Vol.1 - Chapter 016 – Stirring waves

The moment the white snake appeared, Su He felt as if the entire world crashed onto him, instantly sending him flying away.

Suddenly awake, he found himself still in the small lake of Snake Valley, but the moonlight no longer enveloped him.

This was the legacy of the Green Snake, and he had been expelled.

A die quietly fell in front of Su He:

Five points!

What a pity. If he could have stayed in the Green Snake's legacy, Su He might have learned the transmission at five times the speed...

Suddenly, Su He was stunned.

Something more appeared in his mind: Stirring Waves!

The art of stirring waves!

The legacy the Green Snake received this time was stirring waves. Su He didn't see the first part, which was stirring the wind, only the latter part, stirring waves, and thus obtained this segment of the legacy.

Stirring waves could control water currents to create towering waves, but of course, that was the white snake's skill. Having just received the legacy, he could only stir a small splash, not enough to splash water around.

Su He could now—he lifted his paw, as if picking up a ribbon, scooping up a strip of lake water.

No, this wasn't stirring waves.

Stirring waves could create towering waves, but couldn't lift water like a ribbon. This was... Water Manipulation!

The stirring waves from the white snake's legacy, after rolling a five on the die, had transformed into a divine ability akin to Water Manipulation.

Divine Ability!

Not demon arts, but divine ability, like the instinct of eating and drinking. It felt as if it was an innate ability of Su He.

There's a fundamental difference between spells and divine abilities.

Spells are learned, divine abilities are innate.

If one must say, eating, drinking, defecating, and urinating are divine abilities for humans, just too ordinary. But from another perspective, to plants, it's miraculous that such things can eat!

Divine Ability!

Divine abilities are innate talents, unlearnable and unteachable.

One cannot teach their divine ability to others, just as a bird cannot teach a cat to fly.

But spells can.

The die not only enhances learning efficiency but also allows the plundered legacy to advance.

It's just unknown how this advancement multiplier is calculated?

Plundered prey can accurately increase fivefold, whether in quality or quantity, at least it's a real item. How does demon arts accurately calculate fivefold or to the fifth power?

Su He slowly sank to the bottom of the water, pondering silently. Until the full moon set in the west, the moonlight on the Green Snake gradually dissipated, and it slowly came to its senses with a bewildered look in its eyes.

The Green Snake glanced at Su He, ignoring him, as it had become accustomed to this during this time. This shameless turtle often lingered here.

In recent days, the Green Snake's eyes had become more lively, a sign of the nearing hundred days, as the Demon Morphing Fruit was almost fully digested, and its spiritual intelligence was beginning to awaken.

The Green Snake slithered down from the tree and into the lake, flicking its tail to stir the water.

It wanted to stir waves but couldn't manage it.

The Green Snake was not discouraged, as learning the legacy of demon arts takes time. Since consuming the Demon Morphing Fruit nearly three months ago, it had received a legacy of demon arts once every full moon, and it took over a month of hard practice to master the first two. This time, stirring waves was even more difficult.

Especially stirring waves, it always felt like something was missing, making it hard to grasp.

Probably because it wasn't a water snake?

The Emerald Green Snake could swim, but it wasn't a water snake.

Su He sank in the water, turning his turtle head around to constantly examine his body. The more he calmed down, the more he could feel the changes in his body, as if the ability to control water currents was integrated into every inch of his skin.

Every water current that touched him could be controlled, even the tip of his tail was no exception.

A turtle and Water Manipulation make such a fitting combination, much more useful than simply stirring waves.

He had plundered an incredible legacy.

Su He poked the Green Snake and climbed ashore, using his paw to draw a Water Element Talisman on a stone.

Talismans are the direct manifestation of the essence of all things in the world. Observing talismans is akin to comprehending the Dao. Having plundered the Green Snake's legacy of stirring waves, leaving it a Water Element Talisman was somewhat compensatory.

At worst, he could give it a few high-quality meals before hibernation.

