Chapter 12 – Is This the Treatment for Dual Spiritual Roots?

Among these twenty or so people, all had Triple Spiritual Roots or Quadruple Spiritual Roots.

The much-coveted single or Dual Spiritual Roots were nowhere to be seen.

Bai Chen stroked his chin.

Who would have thought that the Quintuple Spiritual Roots, deemed worthless across the continent, wouldn't make an appearance at all?

Doesn't that make him a one-in-a-million genius?

The line moved steadily forward, and it was finally almost Chen Jinbao's turn.

He shivered as he glanced back at Bai Chen, and even without speaking, Bai Chen understood what he wanted to say.

'Brother Bai, I'm scared!'

Bai Chen gave Chen Jinbao a slight nod, gently patted his arm, and reassured him in a low voice.

"Don't worry, you'll be fine."

After testing thousands of people without a single Dual Spiritual Root, wouldn't Chen Jinbao's Metal-Earth Dual Spiritual Roots cause a sensation?

He was a sure bet for the Inner Sect Disciple.

Chen Jinbao forced a smile that looked more like a grimace, his chubby face wrinkling up.

In his view, out of thousands of people, less than thirty had Spiritual Roots. What did that make him?

He was probably doomed to have no Spiritual Roots.

But even at this point, Bai Chen was still comforting him, saying he would definitely succeed. Oh, Brother Bai is just too kind.

"No Spiritual Roots, move along quickly, next!"

Finally, it was Chen Jinbao's turn to test his Spiritual Roots.

He took a deep breath, licked his lips, and trembled as he stepped forward.

Bai Chen took the opportunity to look at the Spirit-Guiding Mirror.

It was entirely white, like a sculpture made of mutton-fat jade.

The surface was covered with intricate spiritual patterns, and in the center was embedded a pigeon-egg-sized blue crystal, which trembled slightly, emitting a faint wave of Spiritual Qi.

Was it this crystal that emitted those lights just now?

Chen Jinbao stood before the Spirit-Guiding Mirror, his arm shaking as he reached out to it.

Grandparents, ancestors, please bless your grandson...

With his eyes closed and a determined heart, Chen Jinbao pressed his sweaty, chubby hand firmly onto the Spirit-Guiding Mirror.

At first, the jade plaque remained silent, and his heart sank.

It's over, truly no Spiritual Roots.

Just as he was about to lose hope, the white jade surface suddenly lit up.

Two distinctly different halos burst from the blue crystal.

Golden like molten glass, intense and condensed. Earth-colored like solid jade, warm and stable.

The two colors intertwined and interwove, shining several times brighter than all the Triple and Quadruple Spiritual Roots before, even tinting the surrounding air with a faint gold and earth-colored glow.

The Hexu Sect disciple standing nearby widened his eyes and loudly reported, "Metal-Earth Dual Spiritual Roots!"

Everyone in the square turned their gaze in unison.

The boys and girls in line looked at Chen Jinbao with disbelief.

Up to now, nearly three thousand people had completed the test.

Not to mention Dual Spiritual Roots, even the slightly brighter Triple Spiritual Roots were few and far between; this was the first Dual Spiritual Root.

So envious!

Chen Jinbao stared in shock at the Spirit-Guiding Mirror still emitting the gold and earth-colored light, then suddenly turned to look at Bai Chen.

He actually had Dual Spiritual Roots!

Bai Chen said he would succeed, and he really did?!

Bai Chen smiled and nodded slightly at him.

Inside the Spirit-Guiding Hall, Mo Henian was leisurely sipping spiritual tea while reclining in a chair.

Wen Ruoheng, on the other hand, was meditating with her eyes closed, as if already in a trance.

The two were here to preside over the Disciple Recruitment Ceremony as a mere formality.

Talented seedlings had long been brought into the sect, and the chances of finding good seedlings among these mortals from all over were too low.

They hadn't found any good seedlings with Triple Spiritual Roots or above from the Disciple Recruitment Ceremony for years.

