Chapter 7 – Purchase equipment

After reading the introduction to the safe house, Zhang Yi immediately selected his service package.

First up was full-house reinforcement, starting with a complete material overhaul for their home.

The walls, ceiling, and floor were all to be made from 200mm thick alloy, replacing the original structure.

This aerospace-grade material weighed only a third of steel but boasted ten times the strength!

A safe house built from this material would fit perfectly into Zhang Yi's apartment building without any risk of structural overload.

The windows would be fitted with the world's best bulletproof glass.

Next was the ventilation system, which was upgraded to include air filtration capabilities.

No harmful gases could penetrate from outside.

Finally, there was a comprehensive surveillance system, allowing for complete, no-blind-spot monitoring of both inside and outside the house.

The doors were to be replaced with vault-like security doors of the same material used in bank vaults, impervious to even small explosives.

In short, Zhang Yi had one requirement – to turn his home into an impenetrable fortress!

After making his selections, Zhang Yi handed the computer to Wu HuaiRen.

Wu HuaiRen's eyes widened as he read through the list.

A mere 120 square meter apartment was being transformed into a fortress.

"If we add weapons, this is practically a bastion!" Wu HuaiRen murmured.

Hearing this, a glint flashed in Zhang Yi's eyes.

"Oh, you're knowledgeable about bastions?"

Wu HuaiRen chuckled, "I was a mercenary abroad once, I'm quite familiar with military and weaponry."

A spark of inspiration struck Zhang Yi.

He lowered his voice and asked Wu HuaiRen, "Do you have a way to get guns?"

The question made Wu HuaiRen's expression turn serious.

In China, private gun ownership was prohibited.

"Mr. Zhang, you should understand that, in principle, those items are not allowed for private possession," Wu HuaiRen whispered back.

"Have you encountered some formidable enemies that have made you this fearful?"

Zhang Yi seized the opportunity to explain.

"That's right, I've offended some people in the underworld. They're ruthless and armed."

"I was thinking, maybe I could get some guns for self-defense. Otherwise, I'd just be sitting duck in my house, and that's no good!"

Wu HuaiRen laughed, "Mr. Zhang, I'm afraid I can't help you with that. We are a legitimate company."

But from Wu HuaiRen's eyes, Zhang Yi could tell it wasn't that he couldn't get guns; he just didn't want to get his hands dirty.

Zhang Yi took a deep breath.

Then he said to Wu HuaiRen, "I'm spending over eight million on this safe house project. If something happens to me later, it wouldn't reflect well on your company."

He looked Wu HuaiRen in the eye and said, "I just want something for self-defense. If you can help me with this, I won't let you down."

Wu HuaiRen didn't respond immediately, weighing his options.

He certainly had the connections.

But he didn't know Zhang Yi's background well enough to risk making an introduction.

"You go ahead and return home. I can't do this for you, but I can ask around. If there's any news, I'll contact you."

Wu HuaiRen was clearly undecided.

However, Zhang Yi didn't press too hard; firearms were indeed a delicate matter.

He smiled, "Alright, I'll wait for your news."

"And please, I need the safe house as soon as possible."

Wu HuaiRen replied, "Give us at most half a month, and we'll have it built for you."

After finalizing the details with Wu HuaiRen, Zhang Yi signed the contract on the spot.

He also paid a deposit of one million yuan.

As for the remaining balance, well, he wasn't planning on paying that in this lifetime.

Leaving War Dragon Security behind, his living arrangements were essentially settled.

Next, Zhang Yi called an acquaintance, Liu Yang, from his car.

Liu Yang ran a hunting ground in Tianhai City.

He had leased several hundred acres of land in the Western Hills, stocked with various harmless animals for recreational hunting.

Liu Yang had access to legally obtained crossbows, compound bows, and air guns.

Zhang Yi had visited a few times before and had Liu Yang's contact information.

He called Liu Yang to buy a batch, offering to pay a premium.

As a businessman, and someone who occasionally asked favors of Zhang Yi, Liu Yang readily agreed to the deal.

"Brother Zhang, what do you need all these weapons for? They're only for hunting or personal amusement. You can't use them to harm people!"

Liu Yang asked with a laugh, though his tone carried a hint of caution.

After all, he would be the one selling these items.

If Zhang Yi ended up using the weapons to hurt someone, Liu Yang would also be in trouble.

Of course, anyone capable of running a hunting ground in Tianhai City had connections.

But there was no need to take risks over a mere acquaintance like Zhang Yi.

Zhang Yi laughed it off, quickly making up an excuse, "You're overthinking it! I've arranged a hunting trip with some friends to an African wildlife park. So I need to stock up on equipment!"

Liu Yang clicked his tongue, "Wow, Brother Zhang knows how to live! But be careful in Africa; there are lions and hyenas out there!"

"Sure, sure. So, when can you have the equipment ready for me?"

"Hey, I've got it in stock. Just swing by when you're free to pick it up."

Not one to dawdle, Zhang Yi immediately drove to the Western Hills hunting ground and purchased the equipment.

Time was precious, and he couldn't afford to waste a moment.

From Liu Yang, he bought five steel crossbows, three high-end compound bows, and three hundred arrows and bolts each.

Additionally, he acquired two fine hunting knives.

It can be hard to make great work when its stolen from "p𝑎wread.com".

Made from Damascus steel, they were incredibly tough and sharp, unlikely to be damaged unless used to hack at hard materials for extended periods.

These were perfect for self-defense (or cutting someone down)!

He filled the trunk of his car with all the gear.

Looking at the pile of equipment, Zhang Yi felt a strong sense of security.

He then hauled the load of equipment back home.

Since everything was purchased through official channels, and he had a hunting license for recreation, he wasn't worried about police inquiries.

By the time he got home, it was dusk.

Zhang Yi went out again, this time to indulge in a hearty meal at Hai Di Lao Hot Pot.

Thinking that he'd have to make his own hot pot in the future, he spontaneously ordered 10,000 servings of hot pot base from Hai Di Lao.

The staff were stunned, thinking Zhang Yi might be from a rival business causing trouble.

But thanks to Hai Di Lao's excellent service, they didn't turn him away.

Later, the manager came over, inquired about Zhang Yi's order, and accepted the deal.

The condition was cash payment, to prevent any sabotage from rival businesses.

Zhang Yi readily paid over a million yuan on the spot.

His generous spending left the manager grinning from ear to ear, and he even threw in an extra 500 servings for Zhang Yi.
