Vol.1 - Chapter 11 – The night road, it is better to go alone

With a creak, the factory gate was pushed open.

The fresh air outside was mixed with the oppressive feeling brought by the pouring rain, rushing towards him.

The raindrops fell on the ground with a clatter, without the barrier of reinforced concrete and glass windows, giving Yu Xing a sense of clarity in an instant.

After listening to the sound of rain for a long time... he got used to it.

He looked up at the dark clouds in the sky, then lowered his gaze, his eyes indifferent.

In the sparsely populated suburban area at night, with no stars or lights, the road ahead disappeared in the indistinguishable darkness.

"Do you have someone to pick you up?" A cold voice came from behind.

Zhao Yijiu calmly stood beside Yu Xing, his bleeding had slowed down a lot, but it would be best for him to seek medical attention soon.

Or... Yu Xing guessed that the other party had more than one senior deductionist, and those people might have effective offerings to treat specter injuries.

"No, oh... Do you have someone to pick you up? You better hurry." Yu Xing turned his head and saw the other person's wound. He didn't say much, bending down to pick up his own black umbrella from the side. "The rain is so heavy, be careful not to worsen your wound."

"I will. Here." Zhao Yijiu handed something over.

Yu Xing looked down and saw the small knife.

He didn't take it, a hint of a smile appeared at the corner of his eye. "I changed my mind, let's see another time. I'm tired now."

Tired?

Zhao Yijiu repeated in his mind subconsciously, finding it hard to believe.

This person's skills were so good, obviously trained, and he must have done a lot of physical activity. How could he get tired so easily?

But obviously, Yu Xing didn't care about the doubts in his mind. He raised his hand and reached out to the outside of the eaves.

It can be hard to make great work when its stolen from "pawread dot com".

Hmm, the rain seemed to have lessened a bit.

"By the way, are you really a recent graduate?" Zhao Yijiu couldn't help but ask.

"Of course," Yu Xing turned his head to look at him, as if it was a matter of course. "No."

"..."

"I have a friend at Rui Bo University, as for myself... that's all." Yu Xing smiled like a cat looking for a fight.

Zhao Yijiu:... Forget it, he has told so many lies, one more won't make a difference.

After folding the umbrella, Yu Xing planned to leave.

"This road is a bit long, taxis can't come in. You can ride with me, it's not far, and there's a driver." Zhao Yijiu watched as Yu Xing opened the umbrella with a snap. His face was even paler than midnight, and he didn't hesitate to make the invitation.

After all, he had saved him once, so it was only right to help him with this small favor.

And... looking like this, no matter how many lies Yu Xing told, it seemed that his physical condition was indeed not good. Perhaps he had recently fallen ill?

His invitation was reasonable and timely.

But after thinking for a moment, Yu Xing stretched his leg and stepped into the rain with the umbrella.

He didn't look back, his figure seemed a bit thin, and a bit casual.

"It's better to walk this night road alone..."

Although the tone was teasing, Zhao Yijiu sensed a faint chill in it.

Yu Xing's footsteps gradually merged with the sound of raindrops and gradually moved away. It was only then that Zhao Yijiu realized that he had been rejected.

Well, this person doesn't appreciate it.

He took out his phone and sent a text message, then put away the umbrella he had left behind and left the factory. But when he was about to put his phone back, he suddenly remembered that he didn't have Yu Xing's contact information.

"..."

A hint of confusion appeared in Zhao Yijiu's usually gloomy eyes.

Didn't he say he wanted to see his knife another time?

Without contact information...

Forget it, there will be opportunities to meet in the future. He owed Yu Xing his life, so he should help him with something else to repay him.

...

The surroundings were desolate and indistinguishable. Yu Xing's eyes had long adapted to the darkness, and even without turning on the flashlight, he was able to walk smoothly.

Seeing that there was finally no one around, his body began to tremble uncontrollably.

Taking a deep breath, he took out his phone, opened WeChat, and sent a message to the top contact.

san: Track my phone and come pick me up.

The other side replied instantly.

Z: On my way.

Obviously, he had fooled Zhao Yijiu again...

In his current state, even if he didn't walk back, he would probably collapse on the road if he got rained on.

How could he not find someone to pick him up in advance?

After receiving the reply, Yu Xing put his phone back in his pocket and squatted down, covering his stuffy chest.

Due to the angle, his black hair covered his expression. A trickle of red blood silently seeped out from the corner of his mouth, dripping onto the ground and blending into the puddles.

The taste of rust instantly filled his mouth, both fishy and bitter.

He took out a tissue from his pocket and wiped it, muttering to himself, "I'm too weak, it's troublesome."

Fortunately, the person named Z on WeChat didn't make him wait too long. Just over a minute later, a motorcycle approached from a distance with a roar.

The rider wore a black helmet and a navy blue long-sleeved jacket. A transparent plastic raincoat covered her, and her long hair peeked out from under the helmet. She had a slender figure and looked like a woman.