When the Spirit-Guiding Mirror outside burst with the light of Dual Spiritual Roots, Mo Henian's hand holding the teacup paused abruptly, nearly spilling the tea.

His previously gentle gaze turned sharp in an instant. "Dual Spiritual Roots?"

Among tens of thousands, there was actually a Dual Spiritual Root?

Wen Ruoheng's eyes also snapped open, and without saying a word, she was the first to dart outside.

Mo Henian came to his senses, and his figure moved like a stream of light, rushing out of the Spirit-Guiding Hall.

Two figures arrived one after the other, appearing directly in front of Chen Jinbao.

Mo Henian smoothed his flying robe, his gaze falling on the gold and earth intertwined light of the Spirit-Guiding Mirror, his hand stroking his beard with satisfaction.

Wen Ruoheng stood with her hands behind her back, her cold eyes falling on Chen Jinbao. Though her expression remained unchanged, her gaze was softer than before.

The surrounding disciples had long fallen silent, the square so quiet that a pin drop could be heard.

Chen Jinbao shivered in fright, quickly withdrawing his hand from the Spirit-Guiding Mirror, and stiffly bowed. "Elder Mo, Elder Wen..."

Mo Henian's voice carried a hint of laughter, his tone amiable as he raised his hand slightly.

"Good lad, Metal-Earth Dual Spiritual Roots, you're a natural for artifact refining!"

As soon as he finished speaking, Wen Ruoheng cast a cold glance at him.

"Metal Spiritual Roots are sharp, capable of tempering sword bones; Earth Spiritual Roots are heavy, able to stabilize the foundation, making them an excellent choice for the sword path as well."

Her voice was as clear and sharp as her demeanor.

But anyone familiar with her could tell that this sword peak's Peak Lord, who always held her head high, was satisfied with the chubby boy before her.

Mo Henian was immediately displeased, turning to glare at her.

"What sword path? Metal for refining, Earth for supporting the furnace, this child is naturally suited for artifact refining, join my Xuan Ding Peak, and I will personally mentor him—"

"Artifact refining takes time, unlike sword cultivation which is quicker."

Before Mo Henian could finish, Wen Ruoheng interrupted him calmly, not yielding an inch.

The two actually started arguing in front of the entire square.

In the end, it was Mo Henian who first suppressed his temper and waved his hand at Wen Ruoheng. "Why am I arguing with you? We should see what the boy wants to learn."

Saying this, he turned to look at the stunned Chen Jinbao.

His face broke into a kindly smile, stroking his white beard as he said, "Boy, with your Metal-Earth Dual Spiritual Roots, you're a natural talent for artifact refining.

"Join my Xuan Ding Peak, and once you've laid the foundation with Qi Induction, as long as you pass the assessment, I will personally take you as a disciple and impart the artifact refining secrets of Xuan Ding Peak to you."

As soon as he finished speaking, Wen Ruoheng also said, "Lingxiao Sword Peak offers the same. After Qi Induction and body refinement, if you pass my assessment, I will personally teach you the way of the sword."

This statement caused another uproar in the square.

Both Peak Lords personally promised to take him as a disciple?!

Those thirty or so people who had previously been found to have Spiritual Roots and were waiting in the side hall on the east side had been somewhat smug, but now they were filled with deep envy.

Is this the treatment for Dual Spiritual Roots?

The difference is just too great.

Bai Chen, having listened up to this point, picked up on some nuances.

Although both were vying for Chen Jinbao, neither directly said they would take him under their wing as a personal disciple, only that he could join their peak for Inner Sect training.

It seems that unless he successfully undergoes Qi Induction and body refinement to enter the Qi Refining Stage and passes their so-called assessment, no matter how good his talent is, he can't achieve instant success.

It's unclear whether this rule applies only to those who come to participate in the test on their own or if it's the same for those who were brought into Hexu Sect early.

While Bai Chen pondered the management issues of Hexu Sect, Chen Jinbao was so overwhelmed by the situation that he was about to explode.
