Chapter 10 – Match Task Issued! Prepare to Take the Field

In the world of football, there's a list of players known for their "joyful" performances. It's not about who scores the most goals or provides the most assists, but rather who misses the most chances. Sterling is undoubtedly at the top of this list.

Whether at Liverpool or Manchester City, there are many skilled passers, but even when they serve the ball on a platter, Sterling often fails to convert. It's as if scoring is cursed for him.

The so-called joy is something his coach can't seem to find, no matter what. However, aside from his finishing, Sterling's dribbling skills are excellent, with great speed, explosive power, and outstanding positioning, often creating threatening opportunities!

At only 16 years old, he's already dominating the U18 league!

The match between the two teams officially begins.

Just two minutes into the game, an overly excited Januzaj tackles an opponent to the ground, earning a yellow card. This almost ignited tempers on both sides, but the referee quickly intervened to separate them.

Despite their young age, these players are deeply influenced by the rivalry culture, and it feels wrong not to fight when they meet.

Solskjaer is already shouting from the sidelines.

At 11 minutes and 24 seconds into the game, Sterling dribbles down the left side, shakes off Jack Rudge, and takes a curling shot. The ball hits the post with a "duang" sound!

The Manchester United fans gasp in shock!

"The post has been hit, can a goal be far behind?" Carragher says proudly, "I must say, Sterling's change of direction was truly beautiful!"

Scholes remains silent...

He can only cheer and shout for the Manchester United youngsters when they perform well.

At 14 minutes and 28 seconds, Manchester United finally gets a chance to counterattack.

Midfielder Dahli finds forward Byrne.

Byrne remembers how Ye Chen took a falling leaf shot from this position yesterday and decides to try it himself...

Seeing Byrne's shot go way over the bar, Scholes can't help but exclaim, "My God, what kind of shot was that? Ole (Solskjaer) should have him practice shooting more!"

"Paul, is this the level of Manchester United's youth strikers? They look more like U8s than U18s!" Carragher seizes the opportunity to mock.

"Why are you in such a hurry? I called Ole last night, and he said we have a very talented forward!"

"Oh? Really? It wouldn't be that little white-haired guy, would it?" Carragher raises an eyebrow.

"Of course not, Ole said he's from China!"

"China? Are you sure you're not talking about their porcelain and tea? Do they even play football?" Carragher says incredulously.

Scholes glances at the roster, "He's on the list, named chenye..."

"Paul, stop fooling yourself. If he's really that good, why isn't he starting?" Carragher retorts.

Scholes is momentarily speechless.

However, as they speak, the situation on the field changes dramatically!

Liverpool's midfielder Emilison sends a long pass to the left side for Sterling.

Seeing the incoming ball, Sterling deftly controls it with a flick of his toe!

This skillful control alone draws cheers from the audience...

Manchester United U18's right-back Massacci doesn't admire the show but immediately charges forward. Yet, facing Massacci, Sterling shows no fear, dribbling forward. Just as they are about to collide, Sterling effortlessly changes direction, leaving his opponent behind.

Massacci is like a wooden post, completely ineffective in intercepting.

After passing Massacci, center-back Wigginson comes up to challenge, but before he can intercept, Sterling strikes the ball with power!

The ball curves beautifully towards the far post's corner.

Goalkeeper Liam dives to save, but his fingertips can't reach the ball.

"Swish!"

The crisp sound of the net signals a goal, and an ecstatic Sterling rushes towards the Liverpool fan section, cheering loudly!

"Who else!"

Manchester United trails Liverpool 0-1 at home!

The stadium turns into a paradise for Liverpool fans, who cheer wildly.

Carragher shouts loudly, "Gooooooooooooooooooooooal! Sterling's beautiful long shot, and Liam had no chance!"

Scholes adds, "The dribble and shot were seamless; Sterling's skill is indeed a cut above the U18 players!"

Solskjaer frowns, "Adnan, go and mark Sterling closely!"

Januzaj nods, "Got it, boss!"

And indeed, perhaps due to special training with Ye Chen, Januzaj's close marking proves effective.

Since Januzaj already received a yellow card two minutes in, he doesn't tackle but instead blocks Sterling's path inside. If Sterling goes outside, Massacci covers.

Under the two-man pressure, Sterling struggles.

Seeing that he's successfully marking Sterling, Januzaj smiles, occasionally glancing towards the bench.

After all, the defensive stop-and-go techniques were all honed with Ye Chen!

The first half quickly passes, ending with Manchester United trailing by one goal as they head into halftime.

"Boss, will I have a chance to play in the second half?" Ye Chen approaches Solskjaer, asking eagerly.

Solskjaer looks at Ye Chen, about to speak but stops.

This scene is all too familiar.

Over twenty years ago, he asked his coach the same question...

"Go warm up!" Solskjaer points to the field, telling Ye Chen.

"Okay!" Ye Chen doesn't enter the locker room but immediately runs onto the Old Trafford pitch.

This match is being broadcast live!

Since U18 matches don't have much advertising value, the cameras continue to show the field.

After running two laps along the sideline, Ye Chen practices a few shooting moves with the ball.

Of course, he's not the only one warming up; Kyliano and Tom are with him.

Clearly, Solskjaer is dissatisfied with the team's first-half attack.

So, the players warming up are all attackers, likely to be substituted at the start of the second half.

Meanwhile, the Liverpool players are chatting and laughing, as if the match is already in the bag...

"Ding, match task issued: score a goal or provide an assist in the upcoming match!"

"Task success rewards a Bronze Chest, task failure deducts five random points!"

Upon hearing the system prompt, Ye Chen knows his chance to play has arrived...

Of course, he has no idea how much determination Solskjaer had to muster to make this decision!
