Chapter 11 – The Bodyguard Knocked Out

“What if I say no?”

Jiang Hao looked at Wan Zhiming and spoke in an unhurried tone.

Wan Zhiming glanced at him and swirled the red wine in his glass. “Do you think you have any room to choose?”

“Why wouldn’t I?”

“So that means you’re rejecting my terms.”

“If that’s what you want to call it, then sure.” Jiang Hao spread his hands, looking completely indifferent.

Wan Zhiming couldn’t help laughing out loud. Then he looked at Jiang Hao coldly. “You really are a newborn calf that isn’t afraid of tigers. Since you refuse the toast and insist on drinking the forfeit, then I’ve got no choice.” He set down his glass, stood up, and said to the bald man beside him, “Qiangzi, I’ll leave him to you.”

The bald man was still playing on his phone as he made an OK gesture to Wan Zhiming.

Wan Zhiming shot Jiang Hao one last glance, let out a cold snort, and strode out of the room.

A moment later, the sound of a car starting up and driving away came from outside.

The bald man still had his head lowered, completely absorbed in his game.

The burly man covered in slabs of flesh was still staring at Jiang Hao as well, but after Wan Zhiming left, the sharpness in his eyes turned into bloodthirst. He looked like a starving lion staring at the antelope in front of him.

The room fell silent.

After a while, Jiang Hao walked over to the refrigerator by the side. He was thirsty.

He opened it. Inside were all kinds of drinks and bottled water.

He took out a bottle of cola, twisted the cap open, and gulped it down.

When the bald man noticed what Jiang Hao was doing, he stopped his game, took off his earphones, raised his head, and demanded in an icy voice, “Who the Fing Hell said you could open the fridge and take a drink?”

“Aren’t the drinks in the fridge meant to be drunk?” Jiang Hao asked blandly.

“What the hell are you? You think you’re qualified to drink them? Young Master Wan paid for that!”

“But I’m already drinking it, so what are you going to do about it? Want me to pay for it? Fine.” As Jiang Hao drank, he pulled five yuan from his pocket and put it on the table beside the fridge. “That’s for the drink. Keep the change.”

“You’ve got guts, kid.” The bald man gave Jiang Hao a thumbs-up.

“Don’t come in!”

“Move aside! Or don’t blame me for getting rough.”

An argument suddenly broke out outside the door.

“What now?”

The bald man shouted outside, irritation flashing across his face.

Very quickly, the driver came trotting in. “Brother Qiang, there’s a big-built guy outside insisting we kidnapped his friend. He’s trying to force his way in, and we stopped him.”

The bald man glanced at Jiang Hao and demanded, “That guy outside—does he have anything to do with you?”

“No idea.”

Jiang Hao said he didn’t know, but he understood perfectly well. The one outside had to be Uncle Feng’s driver and bodyguard, Little Xu. When he left the Feng Family and got into the taxi, he had already noticed Uncle Feng’s driver tailing him.

Counter-surveillance was a basic requirement for any qualified assassin, let alone Jiang Hao, the King of Assassins with one foot already in the Transcendent Realm.

Little Xu was what Feng Wanming called the driver. As for his full name, Jiang Hao didn’t know.

The bald man gave a cold laugh. “Don’t know, huh?” Then he ordered the driver, “Bring in the bastard outside who wants to force his way in. Since he’s tired of living, I’ll grant his wish.”

“Got it!”

The driver answered excitedly, then turned and hurried out. It was obvious he had long since grown extremely pissed off at Little Xu outside trying to force his way in and had been itching to deal with him.

Not long after, Little Xu walked in behind the driver. He had a sturdy build, dark skin, a stern face, and a Buzz Cut.

The moment he saw Jiang Hao standing there safe and sound, not a hair out of place, the worry hanging in Little Xu’s heart finally eased.

Jiang Hao was the Feng Family’s future eldest son-in-law, the son of Feng Wanming’s war buddy. If anything had really happened to him, Little Xu truly wouldn’t have had the face to explain it to Feng Wanming.

Jiang Hao kept drinking his cola as if he hadn’t even seen Little Xu.

