Chapter 191 – Collapsed

Karun remembered that after completing the symbiotic contract last night, he opened his eyes and remembered that he personally picked up Puerh and placed it on the bed, covering it with a blanket. He also remembered telling Alfred and Kevin that his symbiotic ceremony was successful, but now he didn't want to be disturbed and needed to take a break.

Alfred took Kevin back to his room to rest.

And he...did he take a bath in the bathroom?

And, did he fall asleep while soaking?

Karun moved his body a little bewilderedly, causing a slight sound of water.

Yes, his last memory from last night stopped at sitting in the bathtub, wanting to sort out his thoughts while taking a bath, but unexpectedly fell asleep.

His intuition told him that he had slept for a long time, and when he self-examined, he found that there were a few more forces in his body...no, not a few more.

If the power was compared to a foundation stone, the spiritual reservoir in his body had become much richer in color.

This was a very peculiar feeling, as if suddenly perceiving several kinds of power, which were so strange but also so familiar.

The corresponding long sleep may have been to refill the newly rebuilt reservoir. Karun had experienced this before when he overused himself while practicing magic.

At this moment, Karun found that the water in the bathtub was still warm, not a little cool, but the kind of warmth that was suitable for soaking.

Taking some water and holding it in front of his eyes, Karun actually sensed a bright aura in the water.

So, when he was asleep, did the light power in his body still operate to help him maintain the water temperature?

"Heh..."

Karun smiled and shook his head. It was good. He would never have to worry about catching a cold while sleeping in the bath again.

Getting up from the bathtub and wiping his body with a towel, Karun changed his clothes.

When he was washing up and facing the mirror, he found that he seemed to be a little different, not a change in appearance, of course, there seemed to be no room for improvement in his appearance; the change was in his temperament. Although he still looked very young, there was a sense of calmness in him. If Karun had to describe it in a way he was familiar with, it was...elegant.

If he put on a robe and went to the church, even if he looked very young, the believers would probably think he was a newly appointed priest.

This should be the change brought by the power of light. Karun was quite satisfied with it. He had always been somewhat uncomfortable with his "youth." If he could make himself feel more stable, he would be happy.Walking into the bedroom, Karun found that Puerh was not in bed. He didn't rush out or ring the bell. Instead, he walked into the study and glanced at the clock on the wall. It was five in the afternoon.

He had slept almost the whole day and checked the calendar carefully. Fortunately, he hadn't missed a whole day, just slept through one.

There was a hot water bottle on the desk, and as usual, Shili would come to add hot water for him three times a day.

Karun picked up the hot water bottle, opened the lid of the teacup, and found that there were tea leaves inside. After making the tea, Karun sat down behind the desk.

While waiting for the tea to cool, Karun opened his right hand and a flame appeared in his palm, changing into various shapes according to his thoughts.

Then, with a slight condensation in his right eye, the flame was dyed with a layer of white, instantly giving off a sacred feeling.

At that moment, an old man appeared in front of Karun's desk.

"You're still here?" Karun was a little surprised.

"You moved?" The old man was also surprised. After looking around, he smiled and said, "You brought my books here, so naturally I followed. After all, the spiritual imprint is carried in books, not houses."

Then, the old man looked at the holy flame in Karun's palm and said incredulously, "You... you converted to the God of Light?"

"Not really." Karun shook his head.

"I know there is the power of light in your body, but this is the first time I've seen the breath of faith in the God of Light on you. Have you turned to the embrace of the God of Light?"

"Have you ever thought that the so-called breath of faith in the God of Light is just because some part of our own breath and the God of Light are shared, and we have always regarded what we possess as a gift from the gods and are extremely grateful for it?"

The old man smiled bitterly and said, "You're blaspheming again."

At some point, the old man had become accustomed to this.

Karun opened a drawer and found several packs of cigarettes. He no longer smoked, but he still carried a pack and a lighter with him, and Alfred would always have one ready in the places Karun frequented.

Picking up a pack of cigarettes and throwing it on the desk, Karun asked, "Do you smoke?"

"I used to, but unfortunately, I can't smoke now. However, the real me comes from a colony that produces tobacco, and I should be able to enjoy it now."

"Does smoking make you happy?"

"Happiness? I can't describe this feeling. For a veteran smoker, tobacco is hard to call a kind of happiness.""Yeah." Karun nodded. "If you don't smoke, you have a baseline level of 10 happiness. But when you smoke, the nicotine steals 5 points of happiness from you, leaving you with only 5 points of ordinary happiness. And then, in order to seek an increase in happiness, you smoke again, and the nicotine gives you 3 points of happiness, allowing you to reach 8 points of happiness in a short period of time. But after a while, you're back to 5 points, and then you have to go find it again.

