Vol.5 - Chapter 2 – The worker at the Haunted Bar

The events of the night did not affect Yu Xing's sleep quality. As he said, although he had been emotionally distressed before, he was no longer the weakling he used to be.

After comforting Qu Xianqing for a while, he let her return to her own room and went back to sleep.

It wasn't until the next day, when the sky was bright, that his WeChat call suddenly rang. He sat up satisfied and answered the call.

"Zhao Mou said you are strong now, so I should take the opportunity before you advance to the next level and urge you to take me through the main storyline." The coldness in Zhao Yijiu's voice became more apparent after experiencing several deduction games. Yu Xing suspected that it was not only because of his temperament, but also related to his own abilities.

"Yeah, I haven't forgotten." Yu Xing got out of bed and felt a bit guilty about Zhao Mou's urging.

He had promised to help Zhao Yijiu advance to a higher level, but until now, he had only played one game with him in Alice's Hell, and that was an automatic selection by the system.

Indeed, he was not being responsible enough.

After advancing to the next level, he couldn't deduce with beginners, intermediates, and advanced deductionists. Zhao Mou probably saw his live broadcast last night and saw Zhao Mou's name in the donation settlement on the big screen. He realized that if he continued like this, he wouldn't be able to bring Zhao Yijiu along. That's why he came to urge him.

Thinking of this, he suddenly remembered that he had gained over four thousand points last night. "Wait for me, I forgot to check the panel."

Yu Xing activated his persona mask, and while there weren't many changes in the other data, his identity had been upgraded from an intermediate deductionist to an advanced deductionist. It could be said that the newcomer tournament had given him a big boost in points, bringing him one step closer to the next level.

Really, if he didn't bring Zhao Yijiu, he really wouldn't be able to.

Breaking promises was not a good habit, especially since Zhao Mou had helped him so much. He couldn't just back out. Feeling good now, Yu Xing took the initiative to ask, "Can I join you in the confrontational main storyline deduction? When do you plan to start?"

Zhao Yijiu seemed to be silent for a moment, and Yu Xing wondered what he was thinking. After a few seconds, he replied, "Wait until you have breakfast."

Oh well.

He didn't mention it, but as soon as Zhao Yijiu did, Yu Xing started feeling hungry.

But how did Zhao Yijiu know that he hadn't eaten breakfast?

He looked at his phone and saw that it was only eight o'clock.

Zhao Yijiu said, "Your voice sounds like you just woke up."

As always, Zhao Yijiu spoke very little. However, under Yu Xing's questioning, he revealed some information. For example, Zhao Mou originally asked him to video call Yu Xing, saying that after watching Yu Xing's live broadcasts for a few days, he found that Yu Xing liked to sleep in, and a video call would be more effective in waking him up.

But Yu Xing didn't know what aspect Zhao Yijiu was referring to when he mentioned seeing something he shouldn't see. He always felt that Zhao Yijiu treated him as someone who was not serious and would request some special services in a hotel.

Also, Zhao Mou had calculated that Yu Xing was currently investigating an unknown case, and hadn't found any key clues yet. When he officially got involved, Yu Xing would be much busier than now, so he should try to bring someone along.

After encountering the "Prophet," Yu Xing became even more curious about Zhao Mou's predictive deduction abilities. Zhao Mou was obviously much stronger in this aspect, and for him, he had always been very curious about this ability.

After agreeing to have breakfast, Yu Xing entered the game with Zhao Yijiu. He didn't think the frequency was too fast. In fact, after watching the real world for so many years, the deduction world was just another different world to him.

Playing in it was more interesting than staying in the unchanging reality.

After changing his clothes, Yu Xing sensed the ghostly aura inside Ling Heng and found that he was still the same as a few days ago, with a faint aura and no intention of going out.

The weather was good today and it wouldn't rain. The killer who liked to slit throats probably wouldn't appear, so Yu Xing didn't need to go out and stop a murder case.

