Vol.3 - Chapter 35 – One loop after another

After hearing these words, Angel's eyes widened, and a renewed vigor appeared in her eyes as she looked at "Alex".

Perhaps after being in a daze for too long, she felt a surge of anger upon hearing that her brother had died.

Because from what she knew, a wizard like him was definitely capable of such things.

The wizard finally escaped from York's knife shadows. He kicked away the obstructing doll and reached out to grab Yu Xing's arm.

Yu Xing noticed a faint black aura emanating from the wizard's palm, giving off a chilling feeling. He immediately struck back with the staff he always carried with him. The tremendous recoil made Yu Xing's hand slightly numb.

You engaged in a power struggle with the wizard. Stamina -5.

You were hit by the wizard's power backlash. Health -10.

Since entering the attic and seeing Angel, Yu Xing's stamina had been continuously decreasing in order to avoid the dolls. Although the decrease each time was not much, it had reached a point where his stamina was not in a safe state.

His health had also decreased slightly due to occasional contact with the flames.

The wizard took a step back, looking at Yu Xing in astonishment. "You have the power of a demon within you! You're not a detective at all. Who are you? Which sect do you belong to?"

Yu Xing glanced at him. "Coincidentally, I'm just an ordinary detective. I have no interest in your so-called sect."

Taking advantage of the wizard's confusion, Yu Xing turned his head and smiled at Angel, his voice carrying a bewitching power.

"Angel, you have harmed so many people, but it was all in vain. If you regret it, do you know what you should do?"

Angel clenched her teeth, her thoughts seemingly scattered.

"You also know that the three of us are the last three souls the wizard wants." Yu Xing leaned closer to her and whispered in her ear, "But do you know that among the first forty-one souls, one of them was Alex, who no longer has a body? He was... killed by you..."

"Ah!!!" These words struck at the heart. Angel screamed hoarsely, as if she was being tortured. Yu Xing stood up straight and locked eyes with the cold-hearted wizard.

At this point, it could be said that the wizard's plan had completely unraveled.

The wizard calmed down. "Angel, there are only three people left. I promise you, if you kill them, you will be free."

"What about... my brother?"

Angel had had enough. She stared at the wizard with her beautiful yet lifeless blue eyes. She already knew the answer.

The wizard sneered. "As they said. However, you don't have to value your brother too much. Once you complete what I ask of you, you will be completely free—I can completely erase your crazy genes, and you will become a normal person, living the life you want."

"I won't believe you anymore. You're a complete fraud!" Angel rejected his promise like a snake. She had already killed so many people, and even if her genes were erased, she would lose the qualification to be a normal person!

"Stranger!" she cried out miserably. "Kill me! Only by killing me and stopping the dolls can the wizard's plan completely fail! I want all his scheming during this time to be in vain!"

"Damn woman." The wizard cursed fiercely and once again reached out to grab Yu Xing.

He didn't have the energy to control Angel now. He planned to deal with these three people one by one, cutting off their limbs, slicing off their flesh, making them experience pain while still alive, and then becoming the culmination of his plan!

Yu Xing knew that he couldn't compare his stamina to that of a boss in a deduction game. He could only dodge. In the process, he accidentally pulled on the white silk connected to Angel's waist. A chilling sensation surged into his body, causing his body to stiffen. He almost got caught by the wizard.

This feeling was too familiar.

Yu Xing discreetly glanced at the small magic circles on the wall and agilely dodged once again. He shouted to York, "Cut these silks!"

Since he didn't have anything sharp on him, York with the fruit knife was the best candidate.

Licking his lips, York rushed forward with a cross in one hand and a fruit knife in the other. Almost no one could see clearly as the silks were cut into pieces in the cold light.

"No!" The wizard's unwilling anger burned fiercely, as if he wanted to merge with the combustible items in the attic.

The white silks emitted a strong ghostly aura, and black mist visibly emanated from the wizard's palm. Then, several screams, like living creatures, came from somewhere, piercing and terrifying.

Angel regained her ability to move and trembled as she covered her head. Under the stimulation of the music box's melody, she suddenly realized that the power emanating from the silks over the past few months had made her mind increasingly dull, almost turning her into a puppet who only knew how to make dolls!

With her mind now clear, Angel felt absurd. She hadn't realized many things that were wrong all this time. For example, if her brother was still alive, how could the wizard disguise himself as her brother and move around in this house?

And also... she hadn't eaten or drunk anything during this time. How could she have survived until now?She hadn't noticed it before, but once she did, the sensation of hunger surged through her body. She could clearly feel her stomach contracting into a knot, followed by her other organs, then her flesh and tissues... Every part of her body was drying out, shrinking, her throat constricting...

It hurt.

It hurt so much.

She was drying up.

"Wizard, you will pay for this." Angel mustered the last of her strength, her voice barely a whisper, to curse.

Her hand had also withered. She grabbed the nearest doll and with great difficulty, placed it on her face.

Soul Absorption!

In her final moments of turning into a mummy, Angel chose to preserve her soul in the doll using Soul Absorption.

"Clatter."

The doll fell to the ground, and Angel's body turned into a horrifying mummy.

With her gone, all the dolls quieted down, standing still.

The so-called plan of collecting forty-four souls was ruined in an instant.

Flames blazed, burning a soulless doll. One by one, the dolls were set on fire. The temperature in the attic soared, threatening to engulf everything in flames.

"So, you knew all along that I was the wizard, not Alex?" Under the high temperature, the wizard's skin, disguised as Alex, showed signs of wrinkling. He looked at the destruction around him, his gaze fixed on Yu Xing's face, as if memorizing it.

Seeing his reaction, Yu Xing knew there would be no boss fight. For them, the novice, intermediate, and advanced deductionists, finding an opportunity to destroy all the white satin in the sea of dolls had already been a difficult task. The key was to collect items like the music box.

If he hadn't used the dolls to kill Mrs. Brown in the garden, there would be an additional female ghost now.

If he hadn't torn up the birthday note for Susan in the music box, Susan wouldn't have died because of the dolls, and they wouldn't have been able to use the music box to disturb Angel in the attic.

Everything was interconnected.
