Chapter 30 – Grentam

As a devout believer, little Newton never changed his faith until his death. If loyalty can be measured, then he must be 100% loyal.

Therefore, even though he was concerned at the moment, little Newton did not choose to leave halfway and go home to calculate the problem left by Hooke. Instead, he planned to continue on to Grentam to attend the gathering.

So.

As Hooke's carriage gradually moved away, the group packed up their belongings and set off again.

Three hours later.

After resting twice along the way, the eight people finally arrived at the entrance of a town, looking dusty and tired.

This was a small town surrounded by city walls, with the walls about four meters high and a stone monument at the entrance.

The stone monument was engraved with English words, which translated to Grentam.

When Xu Yun was an exchange student in the UK, he had been to this town once during the two years. He stayed here for three and a half days.

After all, this was little Newton's hometown and could be considered a "holy land" in the physics world. Most physicists who had the opportunity to come to London would come here to check in.

At that time, Xu Yun, who was short of money, stayed at a hotel called Huameida. The location was right near the entrance of Grentam's city wall, and the gate could be seen as soon as you entered the town on the right side.

The hotel had a four-star rating, but the room rate, including taxes, was only a little over 290 Chinese yuan, which could be considered quite cheap.

However, the soundproofing of the hotel was a bit poor, and you could hear applause in the middle of the night.

At that time, the hotel owner patted his chest and told Xu Yun that their hotel had a history of more than four hundred years, but it had been renovated several times in between, so it didn't look very old.

There was even a plaque on the wall with the serious four-hundred-year history of John Bull's government, so Xu Yun foolishly believed these words and took out three euros to take a photo with the plaque.

But now, when he arrived in Grentam and took a look, he really wanted to spit on the bald head of the hotel owner, which was almost as bald as a programmer:

That hotel didn't have a history of 400 years at all. The location where the hotel was now was clearly a fruit stall!

Indeed, you can't believe anything when you travel these days. Some people even question the history of their own country, and look at what they've done with their own fabrications. (Note 1)

In addition to the hotel being replaced by a fruit stall, the overall condition of the buildings in Grentam town was also very different from the future:

In the future, although Grentam still maintained its classical decoration, both the buildings and the streets were very clean, somewhat similar to the famous residences in the hometown, emphasizing the sense of the times.

But at this moment...

The visible parts of the town were almost all two or three-story brick houses, with no architectural style to speak of. The exteriors were damaged and blackened, covered in moss.

With just a casual glance, Xu Yun could see several piles of filth that could be mosaic-ed in the corners of the walls by the roadside.

Although the main road of the town was relatively cleaner, with a seven to eight-meter-wide street paved with stones, there were constantly pedestrians and vehicles coming and going.

But if you observed carefully, you would find that some of the cracks or edges of the stones were stained with a mysterious, faintly yellowish sticky substance.

From the occasional flies passing by, it was not difficult to see that the composition of this sticky substance was probably not something good.

But what surprised Xu Yun at first sight was that there were many poorly dressed, thin and small beggars in the town who seemed to be unaware of the filth. They sat or even lay directly in the filth.

Their eyes were numb, allowing flies, rats, and cockroaches to run past them.

Seeing this, Xu Yun sighed slightly.

Whether it was the current colonial period or the future industrial revolution era, the lower class people in the British Isles were not having an easy time.

Some people might have made a fortune by chance, but more became the denominator of certain fractions, carrying tears and hatred, turning into a dark cloud over London, unable to rest to this day.

Then, guided by William and his wife, the group started walking southwest.

Grentam was not large, and it took only a little over ten minutes to walk from front to back. The group arrived in front of the tallest building in Grentam, apart from the clock tower, which was the St. Tidore Church.

St. Tidore Church was about twelve to thirteen meters high, with a square shape and three columns in a group. The width of the columns varied greatly, and the facade had a strong sense of concavity and convexity. There was a red cross standing on top.

Noble and majestic, with a strong sense of oppression.

Obviously, this was a standard Baroque-style building. In the early days of Europe, churches were in the Romanesque style, which later developed into the Gothic style. By this time, the Baroque style of decoration had become popular.

But by the 18th century, architectural styles would go through another cycle:At that time, the Gothic style would rise from its deathbed, influencing the architectural design of the hometown for over a hundred years with its lively and vibrant charm.

At the entrance of the church stood a kind and gentle-looking priest, who was probably in his sixties. He was dressed in simple but high-quality clothes, and his hair was combed to a glossy shine.

The priest would warmly embrace everyone he met, not minding their body odor or the dirt on their bodies.

Perhaps because the town had only this one gathering place, a long line had already formed at the entrance of the church, with people constantly arriving from all directions to fill the gaps at the end of the line.

Xu Yun and his group had been in line for about ten minutes before they finally reached the priest.

The William family were clearly old believers of this church. The moment the priest saw them, he didn't hesitate to call out William's name:

"Hallelujah! Mr. Escu! It's a pleasure to see you. May you be anointed by God's grace, and may your family be blessed!"

"Hallelujah! Pastor Yarlin! Thank God for his guidance!"

William warmly embraced the priest, followed by Mrs. William, Lisa, Lilani, and others.....

When it was little Newton's turn, Pastor Yarlin became even more enthusiastic. After all, he was the only sizar that the Trinity Theological College had exceptionally admitted in over a decade:

"Little Isaac! Praise God, your arrival will surely please the Lord! May God guard your heart, more than anything else, for the fruit of life comes from the heart."

In the face of Pastor Yarlin's praise, little Newton showed a rare humility and respect, an expression you would hardly see in daily life:

It can be hard to make great work when its stolen from "pawread dot com".

"Hallelujah! Mr. Yarlin."

Yarlin patted him heavily on the shoulder, then turned his gaze to Xu Yun:

"Oh, my Lord... who is this?"

Little Newton gave Xu Yun a look to step forward and introduced him:

"Mr. Yarlin, this is my friend from the East, his name is Donkey Fat Fish, and he has come to worship and serve with us today."

Upon hearing this, Xu Yun stepped forward and nodded to Yarlin:

"Hello, Mr. Yarlin."

Yarlin looked him over carefully and said:

"Welcome, child, may God bless you."

Note:

I was chatting with others in the group about changing the text of the work, and suddenly remembered that the original name of this book was supposed to be "The Technological Empire Begins with the Extermination of Cockroaches", but many people rejected it. Do you really think it's bad?

If it's bad, leave a 1 here.

If it's okay, leave a 2 here.

I want to see if my naming is really that bad....