He went upstairs and called Qu Xianqing, who was used to waking up early, to have breakfast at the hotel restaurant, and then told her about Zhao Family's matters.

Qu Xianqing took a sip of the steaming porridge and thought for a moment. "No wonder, when you were live streaming, Zhao Mou from Zhao Family spoke for you."

"He spoke for me?"

"Not exactly, but I think he's not bad. Ah, you greeted me before and said someone wanted to investigate me, and it was also Zhao Family." Qu Xianqing remembered that when she was deducing a while ago, it seemed like someone was secretly investigating her, but she remembered Yu Xing's reminder and didn't take action.

Theft is never good, try looking at [ pawℝead.com ].

Otherwise, with those small actions, she could have killed ten people by now.

"Next time I meet someone from Zhao Family, I'll be more accommodating."

Yu Xing covered his face. Qu Xianqing seemed to judge whether a person was good or not based on how they treated him.

Although he was touched and knew that Qu Xianqing was just saying it casually and wouldn't be swayed by this condition, it also showed that her interpersonal relationships were really simple and she had no friends. She was too lonely.

Yu Xing had tried to pull Qu Xianqing out of her protective shell before, but he hadn't succeeded. She moved away, and when she came back, the situation had not improved. It had become fixed.

Forget it, everyone has different choices. He really hoped that both Qu Xianqing and Zhu Yan could live well in this world, happy every day. But there were many ways to happiness.

Zhu Yan could go to school and work like a normal person, even establish a relationship with the Criminal Investigation Brigade, and become a completely positive character in the future.

As for Qu Xianqing, she liked hiding in the darkness, abandoning many emotions, and being feared by others. She liked that feeling, and that was also happiness.

Yu Xing: Since he raised her himself, what else could he do? Just spoil her.

Around nine o'clock, Yu Xing returned to his room and contacted Zhao Yijiu again. Then he summoned his persona mask and chose the last main storyline mission. Are you starting the main quest?

"Yes."

The system has detected that you have a team intention with the deductionist "Leng Jiu". Do you want to enter the game together?

"Yes."

Qu Xianqing had explained this to him before. Although there is no team system, the system can detect team intentions. When two or more people choose to start the game at the same time, this intention will take effect.

Below is the information for this deduction game.

It is still the familiar translucent red text.

Medium-sized deduction: Haunted Bar

Genre: Competitive deduction game

Analysis: In a competitive deduction game, deductionists will always be in a competitive relationship. Rankings are determined by the gain or loss of points. At the end of the deduction, the last place is eliminated, and the top ranks receive rewards.

This deduction game is for eight players.

This deduction game does not take up real time.

After reading the deduction prompt, Yu Xing heard the noisy conversations and music in his ears.

The conversations grew louder, as if they were being pulled in from a distance. The colors in front of him became blurry and distorted. After a while, he felt himself standing up, and then the scenery around him changed.

The booming music made him frown, and the lights in front of him flickered, almost blinding him.

This was a bar.

The bar was large and luxuriously decorated. He was standing in the lobby, where men and women were swaying their bodies in the center of the dance floor, as if they were going crazy.

The DJ was a heavily made-up woman with long hair. She wore a row of earrings on her ears and a sexy and cool black leather jacket. She clapped her hands to the rhythm and occasionally interacted with the crowd below.

"It's so noisy." Yu Xing muttered discontentedly, his voice drowned in the cheers of the people.

But amidst the liveliness and noise, a cold atmosphere permeated the entire hall, as cold as a small ice cellar.

That's a bit exaggerated, so let's go with the next best thing. It's as cold as a graveyard.

Yu Xing touched the goosebumps on his arm under his long sleeves.

Due to his special physique, he felt uncomfortable again.

Fortunately, there was no curse source here, he was just a little cold, and the ghost energy in his body was not restless.

But this didn't stop him from immediately realizing that none of the people on the dance floor were alive.

Wow, the whole bar is filled with ghosts.

