Chapter 33 – I'll miss you so much

Gu Aoting spoke with a dark expression, "Mercy doesn't raise soldiers, and righteousness doesn't conduct business. I'm a businessman, and for a businessman, profit comes first. A businessman who doesn't prioritize profit isn't qualified. As for why I did what I did, I've already thoroughly explained it to Su Hua a few days ago, and she agreed quite readily then."

Remembering the humiliation she had suffered in the café that day, Su Hua felt her scalp tingle.

She really didn't want to go through that again.

She gently pushed away Gu Beixian's hand, stood up, and said to Gu Aoting, "Dad, no, Uncle, I'd like to talk to you alone."

Gu Aoting gave her a cold glance, "Come to the study with me."

Gu Beixian stood up, intending to accompany Su Hua.

She shook her head at him, "No need."

Gu Beixian squeezed her hand and said softly, "If you're unhappy, just come out. There's no need to endure it."

Su Hua nodded in response.

She followed Gu Aoting into the study, one after the other.

The Old Master was also there, writing calligraphy with a brush.

He was writing the character "静" (tranquility) in a lively and vigorous style.

Seeing Su Hua enter, the Old Master looked up and smiled warmly at her, "Little Su, you're here."

Su Hua greeted him softly, "Grandfather."

Gu Aoting pulled up a chair to sit down and gestured for her to do the same.

Su Hua didn't sit; she stood straight, her posture polite yet distant, and said, "Uncle, you've misunderstood. I didn't come here today to complain to Grandmother Gu. I came to persuade her to agree to our divorce. Grandmother Gu has always been very kind to me, and since I'm leaving, I wanted to say goodbye to her."

Gu Aoting looked at her with a complex gaze for a few seconds and said, "The assets under Beixian's name were notarized before the marriage, and the assets acquired after the marriage have nothing to do with you. As for compensation, a billion suddenly appeared in your account a few months ago, that was from him, right?"

Su Hua nodded, "Yes."

Gu Aoting opened his briefcase and took out a stack of documents, handing them over, "This is the divorce agreement drafted by my people. Take a look, and if there are no objections, sign it."

Su Hua took them, skimmed through quickly, and found it was pretty much as she had expected.

She flipped to the signature page, picked up a pen from the desk, and signed, three copies in total.

After signing, she handed them to Gu Aoting.

Gu Aoting took them and checked carefully.

Once he confirmed there were no errors, his stern face broke into a smile, "Uncle likes children like you who don't cling or make unreasonable scenes. Considering you've taken care of Beixian for two years, if you ever run into trouble, just call me, and I'll help you."

Su Hua replied with neither humility nor arrogance, "There's no need. I work in cultural relic restoration, and you're in business; we're in completely different industries. It's like we're worlds apart; you can't really help me with anything."

Gu Aoting's expression turned cold, his gaze arrogant and disdainful.

His look clearly said: You really don't know what's good for you.

Su Hua curved her lips into a faint smile, meeting his gaze calmly.

The Old Master couldn't continue with the last stroke of his "静" character.

He put down his brush, sighed, and said to Su Hua, "Little Su, even if you divorce Beixian, you're still Grandfather and Grandmother Gu's child. Come back and visit often; this will always be your home."

Su Hua's tightly wound heart instantly broke down.

Her eyes grew sore, and tears almost fell.

Her throat tightened as she said, "Thank you, Grandfather. I will definitely come to visit you and Grandmother often."

The Old Master covered his eyes with his hand, leaned back in his armchair, waved at her, and said with a hoarse voice, "You go ahead, I want to be alone for a while."

"Alright, Grandfather." Su Hua gave him a deep, lingering look and pushed the door open to leave.

Hearing the door close, Gu Beixian stood up from the sofa.

He strode over with his long legs, his left hand resting on Su Hua's shoulder as he looked down to check her complexion.

He asked softly, "Are you okay?"

