Chapter 17 – Combat power 'surges'

**[Ding, a certain unknown change has been detected in someone on the ship. Please click to view details.]**

While Li Yuan was still pondering, the system's voice echoed in his mind, accompanied by a startling message.

He immediately checked the details.

This time, it wasn't just a text menu that popped up. The first thing that appeared in Li Yuan's mind was a 3D character portrait, slowly rotating.

The person was Ashan.

**[Mutation Type: "Benign Mutation" caused by contact with an unknown organism]**

**[Mutation Stage: Unknown]**

**[Mutation Level: Unknown]**

**[Infectiousness: None]**

**[Mutation Description: Mutations can be categorized by mutation paths into "Hybrid Mutation" and "Transmissive Mutation." The target human belongs to the latter—"Transmissive Mutation." Transmissive Mutation is defined as a secondary mutation caused by contact with certain special mutated organisms, through various pathways. After testing, the target human's mutation does not have the ability to spread further, classified as "Pure Maternal Transmissive Mutation." It will not spread again unless it encounters a transmissive host. Currently, the target human's thoughts are clear, cell division within the body is active yet non-destructive, strength is slowly increasing, and lung cell division is accelerating, suggesting the evolution of gills. Thus, this mutation is determined to be a benign mutation, not affecting the mutant's mind and enhancing certain abilities.]**

Li Yuan was bewildered. He had heard Avril mention "Mutants," but this was his first encounter with one, and it was an "Aberrant Human" in the process of benign mutation.

Li Yuan couldn't help but look at the girl named Ashan. She was shorter than her sister and was the last one rescued, in the worst condition, looking as if she was on the brink of death.

Now, Ashan clearly lacked energy, her eyes constantly darting to the dried fish stored on Li Yuan's boat, occasionally swallowing, clearly wanting to eat.

Li Yuan quickly understood; the girl's cells were dividing, requiring a lot of energy, hence her hunger and lack of spirit.

If this was a benign mutation that didn't affect her mind, it might be worth a try.

Speaking of which, this family was actually quite decent. Despite their difficult situation, they never targeted this boat while at sea...

After some thought, Li Yuan decided to accept these three people!

A rope tied to the oar slot quietly drew a checkmark in Avril's palm.

"Well, I agree to let you stay, but you must abide by the rules of this ship," Avril said.

"Really? That's great, ma'am. From now on, you're our captain, and we'll certainly follow your orders!" the man said excitedly.

Avril awkwardly shrugged, "Not my orders, the ship's."

The man was momentarily stunned but quickly understood, "Right, right, the ship's. At sea, the ship is our lifeline; even the captain can't go against it. By the way, Captain, how should we address you? I'll go first. I'm Terry, this is my eldest daughter, sixteen years old, called Tai Min, or just Amin, and this is Tai Shan, fifteen years old, you can call her Ashan."

Avril couldn't explain further; these people already regarded her as the captain. She could only stick her tongue out at the captain.

"I'm Avril. You can just call me by my name. Now, go gather your things. We're planning to take on some tasks here and won't be leaving for now."

...

When Terry, Amin, and Ashan returned, they had nothing else but two sets of clothes.

These people, living off the trade market, relied on it for food and shelter, so they had little to bring.

The A family moved onto the boat. Naturally, Terry stayed outside the cabin, and Avril was happy to squeeze in with Amin and Ashan, making the small boat a bit crowded. Unfortunately, Rookie now had no place in the cabin and had to stay outside with Terry.

Li Yuan had not shown himself yet; with so many people around, it was better for him to remain silent.

After officially accepting the A family, Li Yuan quickly opened his information panel.

**[Host: Li Yuan]**

**[Vessel: Small Double-Layer Plank Ship]**

**[Crew Number: 5 (Positions can be assigned, click to view details)]**

**[Ship Speed: 3 knots (click to view details)]**

**[Combat Power: 5 (can be viewed in crew information)]**

**[Load Capacity: 347.8/1000 kg (click to view details)]**

**[Evolution Points: 86.3/150]**

With the arrival of the A family, Li Yuan's load increased by 200 kilograms, using up more than a third of the capacity even before loading cargo. However, this downside was directly ignored by Li Yuan in light of the increased crew number and vessel combat power.

"Damn, my combat power is off the charts now!" Li Yuan almost shouted, "Wait, combat power 5, still seems weak... Whatever, it's much stronger than before!"

As the data became more complex, many options had submenus, and Li Yuan opened them all without complaint.

Now, each of the five crew members had their own information panel. Avril and the others had simple panels with just names and combat power, while Tai Shan's was more complex, including a "Mutation Panel" in addition to basic information.

The crew and their respective combat powers were Rookie "1," Avril "0.5," Terry "1.5," Tai Min "0.5," and Tai Shan "0.5 (real-time)."

"So, one Terry can take on three Avrils..." Li Yuan couldn't help but chuckle; Avril was just too weak.

Behind these people was an option labeled "Pending Assignment," clearly for Li Yuan to assign roles. However, with just a small ramshackle boat, there was no need to complicate things, especially since he wasn't familiar with the A family yet, so he wouldn't assign positions so soon.

After waiting at the maritime market for two days, Avril finally received a mission.

This time it was a transport mission. A large ship ahead had taken most of the cargo, leaving a bit that no one wanted to haul, which conveniently fell to Li Yuan.

"Transport iron ore to the Missy Trade Market. As for the time, it doesn't matter; it's the last bit of cargo anyway, just deliver within 7 days, 1 pearl."

Going to the Missy Trade Market, 2 miles of cargo, priced at 3 white pearls, but now Jin Wei only offered 1 pearl, even for the remaining cargo, no one was willing to go.

Since they were making a trip anyway, it was definitely more profitable to carry more.

"We'll go!" Avril raised her hand excitedly.

"It's you again... Terry, are you running with them now?" Jin Wei looked at Terry.

Terry nodded, "Thanks to Captain Avril for taking us in, otherwise we'd have nowhere to go."

Jin Wei nodded and, while Avril was ashore, whispered in her ear, "Finish this run quickly, and I'll give you all my small orders in the future."

"Hmm? Why are you being so nice to us?"

"I'm not being nice to you! My son asked me to look after Ashan a bit more; that brat insists on waiting for Ashan to come back."

Avril nodded in surprise and winked at Jin Wei, "Don't worry, I won't mistreat them. Of course, getting more tasks for us would be even better."