If it were someone else, they might have felt weak after coming to this conclusion. But he was calm and even interested in observing the expressions of these ghosts.

Immersed in the frenzy of music and dance, the specters showed very human-like emotions. Otherwise, the eerie aura emanating from them would be no different from that of living people.

Yu Xing looked down and saw that he was wearing the clothes he had on in the hotel. He had lost everything else, but gained a mobile phone.

The phone vibrated in his jeans pocket. Yu Xing reached out to block the light ball shining from above and took out the unfamiliar phone, unlocking it with his fingerprint.

The phone displayed 23:40.

A WeChat group message popped up, with the note "Manager" mentioned everyone in the group:

Manager: Is everyone here? Hurry up and go to the changing room to change clothes. The night shift is about to start.

"Night shift?" Yu Xing raised an eyebrow. Was his identity this time a bartender?

But his appearance and attire hadn't changed, which meant that at least in terms of character design, he had freedom and there were no restrictions on his role-playing.

He tried to reply to one of the messages he received.

01: Received.

Immediately, the other replies followed.

02: Received.

03: Received.

04: Received.

08: Received.

There were a total of eight people in the group, besides the manager. The numbers in the replies were very neat, and Yu Xing suspected that these numbers were assigned based on the order of the replies.

Sure enough, the next prompt arrived.

Since you were the first to reply, your number in this deduction is 01.

Deduction prompt: Go to the changing room to gather and listen to the manager's instructions.

At this moment, the system also gave a task. Soon, a blood-red arrow appeared in Yu Xing's field of vision, but it seemed that the people in the dance floor couldn't see it.

Yu Xing followed the arrow.

Compared to the noisy dance floor, other areas were much quieter. The exquisite leaf-shaped bar counter looked expensive, and the bartenders inside were well-dressed and had their uniforms fitted, but their faces were heavily made-up.

Not the kind of good-looking makeup, but a strange style, with a pale foundation that was frighteningly white, no trace of blood, and lips that were crimson, with smoky eyes.

The chairs next to the bar were full, and these customers had normal faces, dressed differently, but they didn't seem to find anything wrong with the bartenders.

Very strange.

Yu Xing rarely came to bars like this, so he didn't know much. He even started to wonder if this was some kind of unique aesthetic fashion?

"Hey handsome, are you alone?" After walking a few steps, a woman in a red dress sitting in a corner booth approached him with a drink. She gave him a flirtatious look, implying something.

"Sorry, I'm not alone." Yu Xing politely nodded at her, using his distant and serious actions to tell her that he wasn't someone she could flirt with.

The woman in the red dress pursed her lips and didn't say anything. She gave him a suggestive look and then went back.

Yu Xing stared at her figure and a thought came to his mind: she's a malevolent ghost in a red dress.

A malevolent ghost in a red dress is a very terrifying specter in Chinese ghost legends, full of resentment and highly aggressive, often related to suicide.

But in this bar, the red-dressed ghost didn't seem to be that aggressive.

Taking note of this, Yu Xing continued to follow the blood-red arrow in his sight.

The path to the changing room was straightforward. In no time, he saw several other people walking towards this direction, dressed more casually.

They exchanged glances, understanding each other without words.

The deductionists were probably the most out of place people here.

After thinking for a moment, he waited in place for a while, and sure enough, he saw Zhao Yijiu with a stern face.Upon seeing him, Yu Xing couldn't help but want to laugh. Zhao Yijiu's icy demeanor blended seamlessly into this place. If he were thrown into a pile of specters, no one would be able to pick out the living person.

Zhao Yijiu still had a pair of glasses perched on his nose, which somehow softened the sharpness between his brows.

When he looked over, Zhao Yijiu seemed to sense it and quickened his pace towards him.

Yu Xing teased, "Are you okay? Have you ever been to a bar before?"

"I have." Zhao Yijiu was sparing with his words, replying coldly.

Yu Xing was surprised. He had thought that someone with Zhao Yijiu's icy personality would never come to a place like this.

