Chapter 108 – New stage

The basic training for new recruits consists of five main components: queue and discipline education, weapon usage and shooting training, tactical training, military knowledge training, and physical training.

In theory, queue and discipline training can be skipped for Gao Guang and Mike since they are private military contractors rather than soldiers. However, Thompson still included this component for them, and it even carries more weight.

The other components are relatively easy for Gao Guang. Weapon usage involves disassembling, cleaning, and shooting guns. Tactical training is useful but simple for new recruits. As for military knowledge training, it may be challenging for Mike, but Gao Guang finds it the easiest and most enjoyable because studying military knowledge is a pleasure for a military enthusiast.

Physical training is basically unnecessary.

Mike's physical fitness, endurance, and the intensity of his training in the football team are all greater than that of the new recruits. According to the fitness training level and assessment standards of the US military, Mike excels in every aspect.

As for Gao Guang, his physical fitness is naturally inferior to Mike's. He is lightweight and lacks strength, but he has no problem meeting Thompson's requirements.

For example, standing under the scorching sun for an hour is nothing to Gao Guang. It can't even compare to his level during military training in college.

The highest temperature at noon is only around 31 or 32 degrees Celsius, and the ultraviolet rays are strong but not unbearable. Standing for just an hour a day is a piece of cake, too easy.

The only aspect that shows Thompson's strictness is his high demands for the completion of each basic action. There can be no mistakes. For example, when he shouts "down," Gao Guang and Mike must immediately lie down with the fastest speed and standard movements, regardless of what they were doing. If they fail to meet his requirements, it will be troublesome.

"Down."

Gao Guang and Mike lie down simultaneously, without any distinction.

On the flat and clean ground, Gao Guang and Mike, who are being scorched by the blazing sun, lie down instantly, while Thompson, who is hiding in the shade, says in a relaxed tone, "Get up."

Gao Guang and Mike immediately stand up, standing straight.

It's monotonous and boring. It has been the same every day since the training started two weeks ago. There's really nothing much to say.

Thompson smiles, as he always does, but his smile is more obvious now.

"Congratulations, you have successfully completed the training content of the red phase. From now on, you will enter the white phase."

The training is divided into three phases: red, white, and blue. The red phase focuses on training individual basic combat skills, fostering team spirit, and physical training.

There are only a few individual basic combat skills to learn, and there's not much to practice for team spirit. It's just Gao Guang and Mike. As for physical training, they can both skip it. Then there's familiarization and usage of weapons. To put it simply, there are only three types of guns, and Gao Guang can disassemble and assemble them with his eyes closed.

But the red phase only lasts for two weeks, which is quite fast.

In the white phase, they will start to learn basic combat techniques in depth, emphasize proficiency in weapons, increase the intensity of physical training, and Thompson will reduce his direct management of Gao Guang and Mike, allowing them to develop a greater sense of responsibility and cultivate their ability to manage others and self-management.

Whether a new recruit can grow into a backbone of the unit, a junior officer in command at the grassroots level, can basically be seen in this white phase.

Thompson picks up a folder, opens it, and smiles, saying, "Starting this afternoon, we will strengthen weapon training. Gao Guang, you can start live ammunition shooting. I will observe your proficiency in using all types of guns. Mike, you also need to strengthen your weapon usage and training. I have been considering what weapon you should use during this period, and the final decision will be based on your performance."

Mike loudly says, "Yes, instructor, instructor, may I ask a question?"

"Permission granted."

"I want to know..."

Mike tilts his head back, straightens his neck, and stands with his hands against his pants seam. But when he speaks, he suddenly kicks Thompson's ankle fiercely with one leg.

Thompson doesn't know exactly how old he is, but he should be quite old. However, Thompson's reaction and speed are faster than Mike's.

Mike silently kicks Thompson's leg, but Thompson doesn't dodge or retreat. Instead, he leans to the right and moves forward, allowing Mike's foot to graze his calf, then he bends his knee and forcefully hits Mike's abdomen with his knee.

Mike is quite tall, so Thompson jumps a little to deliver the knee strike. Then, Mike lies on the ground, clutching his stomach.

"Not bad!" Thompson stands in place, holding the open folder in his left hand and a pencil in his right hand. He looks surprised and says, "You've learned how to ambush."

Mike is almost about to vomit. His mouth opens and closes, reminding Gao Guang of a fish thrown onto the shore.

Thompson looks at Gao Guang and smiles, saying, "She's making good progress. What do you think?"

Gao Guang doesn't hesitate and says, "Yes, instructor."

Thompson looks at the still writhing Mike, smacks his lips, and says, "Your ability to withstand attacks is too weak. You need to increase your body fat percentage and increase it to ten percent, to the point where you can see subcutaneous fat."

Gao Guang hasn't fired a single shot in these two weeks, but Mike has been getting beaten every day. However, Gao Guang has realized that being able to be hit by Thompson is actually quite an achievement.

