Chapter 22 – Where is Chen Xun?

Yu Zheng and his companions were breathing heavily, feeling an unprecedented pressure. They made up their minds that once they found their footing, the first thing they needed to do was to train diligently, striving to leave the Mid-Mountain as soon as possible. Only then would they have a chance to leave the Servants' Peak and become Outer Sect Disciples.

Xu Yang seemed to understand the thoughts of the four young ones, but he said nothing more, just gave a helpless smile.

Xu Yang himself had struggled for many years on the Servants' Peak before being promoted to an Outer Sect Disciple. He knew very well that the more beautiful the imagination, the harsher the reality.

Servant Disciples were all pseudo-spirit roots. Without resources, their potential was very limited. Especially on the resource-poor Servants' Peak, breaking through to the mid-stage of Qi Refining was as difficult as ascending to the heavens!

Moreover, as Servant Disciples, they had daily chores to do, and honestly, there wasn't much time left for cultivation.

The lack of resources and cultivation time were the sharp swords of reality that shattered the beautiful dreams of Servant Disciples.

If one truly had the determination to leave the Servants' Peak, they would have to endure hardship, a lot of hardship, to have a chance.

"You all follow Senior Brother inside to register."

Before long, Xu Yang brought Chen Xun to a pavilion and said.

"Yes."

Yu Zheng and the others quickly followed Xu Yang into the pavilion.

Since Chen Xun was trailing behind, Xu Yang and the others didn't notice him. They didn't realize that Chen Xun hadn't followed them into the pavilion but instead wandered off to other areas.

"Hehe, Steward Qian, here are four new disciples. Please help register them."

As soon as he entered the pavilion, Xu Yang smiled at the fat man snoring on a chair.

Qian Laifu smacked his lips, opened his eyes, and upon seeing Xu Yang, smiled, "Oh, Xu Yang, how long has it been since you last came to the Servants' Peak?"

Qian Laifu had been a steward at the Mid-Mountain of the Servants' Peak for many years, and he had watched Xu Yang rise to become an Outer Sect Disciple under his supervision.

Xu Yang laughed, "I've been busy with cultivation. Only recently did I go out with Steward Shen He to recruit disciples. I hardly have time to come to the Servants' Peak."

Qian Laifu nodded with a smile, stood up, took a brush and a book from a nearby table, glanced at Yu Zheng and the others, and said, "Name, age, spirit root, home address, report them all."

Soon, Qian Laifu finished registering, tossed the brush and book onto the table, then turned around and instructed inside. Shortly after, a disciple came out with four sets of earth-yellow Servant Disciple uniforms and other items, placing them in front of Yu Zheng and the others.

"Here, these are your disciple uniforms, bedding, some daily necessities, a doorplate for your residence, sect rules, and a record of sect matters to note, as well as the first volume of the upper half of the Dao Heaven Technique. Remember, the technique must not be passed on. If discovered, you will be dealt with according to sect rules."

Qian Laifu said flatly.

"Yes!"

Yu Zheng and the others were overjoyed, quickly stepping forward to take them, their excited eyes never leaving the scroll of the Dao Heaven Technique.

Qian Laifu nodded and instructed a disciple behind him, "Take them to their residence."

"Yes." The Servant Disciple responded, then led Yu Zheng and the others out of the pavilion, "Follow me."

Yu Zheng and the others followed, looking back at Xu Yang every few steps, calling out, "Goodbye, Senior Brother Xu."

Xu Yang stood expressionless, not responding.

Because his task was complete once he brought these four youths here.

If they met again in the future, Yu Zheng and the others would have to respectfully call him Senior Brother Xu.

After all, they were just four Servant Disciples, and Xu Yang wouldn't have much interaction with them. That was reality.

Yu Zheng and the others seemed to realize something, fell silent, and left with the Servant Disciple in low spirits.