He couldn't continue his teasing.

Zhao Yijiu paused for a second, then added, "Zhao Mou dragged me here, a long time ago."

Yu Xing: "Oh."

The changing room seemed to be at the very back of the bar, the door somewhat concealed. This place didn't get many customers, probably the quietest part of the entire bar.

The door to the changing room was ajar. As the two of them pushed the door open and entered, before they had a chance to look around, they were stopped by a young man in a shirt and vest.

The young man had pale skin and an impatient look in his eyes. Seeing their faces, he seemed to suppress some of his impatience, trying to keep his tone as calm as possible: "01, 04, why are you dawdling? You're the only ones left. Hurry up and change."

Apart from them, the other six deductionists had already arrived and seemed to have just changed their clothes. The men were dressed in trousers and shirt vests, very slim-fitting. The women wore the same on top, with black skirts and black stockings on the bottom.

One of the braver male deductionists joked, "Boss, you were much harsher on me just now."

The young boss glared at him, "Can you compare? I can tell at a glance that these two can sell a lot of expensive drinks. What about you?"

Some of the other deductionists laughed, while others were speechless.

Yu Xing listened and learned something: the specter customers here also cared about appearances.

He took the opportunity to look around. This changing room had two curtained changing areas, most of the space was arranged like a lounge. There were chairs lined up against the wall, as well as a makeup table.

"Your clothes are in the changing area, they're numbered. Change quickly, I have a lot of rules to go over with you." The boss pointed behind the curtain. Yu Xing nodded and he and the expressionless Zhao Yijiu each entered a changing area.

In the changing area, there was a stack of clothes with a piece of paper on top that read "01".

Yu Xing changed into the shirt, vest, and trousers, then put on the black leather shoes next to the clothes. He looked at himself in the mirror and had to admit that the boss's judgment that he could sell a lot of drinks was correct.

Not long after he came out, Zhao Yijiu also emerged from behind the curtain, still wearing his glasses.

The two of them lined up like the other deductionists. To Yu Xing's left was a man who looked about twenty-five, about 1.75 meters tall, with a gloomy expression and a lack of energy.

The man who was lively and set the atmosphere was probably in his early twenties, full of youthful energy, with a stubborn air about him.

Further to the left were four girls of varying ages. The most mature one looked to be in her thirties, exuding a mature charm.

"Good, we have six minutes left. I'll go over some precautions." The boss paced back and forth with his hands behind his back, "First of all, I want to make it clear that even though you are temporary workers, you still need to take your work seriously. If you can't meet your targets..."

"Cough, cough, if it weren't for the fact that the original bar staff went out to play and ended up being caught by a ghostbuster, I wouldn't have hired you bunch of living people!" The boss seemed a bit angry when he mentioned this, and his gaze towards them wasn't very friendly.

"What? What do you mean by 'caught by a ghostbuster'? What do you mean by 'us bunch of living people'?" A ponytailed girl who seemed inexperienced asked nervously.

The customers were too much like living people. Except for Yu Xing, who had a special constitution, no one could tell that they were all ghosts. At most, they just felt that the bar was very cold.

"Don't you understand? In this entire bar, you eight are the only ones alive. You're just temporary workers I hired because I had no other choice!"

The boss threatened, "So, don't give yourselves away and let the customers know you're human. I'll be punished if you do. I think, you wouldn't want to be recognized and then tortured by a group of excited malevolent ghosts, would you?"

"What kind of behavior would give us away?" The woman in her thirties asked.

"Smart. Let me tell you, don't laugh or cry when you're working. Our ghost servers here don't cry or laugh. If a customer sees either of these expressions, congratulations, you're dead."

Yu Xing was relieved that he hadn't smiled when he rejected the woman in red earlier. Otherwise, if he encountered her again as a server, he would be done for.

The boss waved his hand, "Alright, you'll work in pairs according to tradition to complete the rest of the work."
