Chapter 5 – First Encounter with the Corpse

Three days later.

Due to some tasks that needed to be done, Qiusheng was also called to help.

Qiusheng, Xiao Yu, and Wencai followed Uncle Nine to their destination.

On the way, they happened to meet Master Ren, Ren Tingting, her cousin Ah Wei, other members of the Ren family, and a large group of young men.

Soon, the group arrived at Old Master Ren's grave.

"Uncle Nine, how is the feng shui of this land?"

Master Ren inquired of Uncle Nine, perhaps wanting to see Uncle Nine's skills.

Upon hearing this, Uncle Nine held a compass in one hand, surveying the surroundings and observing the terrain.

"Not bad, it's a feng shui treasure land, this is a 'Dragonfly Touches Water' formation. If the ancestors are buried properly, it can bring prosperity and wealth to the descendants."

Uncle Nine, with one hand holding the compass and the other behind his back, exuded the demeanor of a master as he commented on the feng shui of the place.

However, Uncle Nine sensed something amiss and thought it best not to mention it publicly until he was sure.

At this moment, Wencai interjected, "Master, what is a 'Dharma Burial'? Is it..."

"Yes, a 'Dharma Burial' is because the space usable by the 'Dragonfly Touches Water' formation is too limited, so the burial must be vertical."

Xiao Yu immediately responded, not wanting Wencai to undermine Uncle Nine's authority at this time.

"That's right, the feng shui master said the same thing back then. The ancestors were buried vertically, and the descendants would surely prosper."

Master Ren nodded secretly, thinking that if even the disciple was so knowledgeable, then Uncle Nine must truly have skills.

"Is it effective?"

Uncle Nine asked Master Ren, having already noticed some clues.

"Alas, I don't know why, but in the past twenty years, the business has been declining..."

Master Ren sighed, as the Ren family's business had indeed plummeted.

"Have you not felt any benefits in these twenty years, and things have gone contrary to your wishes?"

Uncle Nine continued to inquire, confirming his suspicions.

"Uncle Nine, could there be other reasons?"

At this moment, Master Ren's expression changed.

He also felt something was wrong, suspecting that the feng shui master had done something, which is why he insisted on moving the grave.

"Is the feng shui master from back then still aware of the situation?"

Uncle Nine had already sensed that there was an issue with the feng shui master.

"He disappeared long ago, and there's been no news of him for years.

However, this treasure land was bought at a high price by my late father from the feng shui master."

Master Ren was also puzzled by the disappearance of the feng shui master and suddenly thought of the origin of this feng shui treasure land.

"Is that really the case? Only tempted by profit, without coercion? I doubt it."

Uncle Nine sneered, his expression skeptical.

Master Ren, hearing this, awkwardly smiled, unsure of how to respond.

"The 'Dragonfly Touches Water' formation requires a snowflake cover, and the so-called snowflake is lime.

But here, cement was used, sealing it completely, blocking the earth's qi and feng shui, naturally causing the Ren family's fortune to decline.

The feng shui master was wronged back then and set up a means of revenge. Fortunately, he allowed you to move the grave twenty years later, only harming you for one or two decades, without intending to continue harming the Ren family."

Uncle Nine had roughly pieced together the story, realizing it was the feng shui master's hidden hand.

Master Ren, upon learning this, was angry but helpless, as the feng shui master had long disappeared.

The grave relocation continued.

When Qiusheng, Wencai, Xiao Yu, and others prepared the offering table and set up the dharma tools, Uncle Nine performed rituals and chanted spells.

"Break ground, start digging."

After the ritual ended, Uncle Nine instructed the young men to begin work.

The young men dug for a long time until they finally saw the coffin, which was then hoisted up and placed on flat ground.

At that moment, a flock of birds was startled from the forest, screeching and flying away in panic.

Suddenly, an ominous atmosphere permeated the scene.

Uncle Nine's expression changed, fearing that something had gone wrong with the coffin.

Uncle Nine performed another ritual and then prepared to open the coffin.

"Ren Gongwei Yong sees the light of day again, those aged twenty-two, thirty-five, thirty-six, forty-eight, born in the year of the rooster or ox, step back."

