

Among the servants, one was particularly striking.

He was tall and imposing, with a massive battle knife strapped to his back, exuding an intimidating aura.

Seeing this, he furrowed his brow slightly and fell silent.

"Young Master!" The previously fierce servant instantly turned into a fawning Peke, softening his voice and smiling apologetically, "There was a small incident. A young Daoist blocked the way."

The young man glanced at Qingfeng, then at the little beggar behind him, a hint of disdain flashing in his eyes. "Judging by this young Daoist's shabby appearance, he can't be from any renowned monastery. Get rid of him quickly, and throw that little beggar out of the city."

"I really don't know what the City Guard is doing, letting these people in. Not only are they an eyesore, but they also pollute the air of Rising Dragon City. As soon as I stepped out, I smelled a stench. Why didn't these people die in Hexi instead of coming here!"

"Understood, Young Master!" The servant nodded obsequiously, then straightened his back as he turned, signaling the other servants with his eyes, "Drag this young Daoist aside!"

Several servants, having received the order, grinned maliciously as they approached Qingfeng.

Qingfeng, after all, was just a child. Seeing this, he instinctively took a step back, a trace of fear finally rising in his heart.

With his thin arms and legs, how could he be a match for these men?

In this moment of crisis, he couldn't help but think of Gu Changge, biting his lip and anxiously calling out in his heart.

Senior Brother, where are you!

Just as the servants were about to grab Qingfeng, a sudden gust of wind blew from the side.

The onlookers gasped.

The wind felt strange, making it hard for them to stand steady.

The burly servants were swept up by the wind and thrown aside, landing with a thud on the ground.

"Ouch!"

"Hiss—"

The men groaned in pain, disoriented from the fall.

The young master, who was about to turn away, saw this and his eyes narrowed, his expression turning grim.

The swordsman behind him also squinted, looking towards the edge of the crowd.

A young Daoist slowly walked in from the outskirts of the crowd, his face calm and composed, his Daoist robe exuding an extraordinary aura. An invisible force pushed aside anyone in his path.

"Did you ask me before touching my Daoist acolyte?" Gu Changge's gaze was indifferent as he looked at the young master, causing the latter to shiver and involuntarily take a step back.
