Chapter 24 – War God Hall

Wu Shaochen quickly finished his meal and returned home, putting on his helmet to log back into the game. Time was of the essence, and he couldn't afford to waste any. To be stronger than others in the game, he had to work harder than them. While the wealthy players had game storage and didn't need to log off, he could only grind tirelessly.

Logging back in, he found himself still standing in the Job Transfer Hall of Jinling City. The first thing he did was check his backpack; he hadn't yet looked at the two skill books the system had rewarded him with. Seeing the two books in his backpack, especially the golden one, made Wu Shaochen's breath quicken, sweeping away his previous frustrations.

[Immortal Body] Special Passive Skill (Unique): For every monster killed that is not below your level, your maximum health permanently increases by 1 point.

"This is definitely a skill on par with my talent, and it's a unique skill. It seems even the heavens want me to rise. An assassin's burst is already terrifying, but what if this assassin is as tough as a Shield Guard? How desperate would that make my opponents feel?"

If he were to sell this, the price would be unimaginable. But a skill like this definitely couldn't be sold; it's a unique skill, after all. He wasn't short on money now, so selling it was out of the question. Trembling, he took the invaluable skill book from his backpack and silently learned it. Seeing the skill appear in his skill bar finally put his mind at ease. Without learning it, it felt too much like a dream. He then looked at the other skill book in his backpack:

[Void]: Clears all negative effects on oneself, entering a void space where you cannot be targeted, lasting one second. Mana cost: 100, Cooldown: 5 minutes. Learning requirement: Assassin.

Another god-tier skill! Wu Shaochen quickly learned it. Either of these skills was priceless, making it worth dragging his hungry body to claim first place.

After learning this skill, combined with the two basic assassin skills, his skill bar now had six skills.

[Insight]: Allows viewing of monster information up to 10 levels higher than oneself, no cost, no cooldown.

[Speed]: Increases movement speed and attack speed by 50% for 30 seconds. Mana cost: 50, Cooldown: 2 minutes.

[Stealth]: Enters an invisible state, reducing movement speed by 30%, lasting 5 minutes, consuming 1 mana per second. Cooldown: 1 minute. Attacking, being attacked, or being touched will break invisibility, which can also be manually deactivated. Note: Bosses 10 levels higher or regular monsters 30 levels higher can see through invisibility. Additionally, an archer's Eagle Eye can also see through it.

[Backstab]: Attacks from behind the target, dealing 150% physical damage and ignoring 50% of the target's defense. Mana cost: 30, Cooldown: 30 seconds.

[Immortal Body] Special Passive Skill (Unique): For every monster killed that is not below your level, your maximum health permanently increases by 1 point.

[Void]: Clears all negative effects on oneself, entering a void space where you cannot be targeted, lasting one second. Mana cost: 100, Cooldown: 5 minutes.

Looking at these skills, Wu Shaochen was itching to go monster hunting immediately, but he held back. He needed to explore the main city first and see if there were any quests available.

Wu Shaochen walked out of the Job Transfer Hall and onto the street, noticing that the buildings along the main street were mostly everyday necessities, like weapon shops, clothing shops, jewelry shops, pharmacies, and general stores.

When Wu Shaochen entered the weapon shop and checked the goods for sale, his face instantly darkened. Damn it, they're stealing business! They were selling all kinds of blank slate equipment here, which meant he wouldn't be able to sell his white equipment anymore.

Fortunately, he had already dealt with his white equipment in the Novice Village and made the money he needed. Thinking about it, he let it go. It didn't matter anymore, especially since white equipment above level 10 had level requirements. Players probably wouldn't care for white equipment in the future either.

Besides buying and selling weapons, the weapon shop also offered the chance to learn the life skill of weapon crafting. Once learned, you could craft your own weapons. Each player could learn up to three life skills, but Wu Shaochen didn't plan to learn any. They were too time-consuming, especially in the early stages, costing both money and time, and the crafted equipment wasn't great. He'd rather spend the time killing a few bosses.

He assumed the clothing and jewelry shops were similar. At the general store, he bought two Town Return Scrolls, each costing 10 Silver Coins, which he thought was a rip-off. Then he noticed a Map Scroll priced at 1 Gold Coin.

"What the heck is so expensive?" Wu Shaochen looked over:

[Map Scroll]: Activates the map function upon use. This scroll records the distribution of monsters within a 10-kilometer radius of Jinling City.

"Damn, I wondered why this game didn't have a map. Luckily, the Novice Village wasn't big, or I'd have gotten lost. Turns out you have to buy a [Map Scroll] to activate it. 1 Gold Coin, what a rip-off."

Despite his words, Wu Shaochen bought it without hesitation. After all, he was carrying a fortune of over ninety Gold Coins, and every player needed this item.

After purchasing and using the scroll, the map function lit up in the functional area. Upon opening it, the map information and monster details within a 10-kilometer radius were displayed, while everything beyond was blacked out, requiring exploration. The map would automatically light up and record areas the player had traversed.

"Not bad, worth the price," Wu Shaochen murmured to himself, continuing to explore Jinling City. Jinling City was vast, with not only functional NPC areas but also NPC residential areas, home to a variety of NPCs, some of whom might offer special quests. However, there were many NPC residents, and few offered quests, so it was a matter of luck and chance. Special quest rewards were generally quite good.

Then there was the Player Trading Zone, where players could set up stalls and trade freely without transaction fees, much more considerate than the Auction House. There were also shops for sale, allowing players to sell equipment without being present, more convenient than setting up stalls. However, shops required Gold Coins to purchase, and they were extremely expensive. Truth be told, Wu Shaochen did want to buy a shop, as it would save a lot on transaction fees by selling equipment there. But after learning that they started at over ten thousand Gold Coins, he dismissed the idea, finding the Auction House more convenient.

After that, there were the Arena, Tavern, and Lord's Mansion, which left Wu Shaochen dazzled.

As he walked, he came upon a massive building on par with the Job Transfer Hall, with the words "War God Hall" written above it.

Curious, Wu Shaochen entered. Inside the enormous War God Hall stood lifelike statues on either side, with a passageway in the middle leading to a vortex gate at the end.

Wu Shaochen approached a statue of a middle-aged man, which bore the inscription:

In the Holy Light Calendar year 356, Grib War God single-handedly slew dozens of Star-Glory Grade Beasts and held off an Immortal Grade Beast for two full hours before perishing. He was posthumously titled War God and enshrined in the War God Hall.

He then moved to another statue of a noble-looking woman with silver hair, reading the inscription:

In the Holy Light Calendar year 487, Silver Ice Mage transformed herself into a forbidden spell, freezing three thousand miles, sealing the Sin Demon Lord and his million-strong beast army in ice, making a tremendous contribution to human survival. She was posthumously titled Mage and enshrined in the War God Hall.