Under Uncle Nine's command, those whose ages or zodiac signs were incompatible retreated, keeping their distance from the coffin to avoid any conflict.

The young men who didn't need to retreat stepped forward to pry open the coffin, and immediately a black mist rose, accompanied by a foul stench.

When everyone looked into the coffin, the timid ones were horrified, their faces pale and sweating.

The corpse, after more than ten years, had not decayed, its face dark and ferocious, terrifyingly unsettling. It was a corpse transformation, and the crowd was visibly frightened.

"Father."

"Grandfather."

Master Ren and Ren Tingting knelt down, mourning, while also feeling fear and worry, as this situation was clearly abnormal.

After a while, Ren Fa approached Uncle Nine with a heavy expression.

"Uncle Nine, what should we do now?"

Master Ren urgently needed a solution to handle the matter properly.

"Master Ren, I suggest we..."

Uncle Nine immediately suggested burning it.

But when he saw Xiao Yu shaking his head at him, Uncle Nine remembered that burning the body was indeed the best way to solve supernatural issues for them.

However, it was different for Master Ren and the others who were ordinary people. Although Old Master Ren's corpse was strange, it hadn't truly become a Corpse.

Ordinary people didn't understand the true situation. If they burned it right after digging it up, it would greatly damage Master Ren's reputation if the news spread.

Moreover, Master Ren might not agree, and it could implicate himself. Uncle Nine thought of this and didn't finish his sentence.

Master Ren noticed Uncle Nine stopping mid-sentence because of Xiao Yu's gesture and frowned.

Uncle Nine couldn't think of a solution, so after some consideration, he decided to take the coffin back to the mortuary.

He planned to find a suitable place to suppress the corpse transformation with feng shui and slowly dissipate the corpse qi.

Uncle Nine explained his plan to Master Ren, who agreed to the arrangement.

Then, they arranged for the young men to carry the coffin back to the mortuary.

Uncle Nine instructed Wencai and Qiusheng to burn incense around the area to appease the spirits of nearby graves and use the incense formation to measure fortune and misfortune.

Xiao Yu followed Uncle Nine, overseeing the Ren family's servants as they carried the coffin back to the mortuary.

In the evening, Wencai and Qiusheng returned.

However, they were filled with urgency, running back and shouting loudly,

"Master, look, the incense burned like this."

Uncle Nine took a look and his expression immediately turned serious.

"People fear 'three long and two short,' and incense fears 'two short and one long.' This incense burned just like that, a sign of great misfortune."

"Master, do you mean there's danger here?"

Wencai showed a frightened expression.

"Of course, it's the Ren family. Could it be us here?"

Slap.

"If you don't understand, don't speak."

Uncle Nine, hearing this, immediately felt irritated, his anger rising, and he slapped Wencai on the head.

"As long as it's not us here, that's good."

"Ah, then isn't Tingting in danger?"

Wencai, having just breathed a sigh of relief, suddenly exclaimed in alarm.

"Tingting, Tingting, what is she to you?"

Qiusheng teased Wencai with a smile.

"Tingting is mine."

Wencai, lacking confidence, stubbornly insisted.

Qiusheng continued to tease, "I think Tingting likes Junior Brother more. Otherwise, why would they get along so well?"

Unable to argue, Wencai ignored Qiusheng and walked towards Old Master Ren's coffin. Opening the lid, he exclaimed, "It's swelling."

Uncle Nine, Xiao Yu, and Qiusheng hurried over to see. Not only was it swelling, but the nails had also grown significantly.

Uncle Nine's expression darkened, and he quickly closed the coffin lid, preparing materials to create special paint, then used a chalk line to mark the coffin.

Xiao Yu also helped, marking the bottom of the coffin that Wencai and Qiusheng had missed in the original plot.

He wanted to see if the Corpse would still break out of the coffin and whether the shadow of the feng shui master from back then was behind this.

***

The next day, Uncle Nine took Xiao Yu, Wencai, and Qiusheng to the Ren residence to discuss the follow-up issues with Master Ren.

