Chapter 125 – Long night

The waves surged on the river.

The tide ebbed and flowed.

Song Ci remained calm, like a wolf among sheep. With his own strength, he easily suppressed the powerful figures of the Chengxin Club. With every punch he threw, a burst of mist would shatter and spread across the river, creating a web of white mist.

One after another, figures were thrown out like broken sacks.

At the beginning of the battle beneath the Huazhi Building, many still believed that the Crow would fall at the hands of Chen San's three disciples tonight.

No one expected that tonight's battle on the riverbank would be nothing short of a massacre.

There was no suspense in this battle, just a complete one-sided crushing.

The sky shrouded the cold river, but even with the blessing of this domain, no one was a match for Song Ci. Wu Yong's proud swordsmanship didn't even have a chance to be unsheathed... The battle on the river continued, but by now, Qilv had already anticipated the final outcome.

He still had a purple silver bullet in his hand.

This bullet couldn't change the outcome, the course of the battle... or anything else.

Because even with "Hawkeye" at its maximum, he still couldn't catch sight of the Crow. He was always a step behind, the man moved as fast as lightning.

"I'm going to remove the 'sky curtain'."

A very light voice entered Qilv's ears.

Mist swirled on the river, countless water droplets fell, and everyone looked towards the river, but they couldn't see anything unusual in the night. The ability of the "sky curtain" was to obscure vision and alter the properties of a part of the domain.

The master of this domain, in fact, had been in this battlefield from the beginning. He stood at the farthest end of the sky curtain from Song Ci, shrouded in mist, refracted by the light, almost transparent.

"Do we still have a chance?" Big Brother remained calm, he asked seriously, "If we can hit that purple silver bullet, perhaps there is still a chance."

"...It's impossible." Qilv looked somewhat despondent, the ink color in his pupils dissipated, and Hawkeye was no longer activated.

Activating Hawkeye to track the Crow's movements was a waste of mental energy.

Although he was unwilling, the man holding the sniper rifle had to admit that tonight's operation was a complete failure.

"Even if you give me ten more bullets, I still won't be able to hit him, because the gap is too wide..." Qilv laughed at himself, "The Crow is completely different from the rumors. The information from Huazhi said he was a brute who was supported by his wife to rise to power, but in fact, he has both courage and strategy. I can't think of any way to restrain him."

"Unless..." He paused.

The man standing at the farthest point in the river spoke for him.

"Unless Chen Wu is willing to take action."

Qilv fell silent, nodding slowly.

Yes.

This was the only solution he could think of. The only thing that could suppress a monster was another monster. He had self-awareness, knowing that as a transcendent of his level, he was still just an ordinary person in the top-tier world.

"Chen Wu won't care about the Chengxin Club's affairs... He only does what he likes to do."

The transparent figure of Big Brother walked slowly on the river, reaching out with both hands to lift the unconscious Wu Yong and the Fourth Brother onto his shoulders.

Then he looked up, and the blue arc of the sky curtain gradually dimmed.

Big Brother's voice echoed, "Don't waste the bullets, prepare to withdraw."

This voice also reached the ears of every transcendent who had attacked Song Ci.

In the surging waves of the river, Song Ci stood with one hand behind his back, revealing only a fist. That fist was stained with mottled blood, but not a single drop was his own. The crowd respected him from a distance, and no one dared to enter his five-meter radius.

This sky curtain was both protection and a prison.

The few minutes of fighting against Song Ci felt like a century.

The sound of retreat came, and everyone breathed a sigh of relief. If possible, they never wanted to face the Crow again, not even for a second.

But Song Ci didn't miss the subtle changes in the expressions of these transcendent individuals.

"Do you want to leave?" The Crow chuckled softly, then turned to look in the direction of the misty river, "Have you... made a mistake?"

This glance made Big Brother, standing at the end of the sky curtain, feel a little uneasy.

In this domain, vision was distorted, and people outside couldn't see the inside, and similarly... even if you were inside, you shouldn't be able to see yourself clearly.

"I said before... I'm waiting for people on the riverbank. If you come, I'll let them go." The Crow sighed softly, "Madam has always taught me to do things in a proper and upright manner, so I can be justified."

With that, he looked towards the distant riverbank dam.

The surface cause of everything tonight... that poor guy who was dragged out of the third floor of Huazhi for a violation, had already been struck in the throat by a "family member's" purple silver bullet, and had bled to death.

"I'm ready to let them go. But you won't let it go." The Crow said softly, "In the rules of the underground, there shouldn't be any protection for your actions... If you want to kill me, be prepared to be killed by me."

