Chapter 3 – A Chance Encounter with Schalke 04?

The thirty-minute intra-squad training match ended quickly.

Apart from that one assist, Su Bai had nothing to show for it.

As a forward, his zero shots on goal were unsurprisingly met with a few comforting words from North George.

Watching the Dortmund U18 players leave the field one by one, Su Bai turned around helplessly and returned to the sidelines, quietly packing up his jersey and boots.

He had brought this bag with him when he came to Dortmund.

Before heading to the training ground in the morning, he had already packed his passport and everything else together.

The dormitory was inside the club, but it was a bit of a distance away, whereas the training ground was right at the club's entrance.

Su Bai had known the outcome for a while, so he didn't plan to return to the dormitory.

Just like Uncle Li from the Football Association who contacted him, he had already bought his ticket to return home last night.

On the empty training ground, only Su Bai was left.

He took off his Dortmund jersey, and even his shorts.

Though he was leaving in disgrace, he didn't want to take anything from them.

He didn't even care to keep the jersey.

With his backpack on, Su Bai, wearing the shoes he brought from home, slowly left the luxurious Dortmund club.

The guard at the gate didn't even glance at him.

Su Bai took out the bread he had bought from his bag and took a big bite.

He ate it with mineral water, savoring every bite.

Perhaps without the system, he might have felt a bit down at this moment.

But ever since the system activated, he had no worries.

If Dortmund didn't want him, it was their loss.

Someday, he would make Dortmund regret it.

But!

He hadn't walked far when a strange old man blocked his path.

"Leaving already?"

The old man spoke in perfect English.

Su Bai looked up in confusion.

"What?"

He didn't know this old man, it was baffling.

Su Bai didn't want to pay him any attention, so he sidestepped the old man and continued eating his bread.

"By the way, are you interested in trying out for Schalke 04?"

Schalke 04?

Su Bai turned his head to take a closer look.

The old man wore worn-out clothes, but his hair was neatly combed.

His shoes were polished to a shine.

"What do you mean, old man?"

Seeing Su Bai finally show some interest, the old man smiled too.

"Going back home in disgrace?"

"What else? The ticket's already bought! If I'm late, I can't even go home!"

"What time's your flight?"

"Seven in the evening!"

The old man checked his watch.

It was ten fifty in the morning!

"There's still a long time until seven, why not try out for Schalke?"

Su Bai hesitated.

What he was most concerned about now was his task.

The reward was quite tempting.

He wondered if it would be another max-level attribute card, then he could max out his shooting ability.

"I don't know anyone, will they give me a chance?"

"Also, I have no money, don't expect any referral fee!"

"And don't think about taking my kidney, I know martial arts!"

Theft is never good, try looking at [ pawℝead.com ].

Su Bai wasn't stupid; there were many scammers who preyed on young people like this.

He didn't look as young as he seemed; in his previous life, he was a super keyboard warrior.

The old man was amused by Su Bai.

"Haha, don't worry, I won't charge you, and I don't want your kidney. Do I look like a scammer?"

"Not necessarily!"

The old man laughed and said!

"My car's over there, Schalke 04 is very close, their training might not be over yet, why not give it a try?"

Without waiting for Su Bai's response, he turned and walked toward his old car by the roadside.

Su Bai looked at the bread in his hand, wrapped it up, wiped his hands, and followed.

For the task reward, he was willing to take the risk!

If things went south, he'd just knock the old man out with two punches.

But as soon as he got in the car, Su Bai felt relieved.

There was a camera in the back, and the old man's journalist ID was tossed on the seat.

"You're a journalist?"

"Yeah! Sort of, an amateur journalist, amateur scout, you could say everything's amateur!"

The old man pointed to the glove compartment and had Su Bai open it.

Inside was a scout's license.

Su Bai was dumbfounded.

This old man was quite the player, poaching talent right under the nose of a city rival.

"Haha, sometimes having a journalist's identity is very useful for a scout!"

Looking at the smug old man, Su Bai was speechless.

The car, like the old man, moved slowly forward.

Su Bai looked out the window, bored.

Having grown accustomed to the smartphone era, Su Bai found it hard to adapt to 2010.

No TikTok to scroll, no live streams to watch; as a keyboard warrior, his only hobby was playing Pro Evolution Soccer.

But even then, it was the 2010 version, and used to high-definition graphics, Su Bai wasn't even interested in gaming.

"Have you always played as a forward?"

Seeing Su Bai a bit bored, the old man asked.

"Yeah! In Yan Country, on our school team, I was always a forward!"

Su Bai knew his skills weren't up to par; when he crossed over, he was already at Dortmund, and he didn't know why the original Su Bai had made it into the top ten in the selection.

In his memory, it seemed like this guy's rich dad had something to do with it.

"No wonder, you've never had formal football training!"

The old man had a look of sudden realization.

The old man's words made Su Bai sigh helplessly.

At eighteen, there wasn't much hope for basic skills.

But thinking about the system, Su Bai got excited again; it seemed there was some training mode or something, surely that could improve him.

Thinking of this, Su Bai sat up straight with excitement.

"Have you ever thought about changing positions? Playing midfield? An attacking midfielder maybe!"

The old man's words left Su Bai a bit frustrated.

"What's so fun about passing? I just love the feeling of scoring goals, passing to others so they can score, that's..."

Suddenly, Su Bai remembered his assist just now.

It seemed that after maxing out his passing attribute, his passing was different from others.

Everyone said that pass was a fluke, but he knew he could replicate it endlessly.

"Actually, I think you have more talent in midfield than in other positions!"

The old man had a keen eye.

Everyone said Su Bai's pass was a fluke, but that kind of pass, that angle and technique, try fluking that?

This guy wasn't lacking in skill!

He was just playing in the wrong position.

If he could make passes like that consistently, he'd be a real find!

Thinking of this, the old man excitedly pressed the gas pedal.

"Vroom vroom vroom!"

But it seemed his old car didn't like being treated so roughly, growling a few times without any acceleration.

In the end, the old man had no choice but to continue at his leisurely pace, slowly heading toward the Schalke 04 club building.

Schalke 04?

Su Bai leaned against the car window, staring blankly ahead.