The motorcycle stopped beside Yu Xing without splashing water on him. The rider lifted the helmet visor, revealing half of a beautiful face. She got off the motorcycle and exclaimed, "Oh, why do you look like this? Is it dangerous here?"

"It's fine, not dangerous, I'm just tired." Yu Xing slowly stood up, naturally handing the umbrella to the other person to hold for him, and took the raincoat and helmet handed to him from the trunk.

After she put away the umbrella, the girl walked towards the motorcycle with him. She patted the back seat and said, "Get on!"

Yu Xing smoothly got on the motorcycle, thinking that he could finally sit down and rest for a while.

The girl started the engine and sped towards the city. Her voice came through the rain and engine noise, sounding a bit muffled and indistinct from inside the helmet.

"Yu Xing, don't forget to come to our school celebration the day after tomorrow... Hold on tight, or you'll fall off!"

Yu Xing smiled. "I won't fall off, don't worry."

"Oh, then, the celebration..."

The girl seemed quite persistent about this matter. She noticed that Yu Xing didn't seem very interested, and her voice carried a hint of grievance.

"All the other kids have parents or friends to go with them, I'm the only one who doesn't~ Let me tell you, the celebration at Rui Bo University is so much fun, why don't you come...?"

"Hiss... Isn't it inappropriate for me to be your dad?" Yu Xing started teasing again.

"Who said you're my dad!?"

"Then what's the meaning of your tone, as if no one went to the parent-teacher meeting when you were a child?"

"..." The girl suddenly fell silent, and after about ten seconds, she forced herself to sound annoyed. "The investigation you asked me to do on the Wang Group has results. I have a feeling that it involves a big case. Will you come and accompany me the day after tomorrow?"

Knowing that she had something important to discuss, Yu Xing didn't tease her anymore and said, "I'll go."

"Hehe." The girl stopped talking after achieving her goal. After sending Yu Xing here before midnight, she had been waiting under the eaves of a nearby building, always waiting for a message from Yu Xing. Now that he seemed tired, she didn't plan to disturb him.

Unexpectedly, a few minutes later, Yu Xing took the initiative to speak. "Zhu Yan."

"What's wrong?" Zhu Yan was surprised.

"Next time you ride a motorcycle, it's better not to wear a short skirt. Look, it's flipped up."

This statement sounded both sincere and deserving of a beating.

Zhu Yan was already used to it, and she didn't lower her head. "There are safety shorts even if it flips up, can't you stand it... I won't wear it next time."

"Not wearing safety shorts?"

"Damn it, I mean not wearing a short skirt!"

...

The next day.

After several days of rain, it finally stopped in the morning. The rain gradually became sparse, and by noon, it had completely cleared up.

Mijin City finally welcomed a sunny day. The temperature rose significantly, and anyone would exclaim that the weather changed as fast as Sichuan opera.

Yu Xing was awakened by the heat.

Last night, Zhu Yan dropped him off at the apartment and left. He took a hot shower, changed into his pajamas, and wrapped himself tightly in the blanket.

He slept until noon, and his set alarm hadn't rung yet, but he couldn't stand it anymore. He woke up in the middle of trying to pull himself out of the blanket, checked the time on his phone.

12:24 PM.

He turned off the alarm that showed "Ring in six minutes," yawned, and sat up from the bed.

Although his physical condition was abnormal, he did have muscle definition.

After the blanket slid down, his firm chest and abs were revealed. He wasn't the bulky type, so he looked a bit thin when wearing clothes.

He pressed his temples hard, got out of bed, washed up, and recalled last night's test. A pleased smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

His physical strength had recovered, and those miserable symptoms that appeared and disappeared quickly as long as there was no intense gloom like the one from last night wouldn't make him weak like that.

So... he could start the personality mask evaluation game.

Stretching lazily, Yu Xing summoned the personality mask template that was missing everywhere in his consciousness and read the last paragraph again.

"I also want to see what I would be like in this personality evaluation. Heh~"

Presumably, after becoming a deductionist, his life wouldn't be so boring anymore.

The things he wanted and the things he wanted to accomplish wouldn't be too far away.

Yu Xing stopped dawdling, and after washing up, he chose to start the game immediately in his consciousness.

【Are you sure you want to start the personality mask evaluation deduction?】

"Mhm~"

【Entering deduction in twenty seconds】

【The following is the information for this deduction game】

Line after line of translucent red small characters appeared in the upper right corner of his field of vision.

【Small-scale deduction: Corpse Carnival】

【Type: 60% role-playing】

【Analysis: In a role-playing deduction, the deductionist will take on existing roles in a absurd world, inheriting the identity and interpersonal relationships of the character. 【This deduction game is a single-player game】

【This deduction game will take up real-time, please set aside 3 hours】

After reading the information, Yu Xing waited for a while, and twenty seconds quietly passed.

In the next moment, everything in front of him was swallowed by darkness, including himself.
