Chapter 7 – The Striving Son of the City Lord

Another year passed.

Su Chen successfully fused with a Spirit Mark, stepping into the Spirit Mark Realm.

This Spirit Mark was pieced together from a third-rank Gale Demon Wolf. It was a Beast Mark of Azure quality, but Su Chen was in no position to be picky.

In this world, Spirit Marks were divided into White, Azure, Blue, Purple, Orange, and Red.

A high-quality Spirit Mark represented one's combat power, as it would grant its owner an amplification.

The amplification from the Gale Demon Wolf was speed.

Azure particles swirled around Su Chen's feet, spiraling upwards from the ground.

"So this is the power of the Spirit Mark Realm?"

In his past life, Su Chen had never broken through to the Spirit Mark Realm. He had no cultivation method, no Spirit Mark.

In this life, at the mere age of twenty-three, Su Chen had broken through to the Spirit Mark Realm!

"The Xu Family..."

Su Chen's expression was cold. He still harbored a deep hatred for the Xu Family. It was a grudge from his past life, for the annihilation of his clan. If even one person from the Xu Family escaped, Su Chen would never be at peace.

"Wait... If I act rashly at the first level of the Spirit Mark Realm and get held up by one of the Xu Family's old geezers, I'm afraid many of them will escape."

What Su Chen wanted was to leave no one from the Xu Family alive—not even their chickens or dogs!

He did not act immediately. He had endured for so many years; what was another year or two?

After breaking through to the Spirit Mark Realm, Su Chen returned to the Lingyun Martial Academy, causing quite a stir.

He also received a large amount of cultivation resources.

This was Su Chen's goal. With these resources, reaching the second level of the Spirit Mark Realm within a year was no longer just a dream.

And so, Su Chen once again entered secluded cultivation.

...

Two years later.

The old master of the Xu Family was celebrating his one hundred and fortieth birthday.

All the various branches of the Xu Family returned to the main household to celebrate the old master's birthday.

For a time, the entire Xu Family estate was decorated with lanterns and colorful banners.

But...

No one noticed a figure in a dark corner of the night. Wearing a demonic mask and shrouded in a black cloak, he stared sinisterly in the direction of the Xu Family estate.

This was Su Chen, his secluded cultivation at the Lingyun Martial Academy finally complete.

He could finally settle the old score with the Xu Family!

He would use this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to wipe them out in one fell swoop!

Su Chen moved swiftly. With every step, a stream of azure energy would appear, and his figure would flicker as if teleporting, reappearing in the next spot.

Behind him, faint tremors could be heard as fully prepared warriors followed Su Chen into the Xu Family estate.

Leading them was a portly old man with squinting eyes, graying hair, and a hunched back.

The Xu Family Courtyard.

Su Chen unleashed the power of the Spirit Mark Realm, slaughtering his way inside.

Many members of the Xu Family fell at his hands, which finally alerted the rest of the clan, who hastily gathered a large number of warriors.

"Who are you, sir? Why do you attack our Xu Family?"

The one who spoke was a middle-aged man from the Xu Family.

Though his appearance had changed, Su Chen still recognized him. His name was Xu Changyuan, the youngest son of Xu Ba.

He had even met him once in his past life.

Su Chen's steps were light and unhurried. He vanished from his spot, and by the time the Xu Family's warriors could react, he had already appeared before Xu Changyuan.

Terror filled Xu Changyuan's eyes. He gulped, trying to say something, but a sword sliced clean through his neck, severing his head.

Su Chen stood with his sword in one hand and Xu Changyuan's head in the other.

The direct descendants of the Xu Family around him were grief-stricken, ordering the warriors loyal to them to fight Su Chen to the death.

Su Chen casually cut down a few who weren't afraid of death, which sent the rest stumbling back in fear.

He didn't continue his assault; attacking these people was a complete waste of his Origin energy.

He could leave these people to the Su Family.

That's right! Su Chen had found the Su Family from his past life and its patriarch—his own younger brother from that life, Su Xuehe.

After Su Chen's death in his previous life, Su Xuehe had secretly found the descendants of Su Chen and a few of his old friends, hiding them away. That was why the Xu Family had been unable to track them down for so many years.

Su Xuehe also harbored hatred for the Xu Family.

Su Xuehe had taken Su Chen's position in the Su Family, but that was for the sake of his martial cultivation.

The path of martial arts was one of contention.

But... Su Chen was his own brother, his only remaining family after their parents and aunt had died!

How could he not hate the Xu Family for killing him, for annihilating their clan?

The moment Su Chen discovered that his own descendants had been taken in by Su Xuehe, his heart was filled with a mix of complex emotions.

But Su Chen was gratified. Su Xuehe was a more suitable patriarch than he had ever been.

Therefore, Su Chen had concealed his identity and sought out Su Xuehe to cooperate in annihilating the Xu Family.

Su Chen's goal was a certain opportunity within the Xu Family; all their other possessions could be left to Su Xuehe.

It could also be considered compensation for the family of his past life.

When Su Chen revealed his cultivation at the third level of the Spirit Mark Realm, Su Xuehe decisively chose to cooperate.

Because when Su Chen displayed his power, the Su Family was left with only one choice.

The Su Family's foundation was merely a single, near-death, first-level Spirit Mark Realm old fossil. They were in desperate need of a new Spirit Mark Realm expert to secure their position.

No matter how one looked at it, cooperating with Su Chen was the best option.

Thus, as Su Chen advanced toward the Xu Family's inner courtyard.

Su Xuehe led a large contingent of Su Family members charging in. Without a word, they began a massacre.

New grudges and old hatreds—only the annihilation of a clan could settle this debt.

Su Chen slaughtered his way to the Xu Family's inner courtyard. By now, everyone in the Xu Family sensed that something was terribly wrong, and chaos erupted.

Along the way, Su Chen killed several more descendants of the Xu Family's main line. If he saw even a slight resemblance in their features, he would kill them, taking their heads. When he could no longer carry the heads in his hands, he hung them from his waist, like an Asura emerging from the depths of hell.

Suddenly, Su Chen stopped. He spotted a familiar figure mixed in with the crowd, trying to sneak away.

"So it was you!"

A monstrous hatred erupted in Su Chen's eyes.

The man seemed to notice Su Chen looking at him. He snapped his head up, and upon meeting that gaze filled with furious rage, he trembled violently.

Countless Xu disciples were easily slaughtered by Su Chen, his sword techniques utterly brutal, sending flesh and blood flying.

Those sword techniques... Lin Yifei was very familiar with them.

In this world, only one person could use that sword style with such divine mastery.

He didn't even notice when the Xu disciples and Elders around him were killed, not until he found himself standing alone.

Not until that figure, who looked like a demon crawled out of hell, fixed its gaze upon him.

Lin Yifei could no longer bear the terror in his heart and fell to his knees.

Cold sweat dripped down his aged face.

The resemblance... it's too strong...

Lin Yifei kept his head bowed, not daring to look up. His throat bobbed as he forced out a trembling voice.

"Who... Who in the world are you?"

Lin Yifei was certain that the person from his memories, the one he feared so much, was already dead beyond a doubt!

Su Chen's eyes were glacial. "Just a demon, here to collect a debt for an old friend."

A flash of sword light.

Lin Yifei was dead. His head fell to the ground, rolled over once, and his disbelieving eyes stared up at Su Chen.

Su Chen didn't ask Lin Yifei why he had betrayed him.

There was no longer any need.

The price of betrayal... was death, and that included his descendants.

Su Xuehe would take care of that for him.

Now...

A grief-stricken wail echoed from the inner courtyard.

And Su Chen saw a familiar person.
