Chapter 52 – The difficulty of crossing boundaries

Rubber came to pick up Gao Guang, and drove more than 40 kilometers to the mountains near San Fernando.

There used to be a shooting range here, but Warfire Company has just acquired it and bought the land around it, expanding it into a medium-sized training camp in the valley.

Danny came to inspect the newly built training camp, so he had time to meet Gao Guang, which was different from what Gao Guang initially thought. He really thought Danny had come to Los Angeles specifically to see him.

But the fact that Danny took the time to inspect it already proved that he valued Gao Guang.

In the reception room of the Lokenshan Training Camp, Gao Guang met Danny.

Danny was discussing something with a few people, but when he saw Gao Guang enter with Rubber, he stood up to welcome him.

Danny was different from what Gao Guang had imagined. He thought Danny was like Frank, emitting a military style, but after seeing Danny, he understood why Frank and John always said Danny was a businessman.

Danny was about 1.7 meters tall, not too tall among Caucasians, and his body was not well-managed, with a beer belly and a slightly fat body, completely incompatible with the words burly and lean.

Wearing a dark gray suit, a red and blue striped tie, neatly tied around his neck, and a well-groomed hairstyle, his confident and gentle smile made Danny particularly suitable for the image of a senior professional manager.

Danny said to Rubber, "Larry, long time no see, how are you?"

It turned out that Rubber's real name was Larry, which Gao Guang had just learned.

"Don't call me Larry, just call me Rubber."

Danny also reached out to George and smiled, "George, glad to see you again, welcome back, you know my attitude, I have been waiting for you to join."

George and Danny shook hands, but then hugged lightly.

Finally, Danny looked at Gao Guang, reached out his hand and smiled, "Hello, I'm Danny Inglewood, you can call me Danny. I suppose you are the Mad Dog that Rubber mentioned."

Gao Guang paused, he couldn't imagine someone calling someone else a mad dog when they first met.

He really wanted to ask Danny if he knew about manners, but Gao Guang reached out and shook Danny's hand after he extended it, respectfully saying, "Hello, my name is Gao Guang, nice to meet you."

After shaking hands firmly a few times, Danny withdrew his right hand and smiled, "Thank you for coming. Rubber and George recommended you to join our company. They said you are a very good young man and a talented person. This has aroused my curiosity. You just finished an operation in Colombia, where you shot and killed at least fourteen people with a pistol in a guerrilla camp, and saved Caps' life. Is that right?"

You can't be modest in front of Americans. Gao Guang thought for a moment and said, "Yes, that's right."At this moment, a person sitting still in a chair said, "Is it worth our personal assessment to kill a few drug dealers?"

He was a man in his thirties, very strong, wearing a T-shirt, with thick arms exposed, which looked almost as thick as Gao Guang's thighs.

Rubber looked at the person who spoke and said, "That's the guerrilla of the Brother Wu organization, not drug dealers. If you don't believe it, you can try it yourself."

Rubber was always straightforward and had a sharp tongue. He also liked to provoke, so he didn't hesitate to retort.

Danny smiled and pointed to the person who spoke, "Let me introduce, this is Hans, my assistant, and this is Bruce, our human resources manager."

Hans was the one who spoke just now, very strong, but Bruce looked normal, with a pair of glasses and a thin and tall figure, looking like a cultured person.

But Hans and Bruce didn't sound like normal names. Gao Guang hesitated and asked, "Does Bruce mean blue?"

Bruce nodded and smiled, "Yes."

After a brief conversation between Gao Guang and Bruce, Danny said calmly, "The Warfire Military Group has strict regulations and a complete process for recruiting new members, but Rubber, George, and I have been old friends for many years, and I still trust Frank's judgment. So when Rubber asked me to personally recruit you to join Warfire, I was curious and surprised because this is the first time Rubber has recommended a new member to me. Therefore, I must come and personally assess you."

Gao Guang nodded and said, "Thank you."

"No need to thank me. Are you ready?"

"I'm ready."

