Chapter 28 – Costless Trade!

"Why stop him?" The Academy Elder raised his eyebrows and smiled. He pointed at Fang Yuan from a distance and continued, "This boy has already mastered the situation and knows exactly what he's doing. Look at how he strikes at the necks, only hitting the sides and never the back. He knows that hitting the sides can make someone faint instantly, while hitting the back could be fatal. So, he deliberately avoids that kind of attack."

"Look at these boys on the ground. Is any of them seriously injured? No! Even if there were serious injuries, so what? With the Healing Gu Masters in our academy, can't we treat such bruises and sprains?"

"But, Elder, this boy is too arrogant. He's blocking the main entrance, completely ignoring us guards. It's one thing for us to be overlooked, but what will the clan think of our academy? Allowing a mere Grade C student to cause such a ruckus without intervention. If word gets out, it could affect your reputation, sir," a guard squinted and suggested.

"Hmph, is it that you feel disrespected by this boy and your dignity is offended?" The Academy Elder was displeased, letting out a cold laugh. His sharp gaze swept over the guards, making them lower their heads in unison, admitting their fault.

"What's wrong with fighting? As long as no one dies, it can stimulate the students' competitive spirit and hone their combat will. If we ban such fights, we would be stifling their fighting passion! Haven't there been fights in previous years? Every year, and quite frequently. It's just that they usually happen in the latter half of the year when the boys have learned some combat skills and can't resist the itch to fight at their age. Why didn't you stop them before?" The Academy Elder questioned coldly.

"Perhaps because past fights were one-on-one, rarely on such a large scale. But this Fang Yuan is really causing a stir!" the Guard Captain replied.

"No, no, no." The Academy Elder shook his head, "It's because you didn't dare to stop them. After the latter half of the year, Gu Masters possess combat power beyond mortals. How could you mere mortals stop them? Now you want to stop Fang Yuan, perhaps thinking he's just started practicing and lacks strength. You feel disrespected, your dignity offended. But remember, all these students bear the Gu Yue surname! They are members of the Gu Yue Clan, your masters! No matter how young or weak, they are still your masters!"

The Elder's tone suddenly turned stern.

"You don't bear the Gu Yue surname, so what are you? Seeing your loyalty, you're given a guard position and some benefits. But essentially, you're still servants. Just servants! A servant dares to criticize the master, meddle in the master's affairs?" The Elder's face was as dark as water.

"That's not what I meant, not at all!"

"I wouldn't dare! I wouldn't dare!"

The guards were terrified, their faces ashen, and they knelt on the ground, kowtowing repeatedly.

The Academy Elder snorted coldly, pointing at the Guard Captain who had just said Fang Yuan was causing too much trouble, "You dared to criticize the master, you're stripped of your captaincy."

After a pause, the Elder addressed the others, "In half a month, we'll reassess and appoint a new captain."

The other guards' eyes lit up, suddenly invigorated.

"A Guard Captain gets an extra half piece of Primordial Stone every month!"

"Being a captain means being above others. Besides the masters, who else would dare give me attitude?"

"If I become the captain, how glorious it would be..."

"Alright, what are you all standing here for? Get out and clean up after the fight is over!" the Elder scolded.

"Yes, yes, yes."

"We take our leave!"

The guards, filled with fear and trepidation, descended the stairs. As they did, someone tripped, causing a chain reaction of falls.

But under the Academy Elder's imposing presence, the guards held their breath, suppressing any sound.

"Hmph, servants are like dogs, itching for a beating every now and then to remind them of respect. Throw them some small benefits to make them fight for the clan. The carrot and stick approach is the key to leadership," the Academy Elder thought with a cold smile, turning to look out the window at the academy's entrance.

On the ground at the entrance, more than ten students lay.

Fang Yuan stood proudly, facing three girls who huddled together, back to back.

"You, you, don't come any closer!"

"If you do, we'll shoot you with Moon Blades!"

A layer of water-blue light shimmered in their hands, indicating they were desperate enough to use True Essence to activate their Moonlight Gu.

Fang Yuan's body was still that of an ordinary fifteen-year-old boy. If they attacked with Moon Blades, it would indeed be troublesome.

But he wasn't afraid, sneering disdainfully as he approached the girls step by step, "You have some nerve, forgetting the academy's rules? No using Gu Insects for fighting inside the academy, or you'll be expelled. If you want to be expelled, go ahead and attack."

"This..." The girls hesitated.

"There is such a rule." The blue light in their hands gradually faded.