You wouldn't blame it for stealing your 5 points of happiness, but you would be grateful for the 'extra' 3 points of happiness it gave you. It clearly stole something that belonged to you, but you still feel thankful towards it."

The old man fell silent. He knew exactly what Karun was alluding to.

Karun picked up the cigarette box and flipped it over repeatedly.

"We'll find all kinds of reasons to console ourselves that we need it. We'll weave all kinds of stories to convince ourselves that we can't live without it, and naturally assume that it's a part of our lives.

But no matter how many reasons, excuses, stories, or seemingly reasonable teachings we have, they're all false.

If you don't smoke for half a day, you'll feel uncomfortable. If you don't smoke for a day, you'll feel pain. And after three days without it, you'll have a splitting headache and want to slap yourself.

It's only at this point that you can clearly realize... you're just a pitiful slave groveling at its feet."

"Well, I'm used to hearing these words from you, but my heart remains steadfast," the old man laughed. "Perhaps, in the eyes of God, you're just a naughty little lamb, and God will forgive you."

Karun smiled. He knew that when a person stops using theory to explore and instead uses this kind of method to cover up the topic, it means that their heart is avoiding it.

"So, how do you explain this?" Karun asked.

In the next moment, a light of brightness shone from Karun's right eye, while his left eye revealed a deep order.

The old man was speechless.

"You can think about it again and see if your heart is still so steadfast," Karun said.

"You're a demon," the old man let out a bitter laugh. "You've contaminated me."

"A demon is just a dog."

"What?"

"I hope that when I see you again, you'll say something different from before."

"So... you want to control me?" the old man asked.

"I do want to know more about the information regarding the Brightness... the current situation of the Brightness Church. After all, when I cover my left eye, who can deny that I'm a devout believer of the Brightness?" Karun said.

"I think you're close to succeeding," the old man said."Don't worry, don't worry. According to what you said, you have already been 'contaminated' by me. It's like marinating food. It needs to be stored for a while to taste better."

"Hehe."

The old man left with a laugh and disappeared in the study.

"I almost forgot, I need to go to the cemetery to cook for the refrigerator. Sigh."

Karun sighed. The refrigerator had not been moved back home yet, and he felt bad about taking a leave of absence now.

Just then, the phone rang and Karun answered:

"Hello, Pavarro Funeral Society."

"Pavarro Judge? Oh no, you're Karun." It was Marlo's voice on the other end of the phone. "I got your contact information from Vani. I've prepared some good wine and tender beef. I plan to have a barbecue tonight. Will you come, Karun?"

Karun knew that Marlo couldn't resist his curiosity about "that formation" in his hands. For those who really liked to study formations, even waiting for one more day was a kind of torture.

"Okay, when?"

"When are you free?" Marlo asked.

Karun looked at the time and said, "It might take some time."

"That's okay. We usually have a late-night snack after midnight."

"Okay, where?"

"It's the factory where you and Gray exchanged information. Gray and Wend are coming, Vani and Peina are also coming, oh, and Kunxi."

"Okay, I'll try to come early."

"Haha, it's okay. You go ahead and do your thing. Is that settled then?"

"Yes."

Karun hung up the phone, got up and walked out of the study, and happened to see Puerh riding on Kevin:

"Oh, you're awake?" Puerh immediately asked, "Did you forget to drain the water from your bathtub?"

"Oh, I forgot."

"Then don't drain it. Later, I'll have Dora and Doreen take a bath in your bathtub. It's good for their physical recovery. You're really extravagant."

"What about you? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine."

"Any changes?" Karun asked.

"Changes? Do you mean this?" Puerh waved her paw and a fireball appeared. "It's level one in the family's belief system. Although it's very low, it's a good start. I can try to see how high I can cultivate with a cat's body."

Because Puerh was riding on Kevin's back, the fireball appeared on Kevin's head, and then the hair on Kevin's head was ignited.

At first, Kevin didn't notice and just habitually opened his mouth and stuck out his tongue, grinning. Until he smelled a burnt smell.

"Oh no!" Puerh let out a loud scream. She had set the stupid dog on fire.

Karun reached out his hand, a puddle of water condensed out and directly poured onto Kevin, drenching the golden retriever. He wasn't injured, but his head was bald from being burned."Oops, sorry, stupid dog, I didn't ask for your permission before giving you a haircut."

Kevin didn't blame Puerh, instead, he ran to a distance and began to shake off the water droplets on his body frantically. After finishing, he ran back, squatted down, and scratched his head with his own paws.

"Young Master, you're awake." Alfred heard the commotion outside and walked out.

"Alfred, ask Hili to take out the bag of dumplings I made last time from the fridge and bring it to me. Also, make a few copies of the formations that the judges are interested in. Choose some interesting ones, not the complicated ones. Additionally, study Mr. Hoffman's notes on Kevin's seal. When you're ready, I'll try to release some of Kevin's seals."

