Chapter 3 – Yu Xing's mouth is full of lies

The man in the black duck tongue hat was taken away by the police who arrived, and Han Xinyi was taken to the hospital. Due to her unstable emotions, she insisted on having the "life-saving benefactor" accompany her. The police decided to take a statement from Yu Xing at the hospital.

Due to the serious nature of the incident and the possibility of involving a serial throat-slashing killer, the criminal investigation team from the Flower Market was mobilized this time. The team leader had already taken the assailant back to the station for questioning, while the deputy team leader stayed at the hospital. After Yu Xing and a detective completed the statement in the empty hospital room, the deputy team leader walked over and patted Yu Xing on the shoulder. "You're quite something, kid. You're so agile. Have you had training?"

Yu Xing's clothes were soaked through, so he changed into a new set. He yawned and replied, "It's okay. I practiced Sanda when I was young, but I've forgotten most of it now."

"I couldn't tell. You may be small, but you're quite strong." The deputy team leader, in his forties with a crew cut, had a well-maintained physique. He didn't seem like the kind of leader who stayed inactive in the office. He had introduced himself to Yu Xing before as Gao Changan.

Yu Xing smiled shyly. "Just so-so."

"I heard you're not from this city. This time, you saved a life in a courageous act. I reckon I can apply for a commendation for you." Gao Changan observed that Yu Xing was not nervous at all when dealing with the detective, and he even seemed quite skilled. He was a bit curious.

"No need. I don't like to stand out. Just pretend I wasn't here." Yu Xing waved his hand and glanced at Han Xinyi's hospital room. "How is she?"

"Thanks to you, she has a scratch on her shoulder, and her back was bumped but not seriously. The other injuries are just scrapes. Conservatively speaking, she'll be up and about in three days, but she'll need to have her shoulder bandaged and avoid making big movements." Gao Changan spoke, and the more he looked at Yu Xing, the more he liked him. "According to Han Xinyi, you suddenly turned back. How did you know something had happened over here?"

Yu Xing nodded in the direction of the young detective who was taking the statement. "He already asked me. You can ask him."

Then he nodded slightly and entered Han Xinyi's hospital room.

Gao Changan turned to the uniformed officer who was meticulous in his attire. "Xiao Gu, what did he say about this?"

Xiao Gu flipped through the records. "He said he didn't control the speed of the bike well, and water splashed onto the little girl's clothes on the side of the road. He turned back to look and noticed a man covering himself tightly without an umbrella. Oh, he specifically mentioned that due to the heavy rain, there were few pedestrians on the road, so the impression was deeper. He glanced and felt that the man's posture was strange. After riding for over a minute, he felt something was wrong and turned back to take a look. As a result, he heard the girl calling for help."

"I see. This kid has strong observational skills." Gao Changan listened and rubbed his stubble. His years of experience in the police force made him more cautious.

"Maybe it's just a coincidence. Deputy Chief Gao, looks like we'll be working overtime again tonight." Xiao Gu scratched his head. Perhaps the atmosphere in the Flower Market Criminal Investigation Team was usually relaxed, so he didn't feel the need to be reserved in front of the deputy team leader. Instead, he brought up other issues. "Will we still have dinner? Oh, and the only female officer in our team is also hungry. If she's not happy, the Narcotics Division might poach her, and we might lose this rare female colleague."

Knowing that this young man was being talkative and joking, Gao Changan gave him a stern look. "There's not much to do at the hospital. I'll let you have dinner later."

The next moment, his tone became serious. "After dinner, go back to the station and see what the situation is with the assailant. His attack this time was full of loopholes, and he dared to act with such uncertainty, which is a big difference from the meticulousness shown by the throat-slashing killer in the previous case."

"Are you saying that he's highly likely not the killer in the throat-slashing case?" Xiao Gu also furrowed his brow. "Then why did he choose to slash Han Xinyi's throat on a rainy day? Was he trying to frame someone?"

"Whether it's framing or imitation, we won't know until we question him. Even if he's not the killer in the throat-slashing case, he might still have some clues. Not to mention, if there's even a one percent chance that he is the killer, we need to be a hundred percent vigilant."

As Gao Changan spoke, he remembered something. "Has Han Xinyi's family been notified? Why haven't they arrived yet?"

"Han Xinyi is an orphan, raised by a distant uncle since she was young. After she became an adult, she became independent and has no other relatives. But we've notified her uncle, Han Zhiyong. He's been on a business trip out of town these past few days, but he promised to rush back immediately." Xiao Gu looked at his watch. "It's already nine o'clock. I think he should be able to make it tonight."

...

The door to the hospital room opened, and Han Xinyi, who was chatting with the female officer, hurriedly looked over and saw the face that had imprinted itself in her heart with just one glance.

"Are you okay?" Yu Xing smiled and sat down on the chair next to the bed.

"N-no, I'm fine. Thank you." Han Xinyi whispered, her face flushing red.

She wasn't someone who was obsessed with looks, but when she saw Yu Xing, a sense of security surged from the depths of her heart.