“Do you two know each other?” the bald man asked, looking at Little Xu.

“He’s my friend. I’m taking my friend out of here now.” Little Xu walked up to Jiang Hao. “Don’t be afraid of them. Just come with me.”

Before Jiang Hao could answer, the bald man burst out laughing. “Kid, are you stupid? You think after coming into a place like this, you can still walk out in one piece?”

“This is a society ruled by law. You people really think you can illegally detain someone?” Little Xu shouted in a deep voice.

“Here, I am the law. Try leaving and see what happens.” After saying that coldly, the bald man shot the burly man beside him a meaningful look. The man understood at once, nodded, and strode toward Little Xu and Jiang Hao.

The burly man’s steps were heavy, but his footing was steady, rooted like he was planted into the ground without the slightest false movement. He clearly had real skill.

Facing him, Little Xu showed no fear at all. He shifted his stance and stepped in front of Jiang Hao.

He had come from the special forces. His martial ability was already far beyond ordinary men, so naturally he had no reason to fear the burly man.

The burly man walked up to him and, without a word, threw a straight punch right at his face.

For all his huge frame and thick slabs of flesh, the moment the punch shot out, the wind from it roared like a tiger. Even though Little Xu raised an arm to block, the force behind it still shook him so hard he staggered back several steps before regaining his footing.

“What monstrous strength!”

Even Little Xu, a former special forces soldier, was shocked by the man’s power. He had never seen anyone whose punch carried such terrifying force.

The burly man didn’t stop. He pressed forward head-on and launched another wave of attacks at Little Xu, fists and kicks coming one after another.

After suffering from that first exchange, Little Xu no longer dared meet him head-on. He switched to an evasive defense, dodging and avoiding.

But constant defense always led to mistakes. After several exchanges, Little Xu was still struck in the abdomen by a savage kick.

Bang!

The kick sent him flying backward through the air. He only hit the ground after traveling four or five meters. Blood immediately spilled from his mouth and nose. He was clearly injured.

Little Xu had only just staggered to his feet when the burly man closed in again and resumed the attack.

Little Xu hadn’t been able to stop him even before he was hurt, let alone now that he had already suffered serious internal injuries. There was no way he could be the burly man’s match.

Bang… bang…

After another few rounds, having taken several heavy blows in succession, Little Xu finally could no longer remain standing. He swayed a few times and then collapsed unconscious.

Only then did the burly man stop and step back behind the bald man.

The driver looked at the unconscious Little Xu with open satisfaction and sneered, “Where’d all that swagger from just now go? Serves you right, you suicidal dog.”

Jiang Hao had watched the whole thing with cold eyes, offering Little Xu no help at all.

The reason was simple. He had already seen that Little Xu was no match for this bunch.

Little Xu’s appearance had done nothing except get in the way.

Now that Little Xu had been beaten unconscious, Jiang Hao was more than happy to see it. Only this way could he deal with these people without distraction.

“Kid, scared now?” The bald man looked at Jiang Hao and threatened, “If you keep resisting and refuse Young Master Wan’s proposal, your end will be even worse than his.”

“Your threats are useless on me.” Jiang Hao’s tone remained flat. Little Xu being beaten unconscious seemed to stir not the slightest ripple in his heart.

Clear anger appeared on the bald man’s face. “I’m taking you somewhere.” Without waiting for Jiang Hao to answer, he got up and walked outside. As he walked, he told the burly man and the driver, “If this kid refuses to come, knock him out and tie him up.”

Before the two men could move toward him, Jiang Hao had already followed the bald man out.

After leaving the house, the bald man and his group headed up a gravel path beside the building, just wide enough for one person, toward the thickly overgrown hill behind it.

Jiang Hao followed all the same.

Seeing him come along so obediently, the bald man and the others were slightly surprised, but after that, it made sense to them.

With that guy lying unconscious as an example, and with him now alone, obedience was his only option. Otherwise, he’d only end up suffering more pain.

The kid really did know when to submit—but he was still just a clueless fool. Feng Wanming truly must have gone blind with age, to break off the engagement and offend the Wan Family just to make this brat the Feng Family’s eldest son-in-law.
