Vol.3 - Chapter 21 – Yu's analysis

Yu Xing turned his head and met the gaze of York and Martha.

York was interested, while Martha looked confused.

"Is there any investigation results to share?" York invited for information exchange again.

This time, the system did not obstruct and used physical strength to proceed.

The three of them left the empty hall and entered York's room.

The layout of York's room was the same as Yu Xing's room, but there were no oil paintings, so he didn't pay much attention and casually sat on the edge of the bed.

After closing the door, Martha, who had temporarily bid farewell to the threat of the specter, visibly relaxed. She took a deep breath and lay down on York's bed, expressing the fear she had suppressed when dealing with Mr. Brown. She refused to move.

York kindly gave up the bed and moved a chair to sit down. All three of them were wearing pajamas, and at first glance, it looked like they were having a pajama party.

He remembered their roles and cleared his throat, saying, "The Brown family clearly has a problem. After today's contact, I can confirm that there is something supernatural going on here."

"Reconsider." Martha raised her hand and sat cross-legged. "I believe that one of these four people has been possessed by a specter. Only when their minds are invaded by a specter will they behave abnormally."

They were both exorcists, while Yu Xing was the detective commissioned to investigate, so their words were just a reference and Yu Xing would decide on the follow-up investigation plan.

The system had already assigned their roles in the character settings. York and Martha could be used as sacrifices in deduction, and they were capable of defending themselves.

On the other hand, Yu Xing lacked the protection of a sacrifice and was the most vulnerable, but he had the greatest authority.

Yu Xing leaned against the head of the bed and nodded, hugging his arms. "Since you are both so certain, then let's handle it as a supernatural event. Let's gather the clues and I will formulate tomorrow's plan based on the analysis of the information."

"Okay." York and Martha agreed, and then they each recounted their experiences after entering the room.

First was York.

After playing chess with Alex, he also went back to his room and slept for about an hour. When he woke up, he found that the oil painting in the room seemed different from when he first entered.

Just as York was about to speak, Yu Xing interrupted him.

It turned out that there was also an oil painting in York's room. Yu Xing raised an eyebrow. "What about the painting?"

York said, "That's what I was going to say. I don't like someone watching me sleep, so I took the painting..."

He took the painting and walked out of the room. Mrs. Brown was telling Susan a story by the fireplace at eight o'clock, and now it was past nine o'clock and the mother and daughter had gone to the kitchen.

He noticed that Susan's room door was slightly open, so he casually threw the painting into Susan's room without any burden. After throwing it, he patted his butt and left, ready to see if there were any other plans in the room to target him. He searched around but didn't find anything else, so he used a cross to exorcise himself.

After that, he stayed in the room and made other preparations. He woke up Martha after eleven o'clock and wanted to go out together to investigate.

Martha's experience was simpler. When she saw the oil painting in the room, she was terrified. She stuck a circle of yellow talismans on the frame to forcibly suppress the restless specter inside. She stared at it and couldn't sleep.

After who knows how long, she finally fell asleep and slept until York knocked on the door.

In other words, the two of them mainly dealt with the painting in the room and were involved in the incident where Mr. Brown rushed down to grab Susan.

After listening to this, Yu Xing also recounted his own discoveries, focusing on several relationships of the Browns and mentioning the dolls in the room and the speculation that the figures in the painting were restrained by the dolls.

Since entering the Brown family, the hints from the deduction seemed scattered and fragmented, but as long as they were organized, there would be great gains.

He said, "I believe that there are only five problems we need to solve."

York became interested and asked, "Tell us more."

"First, among the five members of the Brown family, who is the specter and who is human."

Martha agreed deeply. She didn't want to be with a specter.

"On this point, we can only rely on observation for now. To truly differentiate, we need more direct clues." Yu Xing looked serious at this moment. In fact, whenever he spoke in long paragraphs, he would put away his joking tone and appear more serious.

When he was serious, others would be afraid and listen attentively.

"Second, how many factions have formed among them."

"Factions?" Martha, with her chubby baby face, looked puzzled, as if she was thinking and recalling why the concept of factions would appear. York, on the other hand, seemed to be pondering.

Yu Xing nodded. "Yes, factions. Like I said, Mr. Brown has an obvious antagonistic relationship with Mrs. Brown and Susan. Let's assume these three people belong to two factions, one for Mr. Brown and one for Mrs. Brown and Susan."

On this basis, Alex was in a position where he didn't support anyone. He disliked Susan and was not close to his mother, but he didn't help Mr. Brown either. He even watched the scene where Mr. Brown was thrown back into the room as if he was just joining in the fun.

He had clearly expressed his liking for Angel, and Mrs. Brown refused to mention Angel, so it could be basically determined that Alex and the missing Angel represented the third faction.

The three factions had different emotions and different desires. As long as this was clear, the subsequent investigation would be more targeted. For example, when Yu Xing spoke to Alex just now, he deliberately showed suspicion towards Mrs. Brown, making Alex look more favorably upon him and agreeing to chat during the day.

"Third, who does the doll and the oil painting in the house belong to."

Upon hearing this, York already understood. The doll and the oil painting belonged to two different factions. They both wanted to harm the players, but they restrained each other, so neither succeeded.

Martha was quite proactive and tried her best to keep up with Yu Xing and York's thinking. "You said Mr. Brown can paint, so shouldn't he be the one controlling the figures in the painting?""Mr. Brown is so afraid of strangers that he fears Mrs. Brown will misunderstand him for fooling around. How could such a person paint such revealing oil paintings?" Yu Xing recalled the figure in the painting and clicked his tongue.

He remembered Mrs. Brown's controlling position in the house: "Considering that Mr. and Mrs. Brown live in the same room, I'm more inclined to believe that Mrs. Brown allowed him to paint, and then she herself controlled the person in the painting."

"From this, we know that Mrs. Brown and Susan's faction control the person in the painting, and Mr. Brown is suppressed. Therefore, the doll that can make the person in the painting fearful comes from Angel and Alex's faction. Combined with the 'Doll Making Manual' in Angel's room, the doll is most likely to belong to Angel."

York listened to him with a smile, like a salted fish that didn't need to use its brain.

Martha calculated it and found that it was indeed the case. She breathed a sigh of relief, and once again, it was great to have a boss. She could cling to his coattails again.

She asked, "What about the fourth question?"