To the transcendent individuals, these words were no different from pronouncing the final judgment.

Every Chengxin Club transcendent who was preparing to retreat tensed up again, ready to fight once more.

"Do you want to... negotiate?"

But the same words, when they reached Big Brother's ears, were different.

In his view, if the Crow only wanted to kill his group... then with the Crow's strength, this battle would have ended long ago.

He didn't need to lure people from the riverbank to the tributary near the South Bay, nor did he need to delay time.Accompanied by this voice, a blurred figure slowly approached from the river, with countless suspended droplets swirling around the man, as the river's surface formed an ice bridge beneath him.

He carried his two sworn brothers on his shoulders, and the crowd parted to make way for him.

"Su Cha," the eldest brother spoke slowly, stating his name before offering faint praise, "I've long heard of the unmatched bravery of the Northern City Crows. Tonight, seeing it for myself, it indeed holds true."

Song Ci couldn't help but laugh a little.

But it was just a laugh.

Such laughter, dry and devoid of satisfaction or joy, sounded more like mockery and disdain.

In truth, the Crow bore no contempt for Su Cha; he simply found it amusing.

To offer compliments after defeat was something he couldn't do... just as he couldn't press his advantage with overwhelming force, only to call for retreat when the tide of battle turned.

Should one say the opponent lacked backbone, or was simply too adept at judging the situation?

The Crow scrutinized the man who had made his appearance last, the man whose hiding place he had long since figured out... He didn't possess the eyes of an eagle, nor any enchanted item to aid his vision; all he had were his fists and a heart that was open and vast.

So... he closed his eyes.

And saw even clearer.

When that punch was thrown, the entire sky trembled, the domain nearly shattered by his own hand. The Transcendent maintaining this realm would surely have to invest more power, and the only place unaffected, still stable... was the original spot where Su Cha was shrouded by the river mist.

Su Cha was too cautious, too afraid of being discovered by the Crow.

And yet, this made him "seen" all the more clearly... After that punch, the Crow abandoned the idea of shattering the sky. Su Cha was right; once the battle lost its suspense, the Crow's goal was no longer to crush the opponent, but to ensure the situation remained under his control.

To shift the battlefield.

To the Southern Bay Basin.

Everything he had done from the beginning... its true purpose was to buy time, for Gu Shen to head to the Southern Bay Building to steal information from the closed-circuit mainframe, and he needed to buy Gu Shen time, at least not to let these people go back.

Most importantly, he had promised his wife not to cause trouble.

"I heard Mr. Chen San say he wanted to skin me alive," Song Ci spoke softly.

"Although my adoptive father never goes back on his word, that statement was indeed made in a fit of rage and should not be taken seriously," Su Cha smiled.

"But you should know, he values the feelings of those close to him... so he was very angry about the previous incident." Su Cha's tone shifted, his demeanor far from humble as he effortlessly coped with the pressure exerted by the Crow, "Last time, it was the lady who stepped in to smooth things over for you. If you go on a killing spree tonight, even she won't be able to protect you."

Hearing this, Song Ci narrowed his eyes and fell silent.

According to the rules.

Both sides would take their people and release others; there should be no further disputes tonight.

But Su Cha had made a move... and the Crow had retaliated, which could be seen as mutual rule-breaking, cancelling each other out in terms of the rules.

If someone were to take a harsh action, causing the "death" of an important figure, then the nature of the matter would change.

Su Cha was a cunning man.

In fact, their purpose for coming here was to kill the Crow.

If they succeeded... the cost of the matter would not be difficult to bear.

They could afford it.

On the other hand... it was different for the Crow's side.

Song Ci was neither willing to bear the cost nor inclined to kill the four sworn sons of Chen San before him. In his eyes, they were not important figures, nor were they worth such a sacrifice.

Seeing Song Ci's silent response.

Su Cha became even more convinced that his words had prompted serious consideration from the other party.

So he spoke further, "Let's end tonight's matter here... it's the best outcome for both of us. The lady won't pursue your responsibility, and we can repair the relationship between us."

The Crow closed his eyes.

He seemed to be pondering.

A faint murmur arose from the crowd, but Su Cha, patient as ever, raised his hand to signal everyone to silence, waiting for the other's response.

After a long time.

"Tonight, I'll let you go... and we'll consider the matter settled..."

The Crow's voice spread over the river's surface.

It was finally ending... the Transcendents, still tense, had not yet had the chance to show any emotion of relief on their faces.

The Crow's voice rose again.

"Su Cha... that's what you wanted to hear, isn't it?"
