Chapter 15 – Forbidden Legacy

Su Baiye watched helplessly as his ID was changed to [Explosive Dragon Baby Wants a Hug], feeling an urge to cry but having no tears to shed.

"Fuck, what the hell is this name!"

This name didn't match his vibe at all!

Maybe I should just use my real name...

Compared to such an embarrassing name, Su Baiye would rather face the Level 5 Wanted Notice...

Su Baiye hesitated for a moment but decided to use it for now. If it really became unbearable, he could buy a few Anonymity Tools at the Talent Market to cover it up.

He read through the strategy guide from the Newbie Gift Pack one more time, making sure he hadn't missed anything before putting it away.

Su Baiye looked up at the Notice Board. It was said that the strategies published by the Strategy Group were sold here. You get what you pay for. However, if you wanted a loan, you had to go to the Service Group's main hall...

Going to the Service Group was out of the question, and with a huge sum of 5,000 points in hand, Su Baiye didn't need a loan anyway.

A thought popped into Su Baiye's head.

"Why not check the Notice Board first?"

The moment that thought arose, Su Baiye's soul left his body. His eyes were filled with confusion.

"Damn? I'm dead just like that!"

How did I die?!

That's not right! This is the Free Market, supposedly the safest place in the Lost Carriages. How could I die here?!

Filled with questions, Su Baiye quietly watched how he had brought about his own death.

Su Baiye walked up to the Notice Board and opened it.

The contents of the board unfolded. Unexpectedly, there were no strategies here. Instead, it was filled with densely packed text, most of which Su Baiye couldn't recognize. Reading this text was safe.

Until... Su Baiye saw Chinese characters.

[Introduction to Forbidden Knowledge], Author—Golden Dragon King

Viewing Permission: Those who have completed the Carriage No. 1 Challenge Task.

This was a trap set just for me!

Su Baiye wanted to close his eyes, but it was too late. In the replay, the Forbidden Knowledge unfolded before him.

[First, do not revive! Do not revive! Do not revive! Revival is the Lost Train's way of assimilating you, a step-by-step slide into the abyss...]

[Second, the spirit and the flesh must not be too disparate. A balance of power must be maintained. If spiritual power is too strong, the body will gradually be converted into spiritual nutrients, eventually shedding its shell completely to become a purely spiritual entity, and vice versa. An imbalance of power will lead to becoming an unconscious shell or an incorporeal soul...]

[Third...]

As the "Su Baiye" in the replay read the third piece of Forbidden Knowledge, blood began to pour from his seven orifices, his hair stood on end, his pupils rolled back, and his entire body started to break down, disintegrating like sand...

Only seven seconds had passed!

In just seven seconds, a piece of Forbidden Knowledge had killed him right before his own eyes!

Strangely, the Soul Out of Body experience didn't end immediately. Su Baiye waited another three seconds, watching the corpse on the ground vanish in a flash before his soul returned to his body.

The moment his soul returned, Su Baiye was instantly drenched in sweat, as if he had just been pulled out of water. He subconsciously took two steps back, away from the Notice Board.

Su Baiye was certain of one thing:

The stuff in there... could kill him!

...

Lost Train, Fifth Layer, Carriage No. 10.

In the endless darkness, a vast consciousness slowly awakened as a piece of information came in.

[You have imparted a piece of Forbidden Knowledge to the Player 'Explosive Dragon Baby Wants a Hug', +50,000 Points]

[You have imparted a piece of Forbidden Knowledge to the Player 'Explosive Dragon Baby Wants a Hug', +50,000 Points]

[Sufficient Points. Item activated. Reviving...]

The vast consciousness, slowly awakening, returned to the carriage with an unrivaled aura and... a hint of confusion.

"This is earlier than my planned revival... Who disrupted my plans... Where did these 100,000 points come from?"

Beyond the confusion, there was also a trace of anger!

This Revival was not perfect. The revival item it had prepared had not yet matured; instead, it had inexplicably gained enough points, causing the Train to revive it directly using those points!

For a top-tier powerhouse, this was bad news. Being revived with points was equivalent to being assimilated by the Train!

The Golden Dragon King quickly traced the source of the points.

"Oh, it's the Forbidden Knowledge I left in a first-layer carriage? When did I leave behind a forbidden legacy?"

Leaving Forbidden Knowledge on the first layer was originally meant to trap others. It never expected that in trapping someone else, it had trapped itself...

How ridiculous is that?

Gaining an extra 100,000 points would be a wonderful thing at any other time, but in a state of "dead but not yet returned," the points became a poison.

The Golden Dragon King trapped someone with Forbidden Knowledge, and the points sent by that person in turn trapped it. In a sense, it was karma.

They were even...

Its mountain-sized golden pupils sank into recollection. The newly revived mind had too many things to process and was running a bit sluggishly.

"I remember now. That Forbidden Knowledge can only be seen by someone who clears Carriage No. 1 in one life and also completes the Challenge Task. The Humans... have another one with strange abilities, do they?"

Clearing Carriage No. 1 in one life is a three-in-a-hundred-thousand chance. But adding the Challenge Task on top of that makes it a three-in-ten-million probability...

This sort of thing can't be explained by luck.

Even so, a being like this always seemed to pop up among the Humans every once in a while.

What was the last one's name? Yuan something? The Golden Dragon King couldn't quite remember.

"No matter. As long as he opens the Notice Board, he will see this Forbidden Knowledge, and its contents will cause his mind to collapse, killing him.

"His corpse will be transported to Carriage No. 1 and branded with the 'Curse of Undeath'..."

The trap the Golden Dragon King had casually left behind back then was, in the truest sense, an all-in-one service—a fatal one with no recourse.

The enormous golden pupils blinked. Its thoughts grew clearer, and having made a decision, it sent out a message.

"Tell those ants on the lowest layer to lock down all Even-Numbered Carriages and forbid any Humans from moving between them. Send someone to the first layer's Carriage No. 2 and capture this person for me!"

Someone who can clear the Carriage No. 1 Challenge Task in one life... absolutely cannot be left alone!

At least, not among the Humans!

Such a talent should be making a greater contribution to the myriad races. Being a Human is a waste of his potential. If he's willing to cooperate, we'll turn him into a Dragonborn first...

If his aptitude is good enough, it's not out of the question for him to become a Pure-blooded Dragon Clan member.

The order was passed down and soon received a reply. A respectful voice responded,

"Your Majesty, your orders have been carried out... May I ask, what is the ID of the Player we are to capture?"

Without an ID, were they supposed to bring up everyone from Carriage No. 1?

The cost of doing so would be far too high.

Although those Humans were as lowly as ants, the transportation costs were exceptionally high. It was simply not worth bringing them to this noble, sacred ground...

The Golden Dragon King remembered that capturing these ants required their number, which was their game ID.

After all, in the eyes of the Dragon Clan, all Humans looked the same, with height and build being the only major distinctions...

Humans were quite skilled at naming, always coming up with names that were both cool and stylish. Not like the Dragon Clan, where a dragon king was just named after the color of their scales—unbelievably crude.

The Golden Dragon King began to recall the Human's game ID.

And then, it saw...

[Explosive Dragon Baby Wants a Hug]

"Huh?"

For the first time, an emotion called "shock" appeared in its placid golden pupils. The "pupil-quake" caused the surrounding space to ripple, and even the carriage shook twice.

Is that a name a human could come up with?!

The Golden Dragon King was utterly astonished, a single doubt rising in its mind:

"Is this thing even human?"
