Chapter 23 – Blood Talisman and Iron Armor Technique

As the Yin Wind grew stronger again, it was about to enter the body of the deceased.

Over on Daoist Lin Jiu's side, he had already bitten his middle finger and drawn a Yellow Talisman.

Just as Bai Yu finished his tune, Lin Jiu completed his talisman.

The talisman in his hand ignited without wind, transforming into a blaze that soared into the air, colliding with the Yin Wind.

Unexpectedly, the Yin Wind was directly dispersed.

The water-stained footprints on the ground instantly dried up.

Daoist Lin Jiu's face turned slightly pale, his lips cracked, and he looked extremely angry.

"What happened? What exactly did this Iron Wolf Protector do to cause a second return of the Sha?"

"I prepared double the usual Yellow Talismans, but they couldn't suppress it. I had no choice but to use my vital blood to draw a Blood Talisman."

"Using a Blood Talisman for a single funeral is a huge loss."

"But fortunately, the problem is solved. If the deceased had turned into a Sha Corpse, that would have been real trouble."

Bai Yu hurriedly poured him a cup of tea:

"Uncle Jiu, have some tea to calm down."

He was still confused, wondering what a Blood Talisman and a second return of the Sha were.

Daoist Lin Jiu took a sip of hot tea, calmed his breath, and said:

"Xiao Bai, it's all thanks to you this time. Your suona played the Soul-Calming Sound, giving me the time to draw the Blood Talisman."

"I've been a Yin-Yang Master for decades and have never seen anyone with such high talent on the suona as you."

"At such a young age, you've already grasped the Soul-Calming Intent."

Bai Yu quickly asked:

"Uncle Jiu, what exactly is a Blood Talisman?"

Daoist Lin Jiu instructed Bai Yu to close the door, then began to explain.

It turned out that his skills were all passed down from a book called the "Zhuyou Yin Talisman Scripture."

It recorded many strange techniques from various sources.

Some came from ancient Yin-Yang masters, some were influenced by Daoist talismans, some were passed down from shamanic teachings, and others originated from ancient body cultivators.

The Blood Talisman was inherited from ancient body cultivators, drawn with one's vital blood as ink, and possessed many magical functions.

In the Yin-Yang Master profession, it's a mishmash of everything.

Whatever works to solve the problem is used, regardless of its origin.

Daoist Lin Jiu sighed:

"My master said that in ancient times, body cultivators could rival the Qi Refining cultivators of the Dao."

"Unfortunately, the lineage of ancient body cultivators declined, and many of their techniques evolved into mundane martial arts."

"Meanwhile, the Qi Refining lineage developed into a powerful cultivation civilization."

"Most of the Blood Talismans of body cultivators were lost, with only a few absorbed by mundane Yin-Yang Masters."

"Sadly, those that survived are mostly talismans for suppressing or transforming Sha, lacking any powerful Blood Talismans."

Bai Yu's heart was stirred.

Ancient body cultivators, Daoist Qi Refiners, Yin-Yang masters, Blood Talismans...

This world truly filled him with a desire to explore.

That night, the two of them couldn't sleep, talking until dawn.

Bai Yu discovered that Uncle Jiu's knowledge was indeed vast.

Although Uncle Jiu's martial arts were only at the third level, his status among Yin-Yang Masters was at the Grandmaster level.

He had heard and seen so much, and Bai Yu listened with great interest, still wanting more even as the day broke.

The next two days went smoothly.

Bai Yu followed Daoist Lin Jiu to perform the funeral and transform the Sha for the Iron Wolf Protector.

When the Iron Wolf Protector was laid to rest, Uncle Jiu even showed off a bit.

He pulled out over a dozen Yellow Talismans from his sleeve, rubbed them between his fingers, and flames burst forth.

He then tossed them into the air, where the burning talismans scattered like a celestial maiden scattering flowers, creating a spectacular display of firelight.

The Iron Wolf Protector's family nodded repeatedly, saying they had made the right choice in hiring Daoist Lin.

The funeral guests were also amazed, loudly praising Daoist Lin as a Grandmaster in the Yin-Yang and Feng Shui industry.

Daoist Lin stood with his hands behind his back, smiling, exuding the demeanor of a master.

Only Bai Yu, standing to the side, suppressed a laugh.

Uncle Jiu's talisman-throwing was indeed impressive.

But he had burned his fingers, and his right hand was hidden in his sleeve, rubbing back and forth.

Finally, the funeral concluded perfectly.

The Iron Wolf Protector's family expressed their gratitude, offering thirty taels of silver as a token of thanks.

Uncle Jiu modestly declined before "reluctantly" accepting.

After leaving, Uncle Jiu handed Bai Yu ten taels of silver.

"Xiao Bai, this is for you. It's all thanks to you this time."

"Otherwise, if the Sha energy had entered the body of a mid-level martial artist, the consequences would have been much more severe."

Bai Yu accepted the silver with a smile:

"It's what I should do."

He couldn't help but sigh at how easy it was to make money from the wealthy.

In just three days, ten taels of silver, enough to earn several years' salary without eating or drinking.

Both were in high spirits, chatting and laughing along the way.

As they exited the alley, they saw a large, fat monk followed by a cloaked man.

The man was tall, wearing a hood, his face obscured.

But from his build, he looked very much like Mangzi, who had left earlier.

Bai Yu called out, "Brother Mang!"

The cloaked man didn't react, walking past without turning his head.

But the fat monk turned and gave Bai Yu a kind smile.

Bai Yu was a bit puzzled:

"Did I see wrong?"

However, Bai Yu didn't dwell on it and happily returned home.

He closed the door and eagerly claimed his reward.

[Received ordinary reward: Qi and Blood +188, Life Experience +888.]

Bai Yu's whole body warmed, his Qi and Blood surged, greatly increasing within him.

Gaining 188 points of Qi and Blood, his Skin Tempering progress could advance further.

[Funeral Participation 53%, you may choose an additional reward.]

[Family Satisfaction 70%, you may choose an additional reward.]

Thus, Bai Yu could choose two additional rewards.

Bai Yu looked at the Funeral World Panel.

[Available rewards: Blade Technique Experience, Iron Armor Technique, Mad Demon Blade Technique, Monument Crushing Leg, Black Wolf Mind Technique (Incomplete Version)...]

Overall, the Iron Wolf Protector's martial arts were high, but the cultivation techniques were average, all Yellow Rank techniques.

Bai Yu thought for a moment and first chose the Iron Armor Technique.

[Iron Armor Technique, Yellow Rank Middle Grade, specifically enhances defense, capable of tempering the skin.]

This was exactly what Bai Yu needed.

Next, Bai Yu chose Blade Technique Experience.

[Blade Technique Experience +999!]

A single slash of 999, this could enhance blade technique cultivation.

Without hesitation, Bai Yu applied the Blade Technique Experience to the Soul Severing Blade.

The proficiency of the Soul Severing Blade skyrocketed, immediately reaching Thorough Understanding!

Bai Yu picked up the steel blade, swinging it repeatedly, producing sounds of slicing through the air.

He felt as if the steel blade had become an extension of his arm, his moves becoming increasingly fierce and ruthless.

His cultivation technique and martial skill panel became:

[Cultivation Technique: Four Symbols Five Elements Fist (Thorough Understanding, 3/10000)]

[Martial Skill: Soul Severing Blade (Thorough Understanding 125/10000), Mysterious Turtle Qi Gathering Technique (Practice Makes Perfect), Void Walking Step (Practice Makes Perfect), Iron Armor Technique (Not Yet Initiated)]

Next, it was time to practice the Iron Armor Technique.