A sharp glint flashed in Fang Yuan's eyes. Seizing the opportunity, he rushed forward, his hands swinging, knocking two of them unconscious.

One remained, her fighting spirit shattered, and she collapsed to her knees, crying and pleading with Fang Yuan, "Fang Yuan, please don't come any closer, I beg you, spare me."

Fang Yuan looked down at her, his voice cold, "One Primordial Stone."

The girl's body trembled, realizing what he meant. She quickly opened her purse, took out three or four Primordial Stones, and held them out to Fang Yuan, "Don't hit me, I'll give you everything!"

Fang Yuan, expressionless, slowly extended his right hand, pinching a single Primordial Stone from her hand with his thumb and forefinger.

The girl's body trembled uncontrollably. Fang Yuan's hand, pale and slender like a typical teenager's, seemed like a terrifying claw in her eyes.

"I said from the start, just one Primordial Stone." Fang Yuan paused, speaking calmly, "You can go."

The girl stared at Fang Yuan for a while before attempting to stand, but her limbs were weak, and she couldn't get up.

Her heart was filled with fear of Fang Yuan, so much so that she couldn't muster any strength.

The Academy Elder, witnessing this, shook his head.

Using this opportunity to discover each student's combat talent was one of his objectives.

This girl, though possessing Grade C aptitude, had a temperament suited only for a Logistics Gu Master, working in production for the clan, not for the battlefield.

"But this Fang Yuan..." The Academy Elder rubbed his chin, eyes narrowing with a glint.

He found Fang Yuan intriguing, not only possessing combat talent but also knowing his limits. Extorting just one Primordial Stone didn't exceed his bottom line. But if Fang Yuan had demanded two, that would have been excessive, and he would have intervened.

The academy's stipend was only three stones. Losing one was no big deal, but losing two would negate the purpose of the stipend. Might as well give it all to Fang Yuan.

Soon, the last group of students arrived, including Fang Yuan's twin brother.

"Brother, how can you do this?! You're too bold, fighting classmates at the entrance and extorting their Primordial Stones!" Gu Yue Fang Zheng was dumbfounded, unable to believe what he was seeing, "I advise you to quickly admit your mistake to the Academy Elder. Otherwise, causing such a commotion is no joke; you might even get expelled!"

Fang Yuan chuckled, "You make a good point."

Fang Zheng sighed in relief, thinking his brother wasn't completely crazy and could still listen to reason.

But then he heard Fang Yuan say, "One Primordial Stone each."

"What?" Fang Zheng's mouth dropped open in shock, "Even me?"

"My dear brother, of course, you don't have to pay," Fang Yuan's tone was gentle, "But the consequence will be the same as theirs."

Fang Yuan gestured to the boys on the ground, either unconscious or groaning.

"Not even sparing his own brother!"

"This Fang Yuan is crazy, too ruthless..."

"We can't beat him. Better to pay now and get through this."

"That's right, just one stone. We'll report to the teacher later, and he'll get what's coming!"

With previous examples, the remaining boys, though resentful, accepted Fang Yuan's extortion.

"Wait a moment." As they were about to leave, Fang Yuan stopped them.

"Fang Yuan, are you going back on your word?" The boys tensed up.

Fang Yuan sighed lightly, "Do you think I'd squat down and search each of them?"

The boys paused, realizing the implication, their faces reddening as they hesitated.

Fang Yuan narrowed his eyes at them.

A cold glint flashed, and the five boys felt a chill, their scalps tingling.

"Alright, Fang Yuan, we get it."

"We'll help you this time."

Under Fang Yuan's intimidation, they reluctantly searched the fallen boys' purses, taking one Primordial Stone from each and gathering them for Fang Yuan.

With fifty-seven students in total, each extorted for one stone, Fang Yuan now had fifty-six stones.

He originally had twenty stones but spent ten on a few jars of Green Bamboo Wine. Adding his stipend and rewards, he now had seventy-nine Primordial Stones.

"Robbery and extortion, this costless trade is the most profitable," Fang Yuan thought, tucking the suddenly bulging purse into his robe and swaggering away.

Leaving behind a field of boys sprawled on the ground.

Among them was Fang Zheng, staring blankly at Fang Yuan's departing figure.

"Quick, get moving."

"Be quick, make sure the young masters are taken care of."

"Where's the Healing Gu Master? Hurry and get over here!"

The guards shouted, rushing forward, eager to impress. All for the small position of captain, they were full of zeal.
