Vol.3 - Chapter 33 – Flame and Madman

Angel's tone didn't sound like she was talking to her beloved younger brother from the legends. Her voice was flat, as if Alex was just a stranger to her.

No, that's not quite right. Her numbness was enough for Yu Xing to feel the despair and deadness in her mind.

Having her identity exposed by Angel, Alex, who was panicked a second ago because the door was closed and the way back was blocked, immediately put on a wicked look.

The young man, who looked just of age, smiled slightly and walked up to her, flicking the silk that was binding Angel's neck.

He said lightly, "Yes, Angel, these are the last three."

Then he looked up. "I'm sorry, esteemed exorcists, but your adventure game ends here."

Yu Xing: "..."

York: "Tsk."

"Wait, what?" Martha was confused for a moment, then a mix of anger and fear surged up.

Oh my god, Alex is a wizard? She couldn't wrap her head around it. No, no, the most important thing is, what does it mean that they are the last three?

A look appeared on Alex's face that didn't quite match his handsome features. It was like a venomous snake biting its prey, not killing it immediately, but enjoying the struggle after injecting the venom.

Then he frowned.

These three people didn't seem as panicked as he had imagined. Roy and York even had a hint of smugness on their faces, which annoyed him.

He didn't want anything to go wrong at this point, so he sneered and lowered his head to the emotionless Angel. "Use your dolls to kill them, and you'll be free soon."

As soon as he finished speaking, Yu Xing heard all the dolls in the room move at once.

The cracking sound was particularly clear in the small space. Then, the dolls, which seemed to have not absorbed any human souls yet, started moving, just like the first doll Yu Xing found under the guest bed. As long as you kept your gaze on them, the dolls wouldn't move.

But the problem now is... there are too many dolls here.

As soon as you focus on one area, dolls start crawling towards them from another area. Moreover, if someone blinks, the dolls in the attic are obviously much more agile than the ones below. In the blink of an eye, the dolls can get much closer.

Martha gritted her teeth and took out the last stack of yellow talisman papers, silently igniting them and throwing them into the pile of dolls.

"Boom!"

To her surprise, the flames on the yellow talisman ignited, causing a large number of dolls to panic and flee. It seems that they are afraid of this piece of talisman paper.

While Martha was stunned, Yu Xing's voice echoed softly, "The dolls are afraid of fire. Otherwise, why do you think Mrs. Brown lit the fireplace on the first floor, borrowing Mr. Brown's illness as an excuse?"

Mr. Brown is crazy and has nothing to do with warmth. So whatever Mrs. Brown wanted to lie about, it must have had a purpose.

Yu Xing had almost guessed the purpose of the fireplace as soon as he knew that Angel had learned witchcraft... In fact, it was just a defensive line on the first floor. In case a doll appeared on the first floor, she could quickly find the source of fire and drive it away.

Unfortunately, this technique didn't reach Susan's ears after Mrs. Brown disappeared in the garden. She obviously didn't know about it, otherwise she would have been able to drive away the doll called "sister" by getting close to the fireplace first.

Yu Xing had thought of all this before. Now, in the slightly cramped attic space, countless dolls were approaching them, and he didn't have the energy to think about anything else.

He took out his lighter from his pocket - a detective character smokes, although he hasn't smoked since he started playing the role, but he transferred the lighter from his handbag to his pants pocket.

Now is the time to put it to use!

He pulled over a nearby cardboard box, lit it with the lighter, and threw it into the pile of dolls. With Martha's yellow talisman thrown out, they managed to control the situation in a short time.

York raised the cross, and strands of black mist overflowed from the center of the cross. The black mist that had previously revealed Lucia's true form as a specter entered the dolls, slowing down their speed and even making them more and more stiff.

Yu Xing couldn't help but ask, "This cross is so powerful, what is it specifically used for?"

The cross is a sacrifice and won't be weakened by deduction, so even though it doesn't have much to do with countering doll magic in this deduction game, it can still function normally.

His question wasn't rude, and York had already used it. He wasn't asking for specific abilities, just curious about the general direction.

York didn't hide it either. He said, "It's for purification."

Purification is a broad category, perhaps sending specters to their final rest... can also be considered a form of purification?

But for now, it seems that the cross's purification ability does indeed purify certain impurities, such as the living appearance of the deceased Lucia, and the ghostly aura given to the dolls by Angel. The ghost's power was weakening, and naturally, the dolls would weaken as well.

The three of them had proposed a solution, while Angel sat quietly, beads of sweat seeping out of her pale skin.

Alex was not in a hurry. In his view, these three were merely resisting in vain. He had seen many people like this, unwilling to accept their fate of death, insisting on struggling in his hands.

He could see that the twin-tailed little girl was running out of talisman papers, and Roy, who thought he was smart but was actually being toyed with by him, didn't have enough combustible materials to ignite. They were about to lose their ability to resist.

The only trouble was this guy named York. The aura emanating from the cross in his hand made him uncomfortable, even fearful.

Alex picked up a few dolls and approached York.

Yellow talismans? Burning debris? None of these mattered to him. He just needed to protect these dolls, throw them at York, and the only threat would be gone.

With this thought, a sense of wild pleasure filled Alex's eyes. In his view, Roy, York, and Martha all saw his actions, but they had no energy to stop him!

He was close, very close.

Alex laughed heartily, throwing the dolls at York!

"Hahaha... Perfect, once you're dead, I can take your cross for research..."

Before he could finish his words, he saw a flash of light in front of him.

To facilitate Angel's doll-making, the attic was lit.

At this moment, the slender blade reflected the light from the ceiling, casting a crisscross of cold glimmers.

York held the cross steady in his left hand, unmoving, and drew an awkward fruit knife from his belt with his right hand. With an astonishingly agile knife technique, he cut all the dolls thrown at him in half!

Yu Xing had guessed that this man was not simple, but he didn't expect him to be so skilled. He was probably not a simple character in reality either.

He couldn't help but divert some of his attention from the dolls to York, only to see York's mouth curling into a sickly smile, his expression even crazier than Alex's, and even Susan and Mrs. Brown, who were already cold!

It was as if a group of lunatics were bullying a doctor in a white coat, only to find out that the doctor was the craziest lunatic of all. Once his true nature was revealed, he outdid all the other lunatics.

The madness in York was heart-throbbing.