Gao Guang always feels that if Thompson were to hit him, he would probably be lying down for half a month. But Mike always gets up after lying down for at most an hour. What does this mean? It means that Thompson's strikes are extremely accurate.

Otherwise, should he also practice combat with Thompson?

Mike lies on the ground, murmuring in a low voice, "I understand, gaining weight, thank you..."Mike needs to gain weight. His body fat percentage is too low and he has no fat on his body. However, having a low body fat percentage is not always beneficial, especially for combat.

Losing weight is difficult, and gaining weight is also difficult.

Gao Guang also needs to gain weight. He is over 1.8 meters tall and weighs only 120 kilograms, which is about 130 pounds. This physique determines that his ability to withstand strikes will be poor and his strength will also be poor, at least compared to those in the training camp who have big muscles. His strength is really weak.

Thompson closed the folder expressionlessly and said to Gao Guang, "You gained weight, but only four pounds. Did the food in the training camp not appeal to you?"

It was inevitable that Thompson would bring this up. He immediately mentioned Gao Guang, and he was right about one thing: the food in the training camp was really bad.

"Yes, instructor."

Gao Guang answered Thompson's question without hesitation, and then he said seriously, "I have been trying to eat more."

Thompson frowned and said, "Didn't the nutritionist give you a meal plan?"

Fifteen thousand dollars is not a small amount.

As long as Thompson makes a request, the nutritionist will create a meal plan for Gao Guang, and the cafeteria in the training camp will cook according to the plan. Gao Guang's job is to finish the food.

"Yes, I have eaten all the food prescribed by the nutritionist and consumed enough calories, but I haven't gained much weight."

Thompson said without hesitation, "Then the nutritionist is not competent. He didn't consider the differences in races and the differences in dietary habits between different regions. The intestinal flora of Asians and people in the Americas are different. If he follows general rules to create a meal plan for you, the effect will be much worse."

Gao Guang looked at Thompson in surprise, and Mike couldn't help but groan.

Thompson said to Mike, "You continue to eat according to the nutritionist's meal plan, and as for you, I will create a meal plan for you. Are you from China?"

"Yes."

"Are you from the south or the north?"

Gao Guang looked at Thompson in astonishment, and Thompson said calmly, "People from the south mainly eat rice, while people from the north mainly eat wheat-based food. However, people from the northeast are different. Their intake of rice and wheat-based food is balanced. Excluding individual differences, the food requirements of the north and south are different, and the efficiency of intestinal flora is different. So, tell me, are you from the south or the north?"

"Uh, uh, I'm from the north. I eat both rice and wheat-based food, it's about the same."

"Then a weight-gaining meal that focuses on meat and fat will not be effective. You need to increase your carbohydrate intake."

Thompson opened the folder and made a few notes, then nodded and said, "Alright, I will create a meal plan for you and give it to the training camp cafeteria. The goal is to gain ten pounds in the next week."

"Is the instructor also a part-time nutritionist?"

Gao Guang was really just curious and surprised, but Thompson smiled slightly and said, "Not only a nutritionist, but also a part-time psychologist."

Looking at Mike still lying on the ground, Thompson smiled and said, "What did you learn from today's lesson?"

Mike's stomach was not as painful anymore, so he straightened his curled-up body and lay flat on the ground. He said with a hopeless expression, "I don't want to be a combat star anymore. I don't have the talent..."

"No, you have talent. You have learned how to ambush."

Thompson knelt down on one knee and looked sincerely at Mike, "You have made great progress. Your ability to withstand strikes has improved a lot. From today, you can start learning combat skills. Don't give up, believe me, you will soon master the essence of combat."

Mike sighed softly and said with doubt, "Really? You don't want to fight me, you just want to continue torturing me, right?"

Thompson said very seriously, "I take every one of my students seriously. You really have talent, you really have potential. I have high hopes for you to become a star. Don't give up, you can do it! You will definitely succeed!"

I don't know if the fifteen thousand dollars is worth it, but when Gao Guang looked at Thompson's appearance, he couldn't help but recall how he had fooled Mike. Anyway, it was more or less the same.

But the effect was really good. As soon as he heard the word "star," Mike immediately became spirited. The frustrations he had experienced in the past few days disappeared. He struggled to sit up and said with determination, "Okay, when I start learning combat skills, I will definitely... Thank you, instructor!"

Thompson seemed to not understand the underlying meaning of Mike's words. He nodded in satisfaction and suddenly looked at Gao Guang, saying, "You haven't focused on combat training much. I think combat is still important for a PMC. How about adding some combat training?"

Combat is indeed useful. Since Thompson extended the invitation, Gao Guang didn't hesitate and said directly, "Yes, instructor, I am willing to add combat training."

Today, there are only two chapters. Some people may not like the training part. I'll think about how to write the next part.
