Chapter 4 – Breakfast of Terror

Contradictory hints appeared again!

Rule 6 said to ignore others' cries for help, but the back of the note hinted that he would regret it for the rest of his life if he didn't help.

Based on his first experience in the ward, Gu Yi deduced that both pieces of information might be correct!

The front of the note was for what he needed to do in front of the medical staff and workers, while the back was for what he needed to do behind their backs.

Both rules were crucial and had to be followed; otherwise, he would trigger a death flag either way.

Gu Yi held his tray, stood by the price list, and did some quick mental math. In the end, he ordered a portion of salted duck, a side of pickled vegetables, and a steamed bun.

As expected, the Pig-Head Chef didn't give him any trouble.

Gu Yi carried his food and found a place to sit.

A few fellow patients were sitting near him.

They were all focused on eating, not daring to say a word.

"Sigh, what kind of illnesses do you all have..."

"Shh!"

The patient made a hushing gesture and continued eating.

Gu Yi quickly shut his mouth, an involuntary frown creasing his brow.

—What kind of hospital was this? Even a prison didn't have such strict rules.

Clang!

Gu Yi had just picked up his spoon when the patient next to him suddenly collapsed, his head slamming into his food tray. His pupils were dilated as he stared blankly at Gu Yi.

"What's wrong with you?"

Gu Yi asked subconsciously, but suddenly felt a sharp pain in his foot.

It was the patient across from him who had kicked him, reminding him not to waste his breath.

The Pig-Head Chef walked over to him and held up a sign that read, "No Loud Noises."

Gu Yi pursed his lips. He hadn't expected that just saying a single sentence could be classified as "loud noises."

The patient beside Gu Yi had dilated pupils, and his face was gradually turning pale. His mouth opened and closed, the shape clearly forming the words "help me."

Evidently, the Pig-Head Chef also had to abide by the cafeteria's rules. Even after seeing the patient's sudden illness, he made no move.

Gu Yi immediately closed his eyes and began the simulation.

(Simulation start.)

(You don't dare to help the patient directly, as this conflicts with the cafeteria's rules. Doing so would instantly trigger a death flag.)

(You look around and see a doctor sitting behind you, eating. They are wearing Beak Masks and haven't noticed that someone has fainted.)

(You ponder for a moment.)

(You can't speak, nor can you move around freely before finishing your meal. So, is it possible to attract the doctor's attention in another way?)

(You pick up your spoon and throw it at the doctor behind you.)

(The doctor's mask is made of ceramic. You threw the spoon too hard and actually cracked the mask, creating a loud noise.)

(The doctor discovers you and the fainted patient.)

(He walks over and carries the patient away.)

(Just as you're feeling relieved, the Pig-Head Chef walks over and holds up the 'No Noise' sign to you.)

(The Pig-Head Chef grabs you by the collar and drags you out. You are completely weak and unable to resist.)

(You are taken to a small, dark room.)

(There are no windows here. The space is narrow, with only enough room for one person to stand.)

(You bang on the door and call out, but no one answers.)

(You listen carefully for a moment and hear that the Pig-Head Chef has left.)

(You look up and see a ventilation duct above you. You're tall enough to reach the opening on your tiptoes.)

(The grate on the duct is sturdy. You take out your hidden fruit knife and slowly pry open the screws.)

(A full ten minutes pass before you finally pry open the grate above you.)

(You leap up into the ventilation duct.)

(The duct is filled with dust. You curl up and crawl through it.)

(You find a suitable spot and use your fruit knife to pry open another grate.)

(The grate opens, and you jump down from the duct.)

(This is the inpatient area. Next to you is a restroom.)

(At this time, most patients and doctors are in the cafeteria, so no one notices you.)

(Your hand is itchy. You lift your sleeve to look and see black fuzz growing on your wrist.)

(You start to panic.)

(You walk to the main hall and find a hospital map.)

(You memorize the location of the Emergency Room.)

(Avoiding the doctors' gazes, you successfully find the Emergency Room.)

(The Emergency Room is filled with clanging and banging sounds. You even hear the doctors using a chainsaw, and the patient inside is screaming in agony.)

(The black fuzz on your wrist begins to spread towards your elbow.)

(You search around and find a new note on the corridor's bulletin board.)

([Doctor's Emergency Manual])

(1. When you find a patient who is injured, unconscious, or having a seizure, regardless of what you are doing, you must immediately take them to the Emergency Room for treatment.)

(2. When performing emergency treatment, doctors must wear their Beak Masks at all times.)

(3. During emergency treatment, no one is allowed to enter the Emergency Room. If someone breaks into the ward during treatment, call the Security Department to send the intruder to Room 0.)

(4. If amputation fails to stop the patient's condition from worsening, send the patient directly to the Crematorium.)

(You tear off the [Emergency Manual] and, as expected, find two lines of bloody words behind it.)

("I'm not sick! I'm not sick! I'm not sick!")

("I'm human! I'm human! I'm human!")

When you're just trying to make great content at bit.ly/3iBfjkV.

(You are shocked.)

(What kind of disease requires amputation as treatment?)

(The door to the Emergency Room suddenly opens.)

(Two doctors in Beak Masks emerge, pushing a gurney. The unconscious patient lies on it, mumbling deliriously. All four of his limbs have been completely amputated.)

(You demand to know what the doctors are doing.)

(The doctors ignore you and push the gurney into the elevator.)

(You follow them into the elevator.)

(You: What happened to my friend?)

(Doctor: It's breakfast time. You should be in the cafeteria.)

(You: Where are you taking my friend?)

(Doctor: This is none of your business.)

(After that, no matter what you say, the doctors ignore you.)

(The elevator stops at Basement Level -1. When the doors open, the words "Crematorium" are visible outside.)

(The doctors push the patient into the Crematorium.)

(You try to stop them, but you're no match for the doctors.)

(You follow them and watch helplessly as the still-breathing man is pushed into the incinerator.)

(Agonized howls echo from the incinerator.)

(You are overwhelmed with guilt, your heart feeling as if it's being twisted by a knife.)

(You discover that your face has also become covered in fuzz.)

(You have become a monster.)

(You are no longer human.)

(You died.)

(Simulation end.)

"Hmph..."

Gu Yi clutched his chest and let out a muffled groan.

The moment he saw a living person being pushed into the incinerator, he felt as if his heart had been pierced.

This death was caused by the guilt of watching a companion be killed. The Unmentionable used its weird power to turn him into a monster, ultimately leading to game failure.

Gu Yi glanced at the patient beside him. His expression was still one of unbearable pain.

To save him is to die.

To not save him is also to die.

To try every means to save him, but fail, also means death.

Gu Yi felt a wave of despair. The rules of this Weird World were so damn difficult
