Chapter 31 – Cross-Country Orienteering 07

The movement path that Jiang Pingce and Ke Shaobin had calculated before was the shortest distance and least time-consuming route from the foot of the mountain to the finish line. However, after going down the mountain, they soon found that there were too many teams nearby, and the point cards had been looted. If they continued on this route, they would most likely not be able to make up 60 points by the time they reached the end.

If the points were not enough, even if they reached the finish line at the specified time, it would not count as a pass.

To the southeast area, there was Liu Xiaoxiao’s team from Binjiang Normal University. To the north was the male students’ team from Xizhou Sports College. To the west was another team led by Qin Miao.

There were people everywhere, and Yue Xingwen did not want to waste time competing for points with other people. He opened the map he carried with him, looked at Jiang Pingce and said, “How about we take a different and further route and go around the periphery?”

He pointed to the map marking the finish line and said, “The exam requires us to arrive at the finish line by 00:00 tomorrow night, and I think that most student teams will start heading in the direction of the finish line today. We have been delaying an afternoon on the mountain before, and our action is slower than theirs. If we follow the large groups to the finish line, we won’t be able to pick up the point cards.”

Today was the most crucial day of the exams and all the student teams were already on the move and they were seizing the time to scourge around for points. Their area had the most teams landing, densely packed, and most of the point cards along the way had already been looted. It would be too hard for them to make it to 60 points by going the same way to the finish line, walking behind the rest of other teams to pick up the leftovers.

—— Their strategy must be changed.

Meeting Yue Xingwen’s serious gaze, Jiang Pingce looked down at the map and agreed without hesitation, “Okay, I’ll re-calculate the path and we won’t take the original route.”

Yue Xingwen pointed to the periphery of the deserted island and said, “Let’s go in the opposite direction, to the periphery.”

Liu Zhaoqing came over to look at the map and said, “If it’s like the PUBG game, the safety circle will narrows in the middle of the deserted island, but we run the other way to the outer edge? In that case, we will be getting farther and farther away from the finish line, can we get in time to rush back?”

Yue Xingwen said confidently, “There’s still time. When necessary, I can accelerate the team with ‘As Fast As Lightning’, and Pingce’s coordinate system can also throw us hundreds of meters at a time.” He looked at Jiang Pingce and suggested, “Today, we simply go to the periphery to collect points, and after saving 60 points, we will rush to the finish line tomorrow.”

Their original plan was to collect points along the way as they walked towards the finish line. Now, there were too many teams along the way and their plan would not work, so Yue Xingwen simply changed the strategy.

This ‘reverse route’ approach was also a good idea.

Jiang Pingce quickly calculated the data and said, “This is a bit risky. On the third day, we have to get to the finish line as fast as possible. But, Xingwen is right, we have an acceleration kind of skill and there’s still time.”

Since he had calculated the distance and thought there was still time, his teammates had nothing to object to.

Liu Zhaoqing and Ke Shaobin looked at each other and nodded, “Okay, we’ll listen to Xingwen!”

Jiang Pingce quickly calculated the path, and Ke Shaobin modified the data in his laptop, and the group headed towards the direction of the southern coast.

Xiao Tu walked ahead to scout, and within half an hour, the light on its head lit up—— A card was pressed under a rock in front of them ,emitting a soft green light. Yue Xingwen walked over, flipped over the rock and dug the card out of the soil.

With 5 points in hand, their points became 30. The green card was really easy to get.

The re-routed path passed through a large area of mountain forest and swamp, and then passed through a vast sandy beach to the sea. In Yue Xingwen’s opinion, the mountains, forest, swamp, were all likely the places where the point cards were hidden. However, there was no path in the forest, and Yue Xingwen kept checking the direction with his compass in order to avoid getting lost, leading his teammates all the way south.

It rained yesterday, and the ground was full of potholes with a lot of rain water in the shallow puddles and plenty of mosquitoes. Yue Xingwen’s face and hands were bitten by several mosquitoes, but Jiang Pingce, who was walking alongside him, did not attract mosquitoes at all. Yue Xingwen looked at the boy next to him, and said helplessly, “Why don’t the mosquitoes bite you, but only bite me?”

