Chapter 49 – Zhang Yi asked for a loan with a shy face

Wang Min and Sun Zhichao were thrilled to hear that Zhang Yi had medicine!

When facing death, people will cling to any lifeline.

Struggling, Sun Zhichao asked, "Is it true? Does he... does he really have medicine?"

Wang Min stared intently at Fang Yuqing, "Don't lie to us! Because of you, several of us are seriously injured."

Now, just hearing the name Zhang Yi made her heart skip a beat.

Fang Yuqing explained, "About a month ago, Zhang Yi started to change. He began hoarding things like crazy at home."

"I saw delivery trucks bringing him stuff almost every day."

"Once, I saw a pharmaceutical company's truck arrive at our complex, and Zhang Yi went to meet it."

"They carried two large boxes into his place. They must have been full of medicine!"

Upon hearing this, Zhou Ke'er added, "Antibiotics aren't rare drugs. If he really stocked up in anticipation of the disaster, he must have a large supply of antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs."

As a doctor, Zhou Ke'er was certain of this.

Sun Zhichao, seeing a glimmer of hope, had a crazed look in his eyes.

"Then let's go find Zhang Yi, and make him bring the medicine to save me!"

"My injuries are his fault, so he has to save me!"

Wang Min clenched her teeth, her face a picture of conflict.

"But after what just happened, he must despise us! Why would he give us medicine?"

Ge Jialiang couldn't bear the pain any longer.

He lay on the couch, moaning in agony.

"Ouch, I feel like I'm dying."

"Think of something! Beg Zhang Yi, he must save us!"

Fang Yuqing also said, "We didn't harm him, and we even planned to leave some supplies for him after breaking in."

"Instead, he was ruthless to us. We are the righteous ones, what is there to fear!"

Hearing their words, Zhou Ke'er had a pretty good idea of what had happened and her eyes flashed with speechlessness.

But this matter had nothing to do with her, and she refrained from commenting.

Instead, she opened the medical kit, took out some gauze, and began to stop the bleeding for a few people.

There was hardly anything left in the medical kit.

The medicine she kept at home was for emergencies, not in large quantities.

And these past few days, she had been helping several neighbors, so naturally, the supplies were running low.

If Wang Min and the others couldn't get the medicine, perhaps all she could do was help remove the arrows and bandage them up as best as she could.

At least... it might make their deaths less painful.

The group was good at talking big.

Even now, they still believed they were not in the wrong.

They were just trying to survive, what could be wrong with that?

The blame could only be placed on Zhang Yi for being too selfish. Why should he alone enjoy such good living conditions?

After pondering for a while, Wang Min suddenly pointed at Fang Yuqing and said, "You'll handle this! I know Zhang Yi pursued you before, so you're the best person for the job."

Sun Zhichao and Ge Jialiang weakly expressed their agreement.

After all, it was Fang Yuqing who had started all this.

If she hadn't told them about Zhang Yi's home and assured them that his defenses were weak and could be easily breached, they wouldn't have foolishly risked their lives.

Although Zhou Peng was reluctant to let Fang Yuqing beg Zhang Yi, the severe pain in his arm and the danger of death made him side with Wang Min.

He said to Fang Yuqing, "Yuqing, we're a team, right? Please bear with this for us. We can all protect you better if we're alive."

Fang Yuqing's face was torn, her heart extremely unwilling.

After all, she had already been humiliated by Zhang Yi.

But now, she had no choice.

It was only because of her relationship with Zhou Peng that she could join this group.

Otherwise, as a fragile woman, she would be of no use against bullies like Chen Zhenghao.

No other team would take her in.

Even if she could join another, she might end up being treated as a plaything.

Women, especially those without any skills other than coquettishness and beauty, were so cheap in the apocalypse.

Zhou Ke'er picked up the scalpel; with limited conditions, sterilization was impossible.

Even an alcohol lamp would freeze in this temperature.

Moreover, without medicine, sterilization was now a meaningless task.

She had Sun Zhichao bite on a towel, then she began to extract the arrow.

The screams from the anesthesia-free surgery were like those of a pig being slaughtered, and Sun Zhichao nearly bit through the towel in his mouth!

The whole room was horrified, urging Fang Yuqing to hurry and ask Zhang Yi for medicine.

Fang Yuqing, with a heavy heart, dialed Zhang Yi's WeChat voice call.

"Beep... beep... beep..."

Zhang Yi was at home, preparing to eat something.

Strangely enough, although it was his first time killing someone, he felt incredibly calm.

No fear, but rather an exhilarating sense of revenge.

He was pleased with himself; to survive the apocalypse, one must have this mindset.

He had feared he might vomit or suffer from insomnia.

After all, he had been through more desperate situations than anyone else here, and nothing could shake his composure now.

Then the phone rang.

Zhang Yi, intrigued, picked it up and saw it was Fang Yuqing calling. His eyes widened, and a surprised smile played on his lips.

"Oh? Just got beaten up by me, and now you want to call and scold me?"

Zhang Yi didn't hesitate to answer.

The more miserable they were, the happier he was.

He turned on the speakerphone and continued making lunch in the kitchen.

"Hello, what's up?"

Zhang Yi's voice was very gentle, as if he wasn't the one who had just killed Lu Tao and shot arrows at Sun Zhichao and the others.

But the gentler his tone, the more chilling it felt to Fang Yuqing and the others.

Fang Yuqing, under the watchful eyes of the others, also had the speakerphone on during the conversation.

She pleaded, "Zhang Yi, Lu Tao is dead, Zhou Peng and the others have been shot by you, they're dying too. Wuu wuu wuu..."

She cried miserably, seemingly trying to gain Zhang Yi's sympathy.

However, Zhang Yi simply responded indifferently, "Oh, dead is dead. Sooner or later, everyone has to die, right?"

He held a knife close to the microphone and eerily said, "You don't really think you can survive this snow disaster, do you?"

His voice was like one from hell, sending chills down the spines of Wang Min and the others.

Zhang Yi voiced their deepest fear.

The snow had sealed off the city, turning their building into an isolated island.

Even if they were barely alive now, supplies would soon run out. If Chen Zhenghao didn't kill them, the cold or starvation would.

Fang Yuqing sobbed tremulously, "Zhang Yi, I know it's my fault, it's all because of me, I shouldn't have rejected your advances. But now I've changed my mind, can you forgive me?"