Danny smiled and said gently, "This is our newly built training camp, which is about to open. It is aimed at training the National Guard and law enforcement units in California. You are lucky to be the first candidate to be assessed in this training camp. Alright, let's begin."

Rubber quickly said, "I want to declare that Mad Dog is a newcomer. Don't forget that he has never received any formal training when you assess him."

Hans immediately said, "He's just a rookie who doesn't know anything. I'm curious, has being a rookie become a bonus point now?"

Rubber immediately said, "If a rookie can perform so well, what will happen after a little training?"

Danny waved his hand with a smile and said, "Let Gao... use his performance to speak. Let's begin."

No wonder Danny can be a big boss. After Gao Guang subtly expressed his dislike for the name Mad Dog, Danny immediately started calling him by his name, even though his pronunciation was not quite accurate. At least he didn't call him Mad Dog again.

Gao Guang was a little nervous, so he immediately asked, "What are the assessment content and standards?"

Bruce immediately said, "We have a set of comprehensive assessment standards for combat personnel, and of course, there are other standards for administrative or logistical personnel. We adopt a GPA scoring system. As for the specific assessment content and scoring standards, we cannot tell you yet."Gao Guang sighed and said, "Okay, I'm ready."

Danny immediately said, "Let's start with shooting. Rubber said you're a shooting genius, and I really want to see it."

But Bru immediately said, "Sorry, I have to start with the written test first."

Gao Guang was surprised and asked, "There's a written test?"

"It's just a few simple questions. Have you ever served in the military? If so, which unit did you serve in?"

Bru picked up a form and a pen. Gao Guang hesitated for a moment and said, "I haven't served in the military."

Bru checked a box on the form and continued, "Do you have any combat specialties? Specifically, any special skills outside of basic infantry skills, such as special driving, operating any kind of weapon, operating any large equipment, maintenance, such as planes, tanks, armored vehicles, helicopters, ships, and drone control. If you have any special skills, please let me know."

Gao Guang opened his mouth, but in the end, he could only say, "No."

Rubber urgently said, "Mad Dog is a language learner. He knows Spanish, and he's Chinese, of course he can speak Chinese. You're speaking English to him. You've seen his English level. Isn't that a special skill?"

Bru looked at Rubber and said, "Please don't interrupt me. Questioning is my job."

After saying that, Bru looked at Gao Guang and said, "Please describe your language proficiency."

"I can speak three languages. Chinese is my mother tongue, and I can communicate fluently in English and Spanish."

Bru wrote something on the form, then said seriously, "So, you're not a qualified infantryman. Can I understand it this way?"

"Yes."

Bru checked a big X on the form and said to Danny, "No need to ask in detail. We can move on to the next item."

Hans, the muscular man, immediately said aggressively, "Follow me and let me see how good your pistol is."

Gao Guang, who was known as a genius, became nervous, especially when he arrived at the outdoor shooting range to demonstrate the gun skills that Danny was curious about.

Using his own M1911, Gao Guang emptied a magazine at a target 25 meters away. Then, Danny and the other two started whispering to each other.

"His pistol is ordinary, not bad, but not really good either."

Danny's expression was a bit serious, while Hans immediately said, "It's too ordinary, just an average person's level. I can't see where the genius is."

Bru wrote a C in the pistol shooting column on the form and whispered, "My evaluation is a C."

At this point, although Rubber didn't hear what Danny and the others were saying, he couldn't wait to say, "Mad Dog, use your left hand to shoot, use both hands to shoot, relax a bit, just like shooting in the rainforest. You can't be like everyone else, otherwise, how can you show that you're a genius!"

After saying that, Rubber added seriously, "Don't embarrass me!"

The problem was that Gao Guang didn't know how to shoot to live up to his title of genius, even though Rubber had imposed that title on him.

Danny waved his hand and said, "Let's see the rifle shooting and sniper rifle shooting."So Gao Guang fired the M4 rifle, and then the Remington M700 with a scope.

The rifle was just average, nothing special, but when it came to sniper rifles, Gao Guang was terrible.