Hearing this, Kevin immediately resumed his silly smile, even if he was bald.

"Okay, Young Master, please wait a moment."

Karun sat down on the bench, and Puerh followed, jumping onto Karun's lap and asking, "Have you felt anything different?"

"A lot has changed, but I don't know the specific effects. However..."

"However, what?"

"However, I should know tonight."

Alfred was very efficient, and Karun had only been sitting for a while when he came back with a bag of frozen dumplings and a red-covered notebook.

"Young Master, shall I put them in the car for you?"

"No need, I'll take them myself. Oh, and I'll be back late tonight."

After putting the things in the car, Karun drove to the Qingteng Cemetery. Old Saman hadn't closed the door and was sweeping the ground with a big broom. Karun drove in and stopped the car, then got out with the dumplings.

"What's this?" Old Saman asked curiously.

"Dumplings."

"Dumplings?" Old Saman shook his head. "What a strange pronunciation."

"This is a new dish I created recently. I just researched it and brought it over to ask you to taste it."

"Oh, really? I'm so excited. I'll pretend I didn't see that you just wanted to get rid of tonight's dinner."

"It's much tastier than the spaghetti you make."

"Is it? I don't believe you."

Karun walked into the kitchen and boiled the dumplings, then prepared three dishes - one was Vein's favorite soybean paste, one was spicy sauce, and the other was pure fruit vinegar.

Old Saman had already set up a small table, and Karun brought out two plates of dumplings.

Old Saman used a fork to put a dumpling in his mouth. "How does it taste?"

"Not bad." Old Saman continued to eat the second, third...

Karun hesitated for a moment when he picked up his fork, then put it down again."You're not eating?" Old Saman asked as he moved the plate of dumplings in front of Karun towards himself.

"I have a party tonight, someone else is treating me, so I'm saving some room in my stomach."

"Hehe, that's a good habit."

"I still have some dumplings left, I put them in your fridge," Karun said.

"Oh, how many are left?"

"About a hundred?"

"There's still so many left, I don't believe you, you're just fooling me."

"If you don't believe me, you can count them yourself in the fridge."

"Fine, I will." Old Saman picked up his pipe and tapped it on the table, a cloud of smoke filled the air. He reached in and pulled out a bag of dumplings, placing it on the table.

"Heh, there really are that many, you didn't lie to me, kid." Old Saman stretched his neck. "How about this, when you come back tomorrow night, use your hearse to take my fridge back to your place."

Karun looked down at the pipe.

"The pipe, the flute, take them with you too."

Karun didn't show any excitement on his face, but instead asked, "Is it happening so soon?"

"Yeah, much faster than expected. The delegation from the Palmyra religion has been kicked out of the Ankara hotel by the Order of the Gods, and is now staying in an ordinary hotel in York City. This is pretty much the final straw. Now, it's up to your high-level people to issue the final decree. Once the decree is issued, all Palmyra religious organizations will be purged."

"Then I'll have someone come measure you for size tomorrow and make your clothes."

"Hmm?"

"What kind of funeral do you like?"

"I haven't really thought about it."

"Then think about it tonight, and I'll come tomorrow to record it."

Old Saman took another bite of dumpling and nodded.

"Take your time eating, I'll leave now. I'll come earlier tomorrow."

"Okay, bye. Oh, right, before you came, your captain was here and left something behind. Do you want to return it to him? Or, he's coming back tomorrow anyway, so I can give it to him then."

Old Saman got up and walked into the cabin, then came out with a black mask.

Karun reached out and took it. "I'll go give it to him."

On the way from here to the factory, he would pass by Wutong Street, it was just a matter of turning in. Karun also remembered that his god robe should be ready for pickup, so after leaving the mask in the captain's office, he could also pick up the robe.

Karun got into the car, while Old Saman went back to where he was eating dumplings. Karun honked his horn three times at him, and Old Saman angrily made a "shh" gesture at him.

Twenty minutes later, Karun drove into Wutong Street, but found that his usual parking spot was full of cars.

"Are they having a meeting? There are so many cars."Karun went in and looked around, but couldn't find a parking spot in such a large place. In the end, he had to drive out and park directly by the roadside.

He didn't know if he would be fined for parking illegally near the academic building, and if he was fined, could he use his servant's certificate for reimbursement?

"Snap!"

Karun closed the car door and looked at the academic building, which was a distance away because of the parking. He could only sigh and walk in that direction with his mask.

Just as he took a few steps...

"Boom!!!"

Terrifying vibrations and a deafening roar came, and dust filled the air.

After steadying himself, Karun looked ahead in shock.

The towering academic building of the Order of the Gods had collapsed right in front of him.
