Chapter 51 – First flight

Joja was not joking. Since Ayou told him about her situation yesterday, he had this idea.

A legitimate company, a decent career. It doesn't matter what the future holds, but first, he needs to have a reasonable explanation for his funds.

Tourism companies, aircraft leasing companies, and hunting companies are registered separately. Although Joja doesn't fully understand them, there is a lot of financial maneuvering space.

SD Bank is not reliable, but there are many Chinese banks in SD. It should be normal for him, a Chinese person, to make a big career here and earn some money, right?

Of course, these are just small-scale activities for now, but for Joja, it's enough for the time being.

He explained his ideas to Sairimu. Although this guy looked at him like he was a fool, Joja didn't mind at all. In fact, he was in a good mood and felt like laughing at everyone.

The next afternoon, two helicopters landed on the runway of the airport according to the coordinates provided by Joja.

After carefully inspecting the condition of the aircraft, Joja settled the accounts with the two pilots and arranged for Sairimu to drive them to Khamu, where they would take a plane back to Egypt.

Then, Joja personally refueled the little antelope and took Kaman and Nis with him, flying towards the direction of Darfur under the cover of night.

The little antelope can only fly up to 800 kilometers when fully fueled. Joja carefully controlled the aircraft and made a stopover for refueling at a small airport outside a city called Obeid. The entire flight took eight hours and they arrived over the valley where the arsenal was located just as the sky was getting bright.

This flight was a bit of an experiment. Joja himself was an excellent mechanic and could monitor the condition of the little antelope at any time.

But as a novice, he needed to figure out how aircraft operations worked in SD.

What surprised him was that there was no such thing as air traffic control here. As long as you weren't hovering over Khartoum, no one would bother you if you flew to other cities.

When he wanted to land at the airport, he just needed to turn on the radio and someone would guide him to land at a certain spot in the airport, charging a hefty fee for parking.

On the other hand, refueling was not that expensive. Joja had calculated that the aviation fuel here was even cheaper than the price of 95-octane gasoline in China.

It cost a little over one yuan per liter of fuel. It was actually cheaper to fly a helicopter here than to drive a car in China. Can you believe it?

Joja had always thought that helicopters were high-end things. Although he had already experienced various bizarre operations in Egypt, he still felt a bit magical coming to SD.

Too casual, too simple!

According to the ground crew at the airport, if you weren't picky, you could completely find a remote place to park and call them. They would come by car to refuel.

Of course, this price would be much cheaper than parking at the airport, and the aviation fuel they provided was definitely not theirs.

There is a saying that there is a way for snakes and a way for rats. If you don't actually experience it, you won't know how strange this world is compared to what you imagine.

Joja piloted the little antelope and slowly landed in the military arsenal under the morning sun.

After being away for half a year, there were no changes here except for more dust on the tanks and armored vehicles parked in the open.

Joja had Kaman open the garage door and went in to find a hydraulic cart specifically used to tow helicopters. He towed the little antelope inside.

Then he looked at the idle Mi-8 transport planes and rubbed his hands, smiling as he said, "We need one Mi-8. Kaman, you and Nis will be responsible for preparing the weapons, and I will be responsible for getting this big guy up and running.

The Nur people need a lot of goods, so we may need to make three trips."

Nis, a little curious, said, "I can also fly a helicopter. You can prepare two of them."

Joja nodded and said, "That's what I initially thought too, but if two Mi-8s fly within SD, I think it would be too conspicuous.

Let's test-fly one first. If the route is relatively safe, we'll use two helicopters for the next trip to transport the remaining goods."

Saying that, Joja looked around the hangar and sighed, "It would be great if we could sell these helicopters. We are too close to Libya here, and there is a risk in playing with them.

If I could find a transit route to Syria, I'm sure I could find buyers there."

Looking at Joja's appearance, Nis hesitated for a moment and said, "I suggest you not be too hasty. Those who can afford and use helicopters basically don't need to buy from you. And those who can't afford it, no matter how you promote it, it's useless."

Joja, upon hearing this, also felt the same. Armed helicopters are really not something that small countries can afford to play with.It wasn't that they couldn't afford it, but the maintenance and supporting armaments were too much of a hassle. Having a few transport planes with machine guns mounted in the cabin was already considered high-end for them.

The matter of selling helicopters could be put aside for now. Joja used a detector to find the best-conditioned Mi-8, and with the help of tools, he single-handedly completed the preparation work for this helicopter. Finally, he dragged the aircraft out of the hangar and filled it up with fuel using a refueling truck.

The aircraft's own fuel tank, plus two external fuel tanks, held a total of 3100 liters of fuel, which could allow it to fly about 1100 kilometers when fully loaded.

While Kaman and Nis were sorting out the armaments, Joja tried it out on an open space in the valley and found that the Mi-8 helicopter was surprisingly easy to control.

This type of aircraft, known as the AK47 of helicopters, was indeed simple and practical.

The exact model that Joja was piloting should be the Mi-8T military transport type.

By removing the 24 seats in the back, a cargo space of 7 meters long and 2.4 meters wide could be obtained.

If you looked at the entire aircraft from the side, it actually looked like a giant dragonfly attached to the top of a bus. Compared to the domineering Mi-28, the Mi-8 was indeed like its codename, a 'Hippopotamus'.

But a 'Hippopotamus' could also be terrifying when angered. If Joja felt the need, he could completely choose a few other armed models with weapon mounts.

Like the B-8 rocket nest he used earlier, this big guy could carry four at a time, and the belly and the remaining two mounts could choose anti-tank missiles and more powerful aerial bombs.

Unfortunately, Joja really didn't dare to be too ostentatious. Mounting a machine gun and a grenade launcher inside the two side cabin doors, he felt it was enough.

After trying for a few hours, Joja was satisfied and landed the aircraft on the open ground, refueled it, and then found a quiet place in the armory to rest for the night.