Because the sniper rifle Hans gave him didn't have the scope adjusted, Gao Guang had to adjust it himself before he could shoot accurately. Adjusting the scope was also part of his assessment for using the sniper rifle.

Gao Guang twisted the scope back and forth, but in the end, he couldn't get the gun to work. He had never touched this thing before and had never been taught how to use it. The knowledge he learned from the internet didn't seem to be helpful at this time, so he unfortunately scored zero.

The evaluation for the mid-range shooting of the rifle given to Gao Guang by Bru was a D, and the sniper rifle shooting was an F.

The GPA system is a 4-point system with five levels: A is 4 points, B is 3 points, C is 2 points, D is 1 point, and F is 0 points.

Now Gao Guang's score is based on individual scores, and he will also receive an overall evaluation score, but based on Gao Guang's current performance, he is in trouble.

Enduring the feeling of embarrassment and shame, Gao Guang finished his shooting assessment, but what happened next was his nightmare.

In the physical fitness test, Gao Guang's running speed was a C, but his long-distance running assessment was a D, and his strength was an F because he was too thin and didn't meet the minimum requirements of Warfire Company.

As for the basic tactical movements of an infantryman, they were all F. Gao Guang had never been a soldier, let alone an American soldier. How could he know those tactical movements? He knew nothing.

The faces of several people became increasingly ugly. Danny still managed to maintain a smile, but everyone except him felt they were wasting their time.

Gao Guang himself felt that he was wasting his time. This was not a recruitment test for a PMC company, it was an entrance exam.

Finally, Rubber couldn't help but say, "What's the point of this assessment? When did Warfire start assessing these things?"

Danny calmly replied, "Every industry needs a standard. We are the best, so we need a high standard. You said Gao Guang was qualified to enter the Warfire Elite Force, but now it seems that he clearly does not have the basic qualifications to become a PMC."

With the words said, Bru put down the form he held and said, "I think we can end the assessment now."

"Shut up! You don't know how good his pistol is! I've said it before, he hasn't received any military training, but give him three months, and he will be the best soldier!"

Rubber shouted, pointing at Gao Guang, "Go, run, and shoot with your pistol. Let them see how you handle a gun."

Gao Guang was already tired, but after hearing Rubber's words, he looked at Danny.

Danny shrugged and smiled, "Rubber has never praised anyone like this before. In his eyes, everyone is inferior to him. Since he has been demanding this, Bru..."

Bru sighed, "This is a waste of time, but since we have to continue the assessment, let's proceed with the standard procedure. The next item is combat."Rubber's eyes lit up and he said, "Mad Dog, show them your skills! Hurry, find a stick and let them know how powerful you are!"

Bru frowned and said, "A stick? Like a baton? We don't test that because we don't need to use a stick. We only test hand-to-hand combat."

Rubber was taken aback for a moment, then he immediately said, "No! If we can't use a stick, then use a knife. Mad Dog is very skilled with a short knife. Come on, find a training knife and let me spar with him!"

Rubber was eager to complete the spar with Gao Guang that he had been putting off, but Danny shook his head, and Hans laughed and said, "A short knife? That works too, but his opponent can't be you, it can only be me."

After speaking, Hans smiled lightly and said, "If we do hand-to-hand combat, you'll say I'm bullying him, but with a knife, that won't be a problem, right?"

Rubber was speechless, and Gao Guang was already feeling cold inside.

But Bru immediately said, "Okay, knife combat instead of hand-to-hand combat. Let's begin."

Hans picked up two training knives and threw one to Gao Guang, saying, "Come on, come on."

Gao Guang held the training knife and looked at Hans, who was two sizes bigger than him. After hesitating for a moment, he finally said, "Can you tell me which unit you retired from?"

Hans was a little puzzled, but he immediately said, "Delta Force. Is there a problem?"

Looking at Hans holding the knife handle in his right hand and his left hand extended forward, Gao Guang let out a sigh and said, "You're from the army, then there's no problem. Let's do this."
