Chapter 3 – The Winning Method of the Fate Roulette

"Let go! I didn't mean it that way..." Li You was both shocked and angry, fearing a massive brawl would break out and he'd end up dead on the spot.

"Oh, you didn't mean it that way, you should've said so earlier. Almost misunderstood you." Bai Ye released his grip with a smile, sneaking a glance at the clock, 23:56.

Fuck! Only a minute had passed.

Bai Ye's actions made Li You's eyelids twitch uncontrollably. He looked at the black handprint on his floral shirt, feeling like crying without tears.

Who said he was back to normal? Isn't he still acting crazy? What kind of poisonous mushroom did this guy eat to have such a lasting effect?

"Uh... Xiao Bai." A cautious voice came from behind Bai Ye, it was Tan Jie.

"Are you sure you're completely back to normal? Otherwise..."

Bai Ye was just wondering how to stall for time when Tan Jie walked right into it.

He raised an eyebrow and snapped, "Otherwise, you do it! Otherwise, you do it!? I hate it when people chirp behind my back. If you don't trust me, do it yourself."

Tan Jie's face immediately stiffened. As the East District Commander, being publicly berated like this made him feel utterly humiliated, wishing he could just shoot Bai Ye.

But he held back. With the Aberrant Creature eyeing Graysoil Town from the outside, if no one could contain the Breath of Bones, the entire town would be doomed.

He suppressed his anger, constantly reminding himself not to stoop to the level of a madman.

"Hurry up and start, everyone is getting impatient, quickly contain the Forbidden Item," Wang She, the West District Commander, said coldly, gripping his gun.

Li You took a deep breath, calming his emotions as he watched Bai Ye across from him.

Is he truly mad or just pretending?

Forget it, it doesn't matter, because next... I'm going to dominate this gamble!

A confident glint flashed in his eyes, a confidence built from over a decade of mastering sleight of hand.

Nicknamed Magic Hand, he naturally had his unique skills. Not only could he feel the suits of playing cards, but he could also spin the revolver's cylinder to the position he wanted, meaning he could decide which shot the revolver would fire on.

Rock-paper-scissors was just basic; as long as he won the first move, he could load the bullet, spin the cylinder, and then control the gamble.

"I'm going to play scissors next," Li You said with piercing eyes.

He deliberately revealed his strategy, engaging Bai Ye in a psychological battle.

Bai Ye didn't care about any of this, his mind entirely focused on the time, just three minutes left!

Damn it, why are three minutes so long?

He could only play it awkwardly!

At this moment, Bai Ye suddenly sneered, "Do you know there's a surefire way to win at the Wheel of Fate?"

These words not only made Li You pause slightly, but also stunned the onlookers.

Not taking my psychological bait? Li You squinted slightly, forcing a laugh, "This kind of life-and-death game is all about luck, how could there be a surefire way?"

Bai Ye showed a look of disdain, as if dismissing the other's ignorance, "Just because you don't know doesn't mean it doesn't exist."

The young man's certainty was so firm that even Li You, a seasoned gambler, felt a bit skeptical, "What's the surefire way?"

Bai Ye's lips curled up, "The surefire way is to let the opponent fire the first shot."

Everyone was baffled by this, how could this be a surefire win? How is that possible, and then what?

"What kind of joke is this, and then what?" Li You questioned, suspecting Bai Ye was telling a cold joke.

"And then?" Bai Ye shrugged, "Then take the gun and give the opponent five shots."

Li You: "???"

The most feared thing is sudden silence.

On the plaza with over a hundred people, Bai Ye's words plunged the atmosphere into an icy chill.

It proved that cold jokes indeed have the power to freeze a scene.

"Pfft..." Someone couldn't help but laugh.

Others started cursing, "You damn..."

"What kind of bullshit surefire way is that? Why don't you just say to fire six shots directly at the opponent!?"

"Heh..." Li You sneered twice, "Your joke isn't funny at all, let's play rock-paper-scissors."

Seeing the hand extended by the opponent, Bai Ye remained silent, with only two minutes left.

Time ticked by, and Li You's raised hand grew sore, whispers arose around them.

"What is Bai Ye doing? Why hasn't he started yet?"

"Is he having another episode?"

"What episode? He's clearly scared! He probably got a rush of blood to the head, thinking he could become the master of the Forbidden Item, jumped on stage without thinking, and now that it's real, he's chickened out."

Tan Jie's face darkened, gripping his gun tightly. He tolerated Bai Ye because Bai Ye dared to attempt to tame the Forbidden Item, but now that Bai Ye wasn't acting, how could he continue to tolerate it?

"If you're scared, just get down, stop embarrassing yourself!" Li You withdrew his sore hand, speaking with a harsh tone.

The voices of doubt grew louder, yet the last two minutes seemed never-ending.

Amidst the rising accusations, Bai Ye suddenly laughed.

"I'm not scared, I just find it too boring."

"Boring?" Li You frowned, "A life-and-death game and you find it boring?"

"The Breath of Bones' cylinder can hold six bullets, and now there's only one, meaning a one-sixth chance of death. Isn't that boring? If we're going to play, let's make it bigger."

"What do you want to do?"

"Naturally, add more bullets." The young man's words sparked an uproar.

A one-sixth death rate was already daunting, they never expected Bai Ye to dare to add more bullets.

Li You's heart sank. He was indeed a seasoned gambler and had practiced the Wheel of Fate, but usually with just one bullet. Adding another bullet would drop his perfect win rate to 98%, which was too risky.

Seeing Li You hesitate, Bai Ye continued, "Do you know why you can't contain the Breath of Bones even after winning three rounds?"

"Why?"

"Because you lack guts!"

"You damn..." Li You instantly flared up, "Add! Add the bullets now!"

He picked up the Breath of Bones and loaded two gleaming bullets, glaring at Bai Ye.

"That's more like it. Only those with both courage and luck are qualified to contain the Breath of Bones, but..." Bai Ye suddenly changed his tone, his eyes burning, "It's still not enough."

"What!? Still not enough?" Gasps erupted from the crowd.

"Two bullets aren't enough, does Bai Ye want to play with three?"

"Hiss! Three bullets, a fifty percent death rate."

Li You was also shocked by Bai Ye's words. Three bullets meant his win rate was already below 80%, wasn't this akin to courting death?

Bai Ye glanced at the time from the corner of his eye, one minute left!

He was instantly reassured, but his face remained cold, "If you're scared, just get down, stop embarrassing yourself!"

Hearing such familiar words, Li You was enraged on the spot. As a seasoned gambler, could he be afraid of a young punk?

"Fine, I'll play with you."

The third bullet was pushed into the cylinder by him.

Unexpectedly, Bai Ye shook his head, "Not enough."

Li You was stunned, not enough!? Four bullets? Playing this big?

He dared not meet Bai Ye's aggressive gaze, causing his hand holding the gun to tremble slightly. The uproar around him only added to his frustration, he wanted to back down, but a hard object suddenly pressed against his back.

From behind came the cold voice of the West District Commander, Wang She, "You know the consequences if you don't get the Forbidden Item."

With Bai Ye in front and Wang She behind, Li You was completely cornered.

Humans are fascinating creatures; when there's no way out, a courage called "burning one's boats" emerges.

Li You gritted his teeth, quickly calming his emotions, and with steady hands, loaded the fourth bullet into the cylinder.
