Vol.4 - Chapter 16 – Fall into the water

The cave was cold and damp, and the uneven ground made walking difficult.

Especially in the low-lying areas, there was stagnant water. Stepping on it made a "plop" sound, echoing in the dim space.

Yu Xing, as the cameraman, was protected in the middle of the team, with A Bai and Song Quan beside him.

The entrance of the cave was narrow, only allowing one person to pass through. After everyone entered, they discovered that it was actually a gourd mouth, much more spacious inside.

There was no light coming in, so they took out the head-mounted flashlights they carried with them and tied the elastic bands around their foreheads, freeing their hands.

The cave became much brighter. Yu Xing scanned his surroundings and noticed that the cave walls were covered in dark green moss. Sharp stones hung from the ceiling, dripping water from their tips.

"Stay alert and report any abnormalities immediately." A drop of water fell on Song Quan's head. He shook his head and lowered his voice.

The team members responded with a "yes." Song Quan remained silent, holding a compass-like object in his hand and moving cautiously.

"This cave is quite big, and it seems to go on forever..." After walking for about three minutes, a teammate muttered quietly.

"Not only that." Song Quan looked ahead and reminded them, "There's a fork in the road up ahead."

Yu Xing approached and saw that the path ahead split into two, left and right, with only a fist-sized stone wall separating them. It was unclear whether they would merge or completely diverge.

"Which way should we go?" A Bai asked Song Quan.

Song Quan extended his hand and let the compass in his hand spin aimlessly for a while. "Let's go left."

"Alright." Although no one understood why Song Quan chose the left path with the compass spinning continuously, it didn't stop them from giving him the decision-making power.

Both paths had to be taken, it was just a matter of which one to take first. Of course, they couldn't separate, as there was only one medical camera. The whole team had to go together, or else it would give the undead an opportunity.

Without hesitation, they entered the left fork. Suddenly, a cold wind blew from the fork, causing everyone to shiver and feel a momentary daze.

"I don't know why, but my heart feels cold as soon as we entered." A Bai joked half-seriously while carrying a medical kit.

"Don't worry, maybe there are ghosts here." Yu Xing replied.

A Bai: Great, not comforted at all.

This fork was noticeably different from the previous path. There was more stagnant water.

Yu Xing had a strong sense of space and realized that this path was going downwards. It was possible that it had rained here before or that it had been flooded by the sea, and the water had not been drained.

Before long, the water had reached their shoe soles. But that wasn't the most surprising part. After walking for a while, the cave suddenly became shorter, and the water became even deeper and denser.

"Who is good at swimming? Go and check the depth." A Bai seemed a bit reluctant towards the water. She turned to ask, and soon, a team member volunteered and walked towards the lower part of the cave.

As expected, he stepped on nothing and sank into the water. Ripples spread far and wide. The team member held his breath, adjusted his posture, and only his chest and above remained above the water.

"It's so deep!" A Bai exclaimed. The depth of the water would seriously affect their movements, making everything inconvenient.

"Do you feel anything in the water?" A Bai asked.

"No!" The teammate dared not move. Fortunately, as he calmed down, the water surface also returned to calmness, without a single ripple, proving that there was nothing approaching him in the water.

"The environment ahead is not good. I suggest not moving forward for now and try another path." A Bai's suggestion was unanimously agreed upon, even Song Quan, who chose the left path, did not object.

Seeing this, A Bai said to the team member, "Come back."

The team member breathed a sigh of relief and was about to move--

His expression suddenly turned terrified, and the next moment, a scream came out of his mouth. Everyone quickly aimed their guns, but they didn't see anything coming out of the water. They only felt that the team member seemed to be held back and sinking further.

"Help!" The team member shouted, "Shoot beside me! In the water!"

"Shoot!" A Bai immediately ordered, and bullets were fired into the water.

"Boom!"

The sound of gunfire echoed in the cave, and a small splash appeared on the water surface. At the same time, the team member in the water widened his eyes, feeling the blood hole in his forehead in disbelief.

Yu Xing raised an eyebrow unexpectedly. It seemed that no one had shot at the team member's head just now.

"What the hell!?" A Bai hurriedly ordered to stop shooting and went to pull the person out of the "deep water area." Surprisingly, the process went smoothly, and they managed to pull back... his corpse.

A Bai sighed as he looked at the team member's head. "Shot through the forehead, no chance of survival."

"What happened? Was he killed by a ghost or did you guys accidentally kill him?" Yu Xing's camera didn't capture anything in the water.

A Bai laughed when she heard this. "Of course not. Our marksmanship isn't as bad as you think. There must be something at work!"

What exactly was it?

Why did all the NPC deaths since the deduction began happen under gunfire?

A Bai was also pondering this question, but before she could figure it out, her body suddenly felt weightless.

As if someone had pushed her, A Bai fell forward, and ahead of her was the deep water area!

Not only A Bai, but Yu Xing, Song Quan, and the other team members, one after another, fell into the water.

"Damn it, who pushed me!"

"Damn it, get out of here!"In the midst of the chaos, Yu Xing only had time to leave the camera behind, not allowing the expensive equipment to be submerged with him.

He then looked up and saw a group of little ghosts on the shore!

These little ghosts were small, about the size of a palm, squatting on the side with grinning faces, some still in the posture of pushing people into the water.

Yu Xing recognized these little ghosts. They were also on the guns of one of the team members, which meant that this was the power of the Deductionist's sacrificial ability!

He had already guessed that the person who took action last night was someone on the ship, and among the people present now, the only one who was on the ship yesterday was the paranormal researcher, Song Quan.

Yu Xing glanced to the side, Song Quan was also pushed into the water, trying to get out of the deep water. As the saying goes, the show must go on, a look of panic appeared on Song Quan's face, as if he was truly frightened.

"Help, I can't..." A Bai was floundering in the water, unable to find a foothold, his body constantly bobbing in the water, swallowing a lot of water. Yu Xing casually fished him up and steadied him, allowing his feet to touch the bottom.

"I can't swim..." A Bai finally finished his sentence, coughing painfully, and gave Yu Xing a grateful look.

Nightmare shouted loudly, "Regardless of who pushed us, it's definitely not a good thing. Let's get out of here before the undead attack!"

However, the crisis in the water was already approaching.

Yu Xing, pulling the clumsy A Bai in the water towards the shore, suddenly felt something was wrong in the corner of his eye.