Only then did Qian Laifu look at Xu Yang, gesturing to a chair beside him with a smile, "You, it's rare for you to come by. Won't you sit and chat with this steward?"

Xu Yang, now an Outer Sect Disciple, was on equal footing with him, a steward of the Servants' Peak.

"Steward Qian, the matter isn't over yet. There's still one more... huh? Where's Chen Xun?"

Xu Yang smiled, turned his head to see the empty space behind him, and froze.

Qian Laifu looked puzzled, "What Chen Xun? Didn't you bring only four disciples?"

Xu Yang came to his senses, scratched his head, and laughed helplessly, "You don't know, there's also a mortal, whose mind is a bit off. He probably didn't follow us into the pavilion. Steward Shen He instructed to find him a sweeping job on the Servants' Peak, just provide him with a place to stay and enough food."

What?

A... a mortal?

Qian Laifu was dumbfounded, instinctively digging his ears, thinking he had misheard.

But upon hearing it was Steward Shen He's order, his expression turned more serious.

It seemed this was a relative of Steward Shen He from the mortal world...

Although both were stewards, their status and position were worlds apart.

Qian Laifu was merely a steward of the Servants' Peak, while Shen He was an Inner Sect Steward!

Seeing Qian Laifu's expression, Xu Yang chuckled, then cleared his throat and said solemnly, "This time, when I went to the mortal world with Steward Shen He, we brought back a senior brother with a Heavenly Gold Spirit Root. At this moment, Steward Shen He has already taken Senior Brother Zhao Ting to the Inner Pavilion. Soon, our Dao Heaven Sect will have a new addition to the fourteen Purple-Robed Disciples."

What?!

Qian Laifu's pupils contracted sharply, his face full of disbelief!

"Heavenly... Heavenly Spirit Root?!"

"Yes, absolutely true. In a few days, there should be a Promotion Ceremony for the Purple-Robed Disciple, and you'll see then." Xu Yang said, "Alright, I'd better go find Chen Xun first."

Qian Laifu snapped back to reality and quickly said, "Wait, from what you said, could it be that mortal is related to Senior Brother Zhao Ting?"

Xu Yang nodded, "Yes, Chen Xun is a friend of Senior Brother Zhao Ting from the mortal world. He suddenly went mad, and Senior Brother Zhao Ting couldn't bear it, so he brought him back to the sect."

With that, Xu Yang turned and left the pavilion.

Qian Laifu sat back in his chair, his eyes filled with shock.

This was incredible!

...

Meanwhile, Chen Xun wandered into the Martial Arena.

The Martial Arena was spacious and relatively quiet, with many Servant Disciples sitting cross-legged, cultivating after finishing their chores.

Of course, there were also many walking around, chatting softly.

When some Servant Disciples noticed Chen Xun, they looked at him with puzzled eyes.

Because from Chen Xun's attire, it was clear he wasn't a disciple of the Servants' Peak!

Moreover, the attire of Outer Sect and Inner Sect Disciples wasn't blue either.

Chen Xun wandered to the center of the Martial Arena, and by now, many curious eyes were on him, all guessing who he was.

Suddenly, Chen Xun shouted, did a somersault on the spot, then with a "Yahoo," spread his arms, and happily ran around the Martial Arena.

The Servant Disciples: "..."

The disciples were dumbfounded by Chen Xun's inexplicable and sudden actions, their faces full of confusion.

The Martial Arena was usually a quiet and solemn place, so most disciples chose to cultivate there. But the commotion Chen Xun caused startled many disciples who were cultivating, causing them to grunt and almost suffer a backlash. Fortunately, their cultivation level was low, so nothing serious happened.

But this did ignite the anger of many disciples. Forced out of their cultivation state, they opened their eyes, ready to find the person who caused the loud noise and settle accounts.

Those who exited their cultivation state were momentarily stunned when they saw the young man happily running in circles. Then, after cautiously checking his attire, they relaxed, quickly surrounding him with unfriendly eyes.