Xiao Yu watched in the living room as Wencai and Qiusheng teased Ah Wei.

Ah Wei was very arrogant and unlikable. Earlier, when Xiao Yu chatted with Ren Tingting for a few words, Ah Wei even prepared to draw his gun as a threat.

Now, Xiao Yu chose to watch the show, and with him around, naturally, there was no scene of Ah Wei harassing Ren Tingting.

Not long after, Uncle Nine and Master Ren finished their discussion and came down from upstairs.

Uncle Nine saw Ah Wei taking off his shirt and twisting his body seductively, immediately knowing that Wencai and Qiusheng were messing with him.

He quickly walked outside, punched Wencai in the stomach, making him spit out the puppet talisman, scolded him a few times, and then dragged both of them away.

"Dear nephew, wait a moment."

Xiao Yu was about to leave when Master Ren stopped him.

"Master Ren, is there something else?"

Xiao Yu was curious about why Master Ren called him.

Master Ren dismissed Ah Wei and politely invited Xiao Yu to sit.

"Dear nephew, it's like this. Just now, during the conversation with Uncle Nine, he was always vague, and I felt uncertain.

I wonder if you could tell me if something has changed."

Master Ren thought that from yesterday's performance on the mountain, Uncle Nine's disciple also had skills and could see the problem.

"Well, it's hard to say."

Xiao Yu was a bit troubled. He really couldn't tell him that his father had already turned into a Corpse.

"Feel free to speak, dear nephew. Please help."

Master Ren, not understanding the situation, felt uncertain and humbly sought advice.

"Alright, the truth is, when we brought the coffin back to the mortuary yesterday, your father had already started transforming.

Now, it's being suppressed by my master. Until it's completely resolved, it's an unsafe hidden danger."

Seeing Master Ren's sincerity, Xiao Yu had no choice but to tell the truth.

"Moreover, this thing can sense its bloodline descendants and strengthen itself by consuming their blood.

So, I suggest Master Ren spread glutinous rice around the house and find a few big black dogs to guard it."

Xiao Yu explained the situation and offered several preventive measures.

"Has it really gotten this bad? Thank you for the reminder, dear nephew. I'll make arrangements."

Master Ren frowned deeply, his expression filled with worry.

At this moment, Xiao Yu pretended to be indecisive, attracting Master Ren's attention.

"Dear nephew, if you have something to say, feel free to speak."

Master Ren inquired.

Xiao Yu feigned deep thought for a moment, then took out two jade plaques and handed them to Master Ren.

"Master Ren, these are protective jade plaques, magical artifacts that can ward off attacks from ghosts and evil entities.

Please wear one each for yourself and Miss Ren, and never take them off."

"Oh, these are magical artifacts. Thank you, dear nephew. How much do these artifacts cost?"

Master Ren asked with some skepticism and uncertainty.

After all, Uncle Nine hadn't mentioned these protective jade plaques, and Master Ren thought Xiao Yu might be trying to deceive him.

"Money can be discussed later. As long as everyone is unharmed, that's what matters. I hope this matter is resolved soon."

Xiao Yu put on a righteous and compassionate facade.

He had been researching magical artifacts, consuming a lot of materials, and was now financially strained. He had plans to sell the protective jade plaques, and Master Ren was his first choice as a customer.

Master Ren, however, was skeptical as he examined the jade plaques in his hand.

Xiao Yu didn't care and bid farewell to Master Ren, returning to the mortuary.

After Xiao Yu left.

Ren Fa immediately arranged for his servants to prepare glutinous rice and spread it around the Ren residence.

He also instructed his servants to find a few big black dogs to guard the house.

Then he gave one of the jade plaques to his daughter, Tingting, to wear, while he wore the other. Whether it worked or not, wearing it provided some sense of security, a psychological comfort.

At the mortuary, Uncle Nine also arranged for Xiao Yu, Qiusheng, and Wencai to be responsible for watching over the unstable Corpse.

Uncle Nine went out during the day to search for a suitable burial site.

Time passed, and for two consecutive days, nothing happened. Those responsible for guarding, Wencai, Qiusheng, and Xiao Yu, relaxed.

