Chapter 14 – Extreme low temperature, I laugh at the outside world's changes

The Ice Age had begun its prelude.

In Tianhai City to the south, heavy snow began to fall like goose feathers, stirring a flurry of discussions online. Some complained, while others rejoiced.

But none of them knew that this snowfall and the plummeting temperatures were not temporary. They would persist and intensify.

Eventually, they would bring a disaster that no one could withstand.

At this moment, however, Zhang Yi was lying comfortably on his sofa at home, enjoying the cozy warmth of over 20 degrees in his safe house, sipping on chilled Budweiser beer, utterly content.

Suddenly, his phone began to ring.

Picking it up, he saw it was his chat groups buzzing with activity.

His old classmates, hobby groups, and the property owners' group from his neighborhood were all chatting away.

"My God, why did it suddenly start snowing so heavily? The weather forecast didn't mention this!"

"I was frozen awake in the middle of the night, had to get up and turn on the heater."

"Don't even mention it, our lousy heater isn't effective at all, it's been on for ages and it's only getting colder."

"I don't know how long this cold weather will last, I haven't even bought my winter clothes yet!"

Everyone was chattering away, expressing their feelings in a cacophony of voices.

Zhang Yi could sense that most people didn't take the sudden drop in temperature seriously, some even found it pleasantly surprising.

But Zhang Yi knew very well that this was only temporary.

He yawned, deciding not to continue reading.

Returning to his warm bed, Zhang Yi pulled the thin velvet blanket over himself and comfortably closed his eyes.

His bed was extremely comfortable, a high-end product he had moved from the Walmart warehouse.

Especially the mattress, rumored to be the same model used by a certain female celebrity, valued at 3 million.

Outside, the heavy snowfall and howling winds contrasted with the pleasant warmth provided by the roaring fireplace inside the house.

In such a comfortable environment, Zhang Yi quickly drifted off to sleep.

...

The next morning, Zhang Yi was awakened by the ringing of his phone.

Opening his eyes, he saw that it was Fang Yuqing, the White Lotus, calling him.

His good dream interrupted, Zhang Yi was naturally in a foul mood.

He picked up the phone and asked irritably, "Hello, why are you calling me so early in the morning?"

Fang Yuqing was taken aback by Zhang Yi's icy tone.

But quickly, she said, "Zhang Yi, it's so cold outside today! Did you stock up on supplies because you knew it was going to get this cold?"

Her voice trembled slightly as if she was struggling to endure something.

Zhang Yi's lips curled into a mocking smile upon hearing this.

As expected, the White Lotus never came without a reason.

He lazily replied, "I just heard it mentioned by a friend, but I didn't expect the temperature to drop this severely."

He threw off the blanket, feeling the high temperature in the room that made him sweat.

Putting on his slippers, Zhang Yi walked over to the floor-to-ceiling window, and the familiar scene outside made his eyes narrow.

The heavy snow had submerged the entire city; he could no longer see the streets or the bushes by the roadside.

He could only vaguely make out the outlines of the city's buildings, with many first floors half-submerged in snow.

And the snow was still falling, goose-feather-like flakes relentlessly descending upon the earth without any sign of stopping.

On the phone, Fang Yuqing continued, "No wonder you stocked up so much, Zhang Yi. You really should have told me about this in advance. I got so cold!"

Zhang Yi frowned, surprised that she had the audacity to complain to him.

He hung up the phone and tossed it aside.

Then, he went to the bathroom and comfortably took a hot shower.

Afterward, he took out a top-grade A5 Wagyu steak from his space and had it for breakfast with pasta.

While eating, he turned on the TV.

The power hadn't gone out yet due to the recent temperature drop, so the TV was still working.

Even if there was a power outage, Zhang Yi had prepared various backup power sources, dozens of generators, and a massive amount of gasoline.

With regards to energy, he was set for at least three hundred years!

After turning on the TV, Zhang Yi first tuned into the morning news channel.

Although as a reborn individual, he knew what the situation outside was like.

But at times like these, watching the state of the outside world was a form of entertainment.

On the news channel, both anchors were wearing thick down jackets.

It was well known that places like TV stations, where central air conditioning was generously provided and prioritized for power, would not skimp on heating.

Search "pawℝead.com" for the original.

But the fact that the anchors needed down jackets indicated that the temperature had reached a point where central air conditioning could not fully compensate.

The female anchor, facing the camera, tried to speak in a steady tone, "Last night, a strong cold air mass hit various parts of the world, causing a drastic change in global temperatures. The average temperature dropped by 70 to 100 degrees Celsius."

"The meteorological department is investigating the cause of this cold air mass."

"In the next few days, please make sure to keep warm and avoid frostbite."

"If it's not necessary, try not to go outside."

"The authorities will properly resolve this issue, so we hope everyone will not panic."

"Do not spread or believe rumors, and do not engage in panic buying of supplies. The snow disaster will pass soon."

Hearing the female anchor's words, Zhang Yi snorted in derision.

After the Ice Age arrived, survival depended on oneself. If one foolishly stayed at home doing nothing, they would surely be among the first to die.

The top right corner of the TV screen displayed the outdoor temperature in Tianhai City at minus 65 degrees!

Just yesterday during the day, the highest temperature in Tianhai City was 15 degrees, meaning the temperature had dropped by 80 degrees in one go!

Zhang Yi shrugged. This degree of temperature drop was exactly the same as in his previous life.

But now, wearing his pajamas, sipping wine, and eating steak with pasta, he felt none of the cold from outside.

After all, he had spent 8 million to build this safe house, with a special emphasis on insulation, so the temperature inside hardly escaped.

At this moment, Zhang Yi's phone rang again.

He was curious to see what those neighbors who had laughed at him before were talking about now.

The first message he saw was from Fang Yuqing.

"Zhang Yi, why did you suddenly hang up on me!"

"It's snowing so heavily outside, I can't go out. You bought a lot of food, right? Can you lend me some? I'll pay you back after the snow disaster is over."

Zhang Yi raised an eyebrow, a cold smile playing on his lips.

The White Lotus was smart, knowing that with such heavy snow, food would become very expensive.

She didn't want to risk the sub-zero temperatures to go out and wanted to ask Zhang Yi for food.

But Zhang Yi knew that this Ice Age disaster would last a very long time and would not pass quickly.

Moreover, he had no intention of giving Fang Yuqing even a bite!

In his previous life, he was fooled by this White Lotus, giving her a lot of his own food.

In the end, she actually caused his death and even wanted to boil his ribs for soup!

For such a woman, Zhang Yi now only wanted to play with her and then watch her die miserably.

With this thought, a mocking smile appeared on his lips as he sent a message to Fang Yuqing.

"If you had said so earlier, I've almost eaten up all the stuff I've hoarded. Look, I just fried this steak this morning!"

After saying that, Zhang Yi took a selfie with himself in his pajamas and the steak and wine on the table, then sent it to Fang Yuqing.