Jiang Pingce speculated and said, “Maybe your blood is tastier?”

Yue Xingwen was depressed, “My blood type is O. Is it easier for type O blood to attract mosquitoes?”

Liu Zhaoqing smiled and took a piece of gauze and handed it to him, “With this doctor in, the mosquitoes can bite you as much as they want. Come, take it and wipe it.”

Yue Xingwen took the gauze and gently applied it on the red and swollen spot of the mosquito’s bite. As soon as the gauze was placed on his face, a cool, refreshing feeling made him feel comfortable. He could not help but sigh, “Senior brother, your gauze is really useful.”

Liu Zhaoqing said, “The function of the gauze is described as healing the wound, but it can actually get rid of acne scars and make the skin smooth.”

Ke Shaobin said seriously, “This gauze is a beauty artifact. If we can bring it back to reality and sell it, senior brother will make a fortune.”

Liu Zhaoqing could not cry or laugh and said, “If the library’s skills are really brought back to reality, the whole society will be in complete chaos. A ping-pong match in the sports department can cripple many people.”

Ke Shaobin continued, “Say, why did those male students from the sports college go to the library at night?”

Yue Xingwen said, “I don’t know, they are also quite unlucky to be pulled into here. However, the sports college’s skills are a bit interesting, their escape speed is first-class, each of them is like learning martial art’s qigong…”

The three of them walked while chatting, and Jiang Pingce rarely interjected.

The sun was blazing and they were sweating from the walk. At one o’clock in the afternoon, Yue Xingwen suggested, “Let’s stop and rest for a while, and then check carefully. I don’t think there should be only one 5-point card in such a large forest.”

Jiang Pingce stopped and took out a bamboo tube from his backpack and handed it to him, “Drink some water.”

Yue Xingwen was indeed very thirsty, and took the bamboo tube, gurgling down half of it. The four of them took out the grilled fish again and ate lunch briefly before they began to carefully check the entire forest.

With Xiao Tu’s help, it was much more convenient to check.

They conducted a carpet search in the forest, which took an hour and a half, and finally found two green cards and one blue card.

The green cards were placed in the bird’s nest on the tree, and they were smashed down by Yue Xingwen’s dictionary, and they also harvested a few bird eggs and put them in their backpacks to be roasted at night.

The blue card was the same as the one encountered by Binjiang Normal University’s team, and it was placed in the hornet’s nest.

Due to the experience of senior brother Qin Lang being stung by the bee, Yue Xingwen did not directly pierce the hornet’s nest. Jiang Pingce used his coordinate system to let the entire hornet’s nest fly off into the distance, the card fell down, and they got a 10-point blue card unscathed.

Ke Shaobin adjusted his glasses with excitement, “50 points ah, we just need 10 more points to pass!”

At this time, on the leaderboard, besides the A-76 team, which was still far ahead and the first team to gather 60 points, Yue Xingwen and their C-183 Research Group was in second place with 50 points. There was a B-16 Research Group, also with 50 points, tied with them.

By the time they came out of the forest, it was already 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

Yue Xingwen took a look at the map and said, “There is a swamp outside the forest, and there should be quite a few more point cards. Let’s look for it again, everyone watch your step.”

Within a few steps, Xiao Tu’s alarm suddenly sounded.

Everyone went over to the direction provided by Xiao Tu and found a strange cave.

There were four students standing in front of the cave, two male students and two female students, with somewhat nervous expressions.

The size of the cave entrance was only allowing one person to pass, and a soft red glow was emitted inside the cave. Xiao Tu’s head lit up in alarm, apparently detecting that the point card in the cave, which was the same as the point card obtained before.

The red card should be higher than the blue card, but it was also more dangerous.

The four students standing at the entrance of the cave saw Yue Xingwen and their faces were full of wariness.

Yue Xingwen spread his hands and smiled, “Rest assured. You find it first, you can take it and we won’t grab it.” Anyway, they were just short of 10 points. The red card was difficult, and Yue Xingwen did not want to fight over the card with these students.

Ke Shaobin asked, “Is there a red card? How many points ah?”

One of the refined-looking male students heard his v