Until the third day.

Just at dawn, someone came to the mortuary to call at the door. It was a servant from the Ren family, saying that there had been a Corpse incident at the Ren residence last night.

Upon hearing this, Uncle Nine hurried to the mortuary.

Xiao Yu followed closely, and upon entering, he saw that the coffin was in pieces, and the Corpse was nowhere to be found.

Seeing Wencai lying motionless on the bed, Xiao Yu quickly checked his condition.

Fortunately, he was fine; Wencai was just sleeping like a dead pig.

Uncle Nine, seeing this, became furious and shouted loudly, "Xiao Yu, wake him up."

"Senior Brother, Senior Brother."

Xiao Yu called a few times, but seeing no response, he had no choice but to slap Wencai's face a few times, finally waking him up.

Uncle Nine gave Wencai a severe scolding before taking Wencai and Xiao Yu to the Ren residence to check the situation.

Arriving in town, they also called Qiusheng.

Uncle Nine and the others hurriedly made their way to the Ren residence.

"Uncle Nine, you're finally here."

Master Ren, seeing Uncle Nine, hurriedly came to greet him.

Uncle Nine observed the surroundings, noticing the burnt black footprints on the ground where glutinous rice had been spread, the lingering smell of kerosene in the air, and the burn marks on the ground.

Several big black dogs had died, and the others were mostly injured, indicating a fierce battle.

"Master Ren, is anyone injured or anything else unexpected?"

Uncle Nine quickly inquired about the situation.

"Three servants were scratched."

Master Ren answered truthfully.

Then Master Ren recounted the events of last night. He was in the study organizing accounts when suddenly there was a fierce barking of dogs, growing more intense. Ren Fa went out to investigate.

Suddenly, a shadow lunged at him. Ren Fa saw it was his father, with a ferocious face, and was so frightened that his legs went weak.

Fortunately, the protective jade plaque formed a protective barrier, and Master Ren was knocked away.

Realizing he was unharmed, Master Ren quickly called for his servants, and together they used glutinous rice and kerosene to successfully drive the Corpse away.

Uncle Nine, hearing about the protective jade plaque, remembered the magical artifact and wondered how he had forgotten about it.

He checked the jade plaque worn by Ren Fa, noting that much of its spiritual power had been consumed. It could withstand one more attack like this.

Afterward, Uncle Nine led Wencai, Qiusheng, and Xiao Yu to cleanse the injured of corpse poison and clear the remaining yin evil qi from the Ren residence.

Once everything was handled, Uncle Nine, Ren Fa, and others gathered to discuss how to deal with the situation.

Uncle Nine was at a loss, and Master Ren became worried.

"I have so many guns, what is there to fear?

Uncle, rest assured. Cousin, I will protect you without leaving your side."

Ah Wei, arrogant in attitude, then leered at Ren Tingting.

"Firearms are useless against Corpse."

Uncle Nine retorted, kindly reminding them to prevent the security team from being reckless and causing significant casualties.

"You say it's useless, so it is?"

Ah Wei, with a haughty demeanor, retorted.

"Alright, Ah Wei, listen to Uncle Nine."

Ren Fa called Ah Wei back.

"Then what should we do now?"

Ah Wei, not daring to be rude to Ren Fa, continued discussing solutions.

"It won't come out during the day. You can take people to search dark places, but don't be reckless. Be sure to notify me in time."

Uncle Nine offered his suggestion.

"Alright, Ah Wei, take the security team and search now."

Ren Fa immediately instructed Ah Wei to take action.

Ah Wei, seeing his uncle's expression, dared not argue and reluctantly left.

"Master Ren, given the current situation, there's no need to worry during the day. At night, I'll come to guard, waiting for the Corpse to show up."

Uncle Nine had no other choice but to wait for an opportunity.

"Alright, thank you, Uncle Nine."

Hearing that Uncle Nine would come at night, Master Ren felt much more at ease.

Uncle Nine also discussed with Ren Fa about notifying the town, advising residents not to go out after dark and to secure their doors and windows to prevent harm from the Corpse.