The moment he saved her, it felt like a divine intervention.

No one had ever been by her side when she needed them, but today, someone was there.

She used to scoff at the cliché plot of the female lead falling for the person who saved her, but now... I can't escape this law either, can I? Han Xinyi sighed inwardly.

The female officer glanced at the two of them. Although she was a bit envious, she was very sensible. "You two chat. I'll go outside and take a look."

"Okay..." Han Xinyi adjusted the collar of her hospital gown. The bandage on her left shoulder was thick and made her very uncomfortable, especially since she couldn't move her left arm.

Yu Xing looked at her and asked, "How much longer until your family arrives?"

Han Xinyi paused for a moment and lowered her head. "I don't have parents... just an uncle. He might arrive a little later."

"It's good to have someone with you." Yu Xing looked at her gently. "I'll leave later."

"Huh? You're leaving?" Han Xinyi blurted out, then realized she was being unreasonable. At first, she could claim her emotions were unstable and needed her savior to stay, but now that everything had settled down, could she, a stranger, really expect him to stay the night to watch over her?

Not to mention that her uncle would come over, even if she didn't have an uncle, she couldn't ask that much of someone else.

"Uh, you... be careful on the road," she said, offering the sweetest smile she could muster.

Yu Xing turned his head and chuckled, "It's you who should be careful on the road."

Han Xinyi pursed her lips and remained silent.

"Ah, I'm wrong, I shouldn't have brought that up," Yu Xing's expression was momentarily flustered, "I... am not very good at speaking, especially in front of such a cute girl like you, I'm even worse."

Liar.

And he says he's not good at speaking?

Han Xinyi felt a surge of joy inside, feeling that the shock and harm she had suffered today had dissipated quite a bit.

She looked at Yu Xing and thought, "He's so handsome, there must have been many girls chasing after him since he was young, how could he be at a loss for words when he meets a cute girl? Liar, he must have maxed out his social skills."

"Yu Xing... can I have your contact information?" Han Xinyi asked proactively.

"Well..." Yu Xing hesitated, and as he saw the disappointment in her eyes, he said, "Saving you was just a simple gesture for me, and as for us... if it's meant to be, we'll meet again."

With that, he waved his hand and left Han Xinyi's hospital room.

Han Xinyi felt dejected for a few minutes, then perked up, "Relationships between people don't just happen by fate; it's always one side actively seeking the other. Hmm, I'll ask the police later, they definitely have Yu Xing's number."

...

Yu Xing bid farewell to the police, and Gao Changan even wanted to treat him to a boxed meal, but he declined, "No, no, my girlfriend is waiting for me at the hotel. If I don't go back now, she's already upset with me for staying apart, she'll be completely angry."

A policewoman interjected in surprise, "You have a girlfriend?"

Yu Xing looked at himself and said, "Hmm... do I not look like someone who would have a girlfriend?"

The policewoman held her forehead.

He did, too much so. Handsome and skilled, who wouldn't like him?

But seeing Han Xinyi's state earlier, as a woman, she naturally realized, this was a case of unrequited love.

What a pity, a classic case of the flower pining for love while the stream flows on uncaring.

After confirming the hotel where Yu Xing was staying and getting his contact information, Gao Changan let him go, adding, "We might still need your cooperation with some investigations later on, oh, not that there's anything wrong with you, just routine questioning, if you can help."

"I understand, no need to explain, I won't be leaving Flower Market these few days, you can find me anytime," Yu Xing cut off Gao Changan's explanation.

What a nice young man, Gao Changan!

Outside the hospital, the sky had completely darkened, and although the rain had stopped, Yu Xing took a taxi back to the place where the incident had occurred around six, picked up his motorcycle covered with a raincoat, and rode it back.

On the road, his gaze was cold as he watched the streetlights grow more numerous and the streets busier, his mind already calculating.

...

"Girlfriend?" Qu Xianqing raised an eyebrow and repeated, her naturally smiling lips now seeming more like a tease and a mockery.

"Right."

It was just past ten o'clock, and Yu Xing was sitting in Qu Xianqing's room, looking over the case files she had organized.

He felt no guilt about using Qu Xianqing as a shield; it wasn't the first time, after all. So, facing Qu Xianqing's half-smiling gaze, he pretended not to see it.

In the past three days, they had checked everything they could, such as the fact that the throat-slitting killer would always avoid surveillance cameras, and the crime scenes were mostly rainy night alleys, rarely indoors.

Probably to use the rain to wash away the traces at the scene, making it difficult to leave usable evidence.

Also, all the victims were young people aged between twenty and twenty-five, and in terms of appearance, they were all considered outstanding by the world's standards.

So Yu Xing had been more active than usual these past three days, almost turning Flower Market upside down.

All to bait someone.

"Hmm... today's catch was not bad, we'll have to figure out why that man with the black duckbill cap wanted to imitate the crime," he summarized.

That's right, Yu Xing had already confirmed that the man with the duckbill cap was not the one he was looking for.

A formal member of the Prism wouldn't be that incompetent.
