Chapter 13 – Battle Against the Boar King

Wu Shaochen stared blankly at the auction house. Was it really that fast? I just confirmed it, and before I could even lift my hand, it was gone. Was my price too low, or do the rich just have too much money?

Those canvas shoes were the first item he got from defeating a sea turtle, and he had been wearing them ever since. He had just replaced them with a pair he got from a toad and thought of listing them for ten thousand to see if anyone would buy them. If no one wanted them, he would lower the price, after all, they were second-hand shoes he had worn, and he didn't want to rip anyone off.

It seems I underestimated the value of equipment. Who would have thought second-hand shoes would be so in demand?

He glanced at the newly acquired Toad Boots: Movement Speed +5, Defense +3, bringing his movement speed to 35 and defense to 18. Very nice, time to keep hunting.

For the next two hours, Wu Shaochen diligently farmed toads, defeating a total of 77 and finally leveling up to level 6. During this time, he acquired three pieces of equipment.

[Toad Belt]: Health +40, Defense +4

[Toad Helmet]: Health +40, Defense +4

[Toad Ring]: Health +20, Physical Attack +8, Attack Speed +1%

He decided to keep the ring for himself because it added 20 health points, rather than selling it.

He listed the Wild Boar Belt and Wild Boar Helmet on the auction house for a 10-minute bid.

Ten minutes later, both items were sold, each fetching a price of 30,000.

As players level up and gear up, level 6 Wild Boar equipment doesn't offer as much of an advantage anymore.

"Finally managed to buy one. I didn't expect the price of blank slate equipment to still be so high even after the server has been open for so long," said a veiled woman with a sigh of relief.

"Yes, now everyone knows that even blank equipment can have varying attributes, so naturally, high-attribute gear is priced higher. But it won't be too outrageous; as players level up and gear up, prices will soon drop. Equipment in the Novice Village changes every hour," Uncle Liu explained beside her.

"I wonder what kind of person can take down such high-level monsters. Could it be a large group using sheer numbers?" the woman pondered.

"Impossible. If it were a large group, it would be very noticeable, and they would need the equipment themselves, leaving nothing to sell. I believe the team selling the equipment is no more than five people, possibly even just one," Uncle Liu analyzed.

The woman nodded in agreement, her mind inadvertently recalling a fleeting figure she had seen before.

"Right, he seemed to have come from the direction of the Wild Boar Forest!" she suddenly realized.

"Could it be him?" she thought to herself. No matter what, she decided to pay close attention if she encountered this person again.

Meanwhile, Wu Shaochen was completely unaware that he had caught someone's attention. He was currently reviewing his upgraded attributes and pondering how to allocate his 5 attribute points.

"Let's put these 5 points into Physique. For now, I'll focus on the Boar King. My speed is sufficient, and adding 5 points to Physique will increase my health to 400, allowing me to naturally recover 4 points per second. Otherwise, even with 399 health, I'd only recover 3 points per second."

He allocated the five attribute points to Physique, bringing his health to exactly 400. He glanced at the potions in his backpack; there were originally 9 bottles, and he had just obtained 6 more, totaling 15 Red Potions. He felt ready to take on the Boar King, a boss he had been eyeing for a long time.

He mentally reviewed the Boar King's attributes: 250 attack, with his defense at 20, it would deal 230 damage to him. In 50 seconds, he could recover 200 health, so it shouldn't be a problem. He was very familiar with Savage Charge and dodging it shouldn't be difficult. As long as he stayed away during its Frenzy, he would be fine. The only concern was if the poison wore off during the 30-second Frenzy, but there was nothing he could do about that. At worst, he would just have to fight a bit longer.

"Alright, let's do this," Wu Shaochen decided and headed towards the Boar King's location.

Seeing the massive form of the Boar King again, Wu Shaochen felt a bit intimidated. Despite his improved attributes, the sense of oppression was still there.

He slowly approached the Boar King, soon entering its aggro range. The Boar King let out a roar and charged at him with a Savage Charge.

"Damn, why is the wind-up different?" Wu Shaochen quickly dodged. When fighting regular boars, they would scrape their front hooves twice before using the skill. But the Boar King didn't scrape; it roared instead. Fortunately, his extensive experience with boars had conditioned him to react to Savage Charge, so he managed to dodge it.

Taking advantage of the Boar King's brief pause after using its skill, Wu Shaochen turned and slashed at its rear, then quickly retreated, watching the 23-point damage numbers appear over the Boar King's head as he calculated how long it would take to kill it.

Under normal circumstances, it would take about half an hour to poison it to death. However, during its 30-second Frenzy, he couldn't get close, and he had to consider the poison wearing off during that time. With the Boar King's 50,000 health, it could recover 500 per second, which made things tricky. But he would deal with it when the time came. If necessary, he would endure some damage to reapply the poison, especially since he had potions.

Wu Shaochen carefully kited the Boar King, constantly dodging its Savage Charge. Each time he dodged, he would land a hit. For three minutes, the Boar King couldn't touch Wu Shaochen, and finally, it became enraged.

"Roar!"

With a mighty roar, the entire boar stood upright, its height surpassing three meters, and it pounded its chest with its front hooves before charging at Wu Shaochen again.

"Wow, that's impressive. Good thing it doesn't increase its speed, or this would be impossible," Wu Shaochen thought. He calculated that the poison had 28 seconds left, so it didn't matter. After the poison ended, it would take 10 seconds before it could start recovering health, so he let it rage for a while.

And so, the Boar King seemed to be completely under Wu Shaochen's control. All its tactics were ineffective since it couldn't catch up. Although Savage Charge didn't have the two-scrape wind-up, it did roar, and with his deep understanding of the skill, dodging it wasn't difficult, especially with his 35 movement speed.

During this time, the Boar King entered Frenzy six times, and only once did it happen just as the poison was about to end. Wu Shaochen endured the damage and landed another hit, losing 355 health. The 50% attack speed increase wasn't enough for the Boar King to land a second hit before Wu Shaochen could escape, unless it could attack twice per second. So, in the end, Wu Shaochen managed to escape without any real danger.

After more than half an hour, the Boar King's health dropped to 10%, and it activated its final survival skill. However, it was useless, as it stood there foolishly for 10 seconds without recovering any health. Among all the Boar Kings in the Novice Village, this one was probably the most unfortunate.
