Chapter 9 – The Escape Plan from the Treatment Room

Gu Yi calmed himself and began another deduction.

(Deduction start!)

(You closed your eyes.)

(You carefully reviewed the clues you had gathered.)

(The Deer-Headed Person doesn't choose based on whether your eyes are open, but if you make eye contact with it, you will most likely be chosen.)

(Additionally, a group of Pig-headed People were the ones giving the Deer-Headed Person a tour.)

(The merchants in the hospital—like the chef who sells meals and the owner of the Convenience Store—all wear Pig Head Masks.)

(Therefore, the hospital is in the business of trading live humans! The way the Deer-Headed People acted, it was clear they were selecting merchandise. And the Pig-headed People are the sales consultants who help the hospital sell live humans.)

(The doctors burn any patient they can't cure, which proves that in their eyes, patients are just commodities, not lives.)

(Except for the patients, everyone here is a monster, and humans are the goods they trade.)

(You believe your reasoning has brought you closer to a part of the truth.)

(But deducing this much isn't enough to achieve a perfect clear.)

(Why do the monsters trade humans? What do they do with them after buying them? How did "I" become an Unmentionable in this world? What exactly is the patients' "illness"?)

(You don't rush to deduce further. Your primary task now is to find a way to avoid today's crisis and not be taken away by the Deer-Headed Person.)

(You close your eyes.)

(You hear the Deer-Headed Person pass by your window.)

(You sneak a peek and see the Deer-Headed Person leading the female patient away.)

(You try to analyze the similarities between yourself and the female patient.)

(1. You are both patients.)

(2. The female patient sleeps with her eyes open, and so do you.)

(3. You are both relatively good-looking.)

(You can't find any other commonalities.)

(You silently memorize the female patient's bed number. You decide to find a chance later to investigate her medical records for more information.)

(Since you're out of ideas for now, you decide to try a different approach.)

(You take out the fruit knife and try to break out of the treatment pod from the inside.)

(You manage to poke a gap.)

(You slide the fruit knife into the gap of the pod's door and pry open the latch, but the knife breaks in the process.)

(You glance outside the window; no one is paying attention to you for the moment. Using all your strength, you push the door open with your hands and feet.)

(You jump out of the treatment pod.)

(The treatment pod's alarm blares.)

(You frantically hide underneath the treatment pod.)

(A nurse comes in to check, but she happens to not see you.)

(You hide under the treatment pod, waiting for the nurse to leave.)

(A short while later, an announcement broadcasts news of your escape. You see people from the Security Department searching for you outside the glass window.)

(A burly man walks into the treatment room.)

(He bends down, lies on the floor, and your eyes meet.)

(He is wearing an Elephant Mask.)

(You remember the hint from the first note.)

("If you see any damaged equipment, please contact the person wearing the Elephant Mask for repairs immediately.")

(The Elephant-headed Person must be the hospital's repairman.)

(He drags you out from under the treatment pod and smashes your head with a hammer.)

(Your vision turns crimson.)

(You are dead.)

Gu Yi closed his eyes and frowned.

Having his head smashed in two consecutive deductions left him feeling a little dejected.

If he stayed here and was eventually taken by the Deer-Headed Person, it would be a dead end. He didn't dare gamble on his luck.

"There's another way!"

Gu Yi's eyes lit up as he thought of a new plan.

(Deduction start.)

(You lie in the treatment pod and take out the fruit knife.)

(You forcefully slit your own throat.)

(Blood gushes out.)

(You grit your teeth, repeatedly bang on the pod door, and scream for help.)

(A nurse hears the commotion, rushes over, and lifts you out of the treatment pod.)

(Your consciousness is fading.)

(You feel like you cut too deeply.)

(You are pushed onto an Operating Table as doctors perform emergency treatment on you.)

(Your vision goes black.)

(You lose consciousness.)

(When you wake up again, you are in a Special Care Ward.)

(You are alone in this room, with not even another bed beside you. You don't know how long you've been in this ward.)

(You are utterly terrified.)

(You climb out of bed and feel your body suddenly become lighter.)

(You discover someone who looks exactly like you standing behind you.)

(You scream, your pupils dilating.)

(You are scared to death.)

(Deduction end.)

"How could this happen?"

Gu Yi covered his eyes in despair.

Self-harm could attract the nurses' attention and get him sent to the Emergency Room, but he had passed out from his severe injuries and was unknowingly transferred to a Special Care Ward.

The Special Care Ward has a rule: a room must be occupied by two people.

That's why after he was placed in that single room, another version of himself split off, and he was literally scared to death.

Gu Yi gritted his teeth and rubbed his temples.

I must have missed something!

Think about it, why didn't the "scared to death by my own doppelgänger" ending trigger when I first entered the Dungeon, even though there wasn't a second bed in the ward then either?

"One more time."

A quick look at "pawread dot com" will leave you more fulfilled.

Gu Yi closed his eyes and started the deduction again.

This was his last chance to run a deduction. He had to make it count!

(Deduction start!)

(You close your eyes and recall every little detail from when you first entered the Dungeon.)

("A Special Care Ward must be occupied by two people.")

(This piece of information doesn't necessarily mean there must be two actual people in the ward. As long as you can create the illusion of two occupants, you can trick the rule.)

(At the very beginning, although there wasn't a second bed in the ward, there were a lot of someone else's clothes on the floor. Perhaps that's why the Unmentionable didn't kill you.)

(You haven't obtained any more clues at the moment, so this is the only judgment you can make.)

(The first time you self-harmed, you cut too deeply, causing you to pass out before even getting to the Operating Table.)

(You take a deep breath and stab yourself in the chest with the knife.)

(Blood soaks your clothes.)

(You scream for help.)

(A nurse quickly rescues you and sends you to the Emergency Room.)

(The doctors try to save you, but you remain conscious.)

(Doctor: Why would you try to kill yourself? What's troubling you so much?)

(You: Don't give me any anesthesia.)

(Doctor: How are we supposed to operate without anesthesia?)

(You: I don't want to fall asleep!)

(Doctor: Ignore him. Give him the drug.)

(A mask is placed over your face.)

(Your vision goes black.)

(You fall asleep.)