Su He dived into the lake, stirring the water as he returned to Crocodile Beach.

Perhaps due to just acquiring the divine ability or being influenced by it, Su He preferred staying underwater more. Controlling the water currents to coil around him like a snake, it felt as if his entire body was merging with the lake water.

Previously, he could only paddle with the webbing between his claws, but now every stroke carried the Water Manipulation divine ability, making the water he stirred feel almost solid, like grabbing a cable underwater, doubling his speed.

This divine ability could likely be practiced and developed further, and perhaps in the future, he wouldn't need to paddle to travel, a wave could carry him across the seas.

Upon returning to Crocodile Beach, the crocodiles had mostly finished their night's hunt. After eating some of the crocodiles' offerings, Su He suppressed his inner excitement and forced himself to take a nap.

During this time, he hadn't eaten food that increased his quality by five or six points, but little by little, his body accumulated a lot of energy. After storing it for a while, he could enter another deep sleep.

In recent days, his turtle shell showed signs of loosening and shedding again, indicating the next evolution was near. This time, it would likely be a longer slumber, possibly merging with hibernation.

The Demon Morphing Fruit was also nearly fully digested.

By mid-morning, the lazy sun shone over Crocodile Beach.

Just when Su He thought Yu Lin was no longer afraid of giving lectures and wouldn't come again, two Fairy Swords arrived late, transforming into two people upon landing on the bluestone.

Yu Lin and a young man around twenty years old.

It can be hard to make great work when its stolen from "p𝑎wread.com".

He was a young man who appeared gentle, yet not likable, and Su He felt a vague aversion towards him.

An instinct of beasts.

Yu Lin landed and pointed at Su He, saying, "Junior Brother Lu, this is the turtle I told you about. Look closely, has it eaten the Demon Morphing Fruit, and is it a beast about to undergo Demon Subduing Transformation?"

Junior Brother Lu's eyes lit up upon seeing Su He, "Indeed, it looks extraordinary. Let me test it." He took out a small mirror from his chest. This was the Heavenly Mirror, specially used to examine the Demon Morphing Fruit.

If a beast had eaten the Demon Morphing Fruit, it would be revealed by it.

The Heavenly Mirror showed no reaction—it couldn't reveal the Red Fruit, as the sloppy Old Taoist had long said.

Junior Brother Lu shook his head, "What a pity, this is a profound turtle about to evolve into an Exotic Beast, but it hasn't consumed the Demon Morphing Fruit."

Yu Lin's clenched hand slowly relaxed, though his face showed a bit of regret, "Such a pity."

If it won't undergo Demon Subduing Transformation, then yesterday's social death won't be known by anyone...

He looked at Su He with a kinder gaze, then you'll still be my fasting companion.

Junior Brother Lu put away the Heavenly Mirror and cupped his hands towards Yu Lin, "Since it's not a demon-transforming beast, I won't delay Senior Brother's practice here. Don't forget to inform me when you start your lecture, I'll come to support you!"

Junior Brother Lu knows I'm practicing here! Yu Lin blushed and cupped his hands towards his junior brother, watching him ride his sword away.

Yu Lin was silent for a moment, suppressing his sense of shame, and began the day's lecture again.

Yesterday was just a brief explanation of runes, a prelude. Today, he started from the basics, explaining rune by rune.

Even though it was just practice, he treated it extremely seriously, as if the crocodiles below were truly his junior brothers and sisters, not missing a single detail, and even sternly handling a fight among the students.

Two crocodiles somehow got into a fight, and he pointed at them with his halberd, suspending them upside down over the lake, spanking their butts with a small ruler.

The day's class ended relatively early, perhaps due to yesterday's practice, today he was much more relaxed. As the western sky was just painted with the evening glow, he ended the day's class and rode his sword away.

As night fell again, a figure slowly emerged from behind the rocks on the shore.

It was Junior Brother Lu, who had left on his sword in the morning. Now, he frowned as he looked at Su He, stepping closer step by step.