Su Hua shook her head, forcing a smile at him, her large eyes glistening with moisture.

The Elderly lady also got up from the sofa, watching Su Hua from afar, wanting to smile but unable to.

Su Hua walked over and hugged her silently.

After a long while, she finally spoke, "Grandmother Gu, remember to take your calcium tablets on time every day for your leg pain, get more sun in the winter. Don't indulge in the coolness of air conditioning in the summer, and don't eat too much watermelon. Your stomach isn't strong, and it can't handle the cold."

The Elderly lady understood everything upon hearing this.

Tears uncontrollably streamed down her face.

She hugged Su Hua tightly, "Child, child, please stay, won't you stay?"

Su Hua's heart ached, and she choked up, "Grandmother, I've made up my mind."

The Elderly lady sobbed uncontrollably, holding her even tighter, "Child, our Gu Family has wronged you, we've wronged you, Grandmother can't bear to see you go."

Su Hua felt as if her heart was being pricked by needles, "Thank you for taking care of me these past three years, Grandmother."

"No, Grandmother should be thanking you. Without you, who knows if Beixian could have made it through those two years."

Gu Aoting stood aside, watching coldly, and couldn't help but interject, "Beixian saved her grandmother, bought them a house, and gave Su Hua a lot of money as compensation; we don't owe her anything."

The Elderly lady's eyelids lifted as she glared at him, "Money, money, money! That's all you know! Go live with your money then!"

Gu Aoting's face darkened like storm clouds.

"I have other matters to attend to; you talk." He left abruptly, carrying his expensive briefcase.

Dinner was ready.

The servants brought the dishes to the table.

Despite the lavish meal, everyone ate with a lack of appetite, finding it hard to swallow.

The mood was exceptionally somber.

Finally, after finishing the meal, Gu Beixian and Su Hua said goodbye to Grandfather and Grandmother Gu.

After getting into the car.

Gu Beixian fastened the seatbelt for Su Hua and started the car in silence.

The two of them didn't speak the entire way.

Upon reaching the residential area where Su Hua lived.

Gu Beixian parked the car and turned off the engine.

Su Hua unbuckled her seatbelt and said, "Drive safely on your way back."

Gu Beixian didn't respond; his handsome and noble face was expressionless, his thin lips slightly pursed, revealing no emotion.

"I'm going home now." After saying this softly, Su Hua reached out to push the car door.

Suddenly, Gu Beixian grabbed her wrist.

He didn't look at her, his gaze indifferent as he stared ahead, asking emotionlessly, "Have you really decided?"

"Yes, Uncle Gu has prepared the divorce agreement, and I've already signed it. When you have time, sign it too. Bring your household registration book and ID card on Monday morning, and let's finalize the procedures." Su Hua's tone was unusually calm.

Calm in a way that didn't seem to fit her age.

Gu Beixian finally turned to look at her, his words carrying an ambiguous tone, "Finally free?"

His voice was light, the corners of his attractive lips slightly curved in a cool smile that seemed more like self-mockery.

"Yes." Su Hua sighed lightly, "Finally free."

No longer would she have to be annoyed by Chu Suosuo.

Nor would she have to face Gu Aoting's displeasure.

That feeling of being despised and looked down upon was truly unbearable, like a thorn in her side.

Even though she had done nothing wrong, it felt as if she had made many mistakes.

Gu Beixian silently chuckled, spreading her injured left hand in his palm, gently rubbing her middle and ring fingers.

Su Hua didn't move, letting him rub.

After a long while, he finally spoke, "I had wanted to help you with rehabilitation. You helped me massage my legs for a full two years."

Su Hua's heart clenched with pain, but she smiled and said, "You've given me so much money, more than many people could earn in a lifetime, so you don't have to feel indebted to me, really."

Gu Beixian looked down at her.

The smile on his face gradually faded.

He lifted her head to his, their foreheads touching, and after a long moment, he whispered, "I'll miss you so much."
