Chapter 11 – Dark Dream

Starry Lin returned to her own home.

There was no one in the house. Her mother was probably out fooling around with her new lover. This made the girl breathe a sigh of relief.

She didn't plan to go out tonight. Starry Lin ate something casually, prepared her belongings, and planned to go to the places where those bastards often went tomorrow to see what the situation was like.

...

On this night, Starry Lin, who was alone at home, was not awakened by her mother who always came back late at night. She wouldn't be disturbed by the lingering sounds coming from the next room and couldn't sleep all night. She didn't have to be afraid because of the strangers her mother brought back, and she didn't have to be cautious even when using the bathroom, afraid of being noticed by the other person.

So, she had a rare good night's sleep and had a deep dream.

She dreamed of a sea.

In front of her was a deep and silent ocean without any light. There was no sun, no stars or moon, no trace of light, so everything was shrouded in darkness. Starry Lin could only guess that she might be on the coast based on the sound of flowing water in her ears and the cold and moist feeling under her feet.

Or was it a muddy swamp? An endless black lake?

Starry Lin hesitated for a moment and took a step forward.

The sound of the surging tide became louder.

She suddenly became afraid.

If she continued forward, would she fall into an abyss? Starry Lin looked down at her feet, but she couldn't see anything.

There was only boundless...darkness that flowed like a living creature.

At this moment, from the other end of the sea, a call came.

Vaguely, like someone whispering to her.

Starry Lin was surprised. She instinctively felt that the sea in front of her was vast and boundless, a real ocean...no, maybe even wider than the oceans on Earth, extending to the end of this world.

Who could speak to her from such a distant place at the end of the world?

A desire suddenly emerged from the depths of the girl's heart.

Being alone in the infinite darkness was too lonely.

This ocean was not big enough! Starry Lin thought, it could completely accommodate and devour more things, even if it swallowed the entire human race, it would be no problem, even the whole Earth could be submerged!

While the girl was lost in her thoughts, she took another step forward--

And she fell.

...

Starry Lin didn't feel any pain.

Before the fear could arise, she fell into the sea.

In an instant, her skin, muscles, meridians, and bones all peeled away, leaving only the last soul, not ascending to the sky, but sinking into the sea.

But she didn't feel sad at all. Joy filled her deep inside.

Anything that fell into the black sea would be instantly swallowed, losing its fixed limbs and form, merging with the ocean.

It was as gentle as a mother's embrace, but its erosion was more fierce than aqua regia. As a human, she was naturally no exception.

However, Starry Lin was different from other swallowed beings. She effortlessly merged the sea and herself--

Inside the ocean, all living creatures were left with chaotic consciousness, and their selves disappeared. But she could "use" the vast and boundless dark sea as if it were her own.

This was a kind of return, as if returning to the most primitive state.

With a thought, Starry Lin's consciousness instantly crossed millions of miles and blinked to the place where the call came from.

It was not a human who summoned her, but a hole.

That hole was like a pitch-black sun falling from the sky to the ground. Its size should be huge, but for Starry Lin, who had become the ocean in her dream, it was within reach like a toy.

In the middle of the hole was a circle of white doors, emitting a faint light, and the voice that called her came from inside.

Without hesitation, Starry Lin plunged into the hole.

The roaring seawater formed a huge whirlwind that connected the sky and the earth, and the sound of rushing water filled her ears.

Then, light and sound returned--

Although the outside of the hole was still a pitch-black night, compared to the world inside the hole, there was light everywhere, and there were familiar sounds that made her nostalgic.

She could smell the fresh air, feel the night breeze blowing on her face, see the countless fireflies hovering under the dim halo of street lamps, the earthworms wriggling under the soil, the stray cats leaping lightly over the gaps on the wall, and the sound of the person sleeping in the house...everywhere was full of vibrant beauty.

The past Starry Lin had never realized that the world she was in was constantly running like this, with countless creatures active on the "surface" at all times, never a moment of silence.

If she were still human, when she walked through such a dim alley, she would definitely feel scared--fear of darkness, fear of silence, these were innate instincts of humans. But now, Starry Lin, who had just run out of the truly desolate world, could look at it with a completely different perspective.

"Unfortunately, the hole is too small, and only a small part of 'me' can come out..."

Starry Lin turned her head a little regretfully and glanced at her "body".

The narrow opening of the hole only allowed a tiny part of the black sea to penetrate, like a huge monster lurking in a cave, stretching out a insignificant tentacle to the outside world, or like an entire underground river being squeezed into a water pipe, but only a drop could leak out from the faucet.

Even so, if she fully extended the body that was currently in the human world, it would also be considered a huge creature.

However, is the place she is currently in...

Is it the real world?

Starry Lin suddenly became confused.

Wasn't she dreaming?

In terms of dream standards, was it a bit too clear?

And, can the dark and silent world just now be called her imagination? How did she blink and arrive at a familiar place?

...Familiar? Yes, very familiar.

Starry Lin remembered.

She sniffed, and the voice rang again, accompanied by the "fragrance" that made her hungry.

Is it something delicious? The girl... no, at this moment it should be said that her consciousness was driving the monster-like body to crawl on the ground, moving quickly.

The convex mirror at the corner of the alley reflected a cold light under the illumination of the street lamp, and the chaotic muddy flow on the ground flowed past in a strange scene, disappearing in a flash on the mirror.

In a small alley where disco music could faintly be heard in the background, Starry Lin finally found her target.

Two drunken men stumbled out from the back door, and a rat scurried past the sewer, splashing a large puddle of water.

"Hey, did you hear something?"

One of the men suddenly looked up and asked in a daze.

"What... sound? *hic* Maybe it's coming from inside..."

His companion burped.

"It doesn't sound like singing... forget it, it's probably just a rat. Let's go home early."

Starry Lin ignored them, her "gaze" completely focused on the young girl lying next to the trash can.

Wearing earrings, with dark yellow dyed hair, and her heavy makeup smeared. Her face was twisted in pain, and she curled up motionless, only occasionally letting out weak and feeble moans to prove that she was still alive.

But she was not far from death.

Starry Lin could see a strange, insect-like black shadow clinging to the girl's head. The tentacles on its body trembled slightly, as if it was vigorously drinking and extracting nutrients from the girl's body. The lower half of the shadow had completely merged with the girl's head and could not be separated.

The girl's face looked somewhat familiar.

This guy... this guy is...

She pondered for a moment, and suddenly her eyes lit up.

Isn't this Wang Nana?

How did she end up like this? What is that thing clinging to her? An extraterrestrial creature?

Starry Lin couldn't help but feel a sense of schadenfreude.

The strange "bug" seemed to sense her approach and was afraid. It immediately burrowed into Wang Nana's chest and disappeared.

The next second, Wang Nana, who was lying on the ground like a corpse, suddenly convulsed, as if having a seizure.

Soon, Wang Nana, trembling all over, "stood up" from the ground—no, more accurately, she was lifted up from behind like a puppet on strings, standing in place with a posture that could lose balance at any moment and was extremely awkward.

"Ah... ah ah..."

Wang Nana let out a suppressed and painful whimper from deep in her throat. She desperately opened her mouth wide, as her jaw had completely dislocated, allowing her mouth to open like a python preparing to devour its prey. Saliva flowed uncontrollably, and her bloodshot eyes rolled upwards.

Seeing this incredible scene, Starry Lin had an urge to laugh.

Theft is never good, try looking at [ pawread dot com ].

If it were someone else, they would definitely be terrified, but she found it funny.

Because, she was no longer a human, but a monster with power and size far surpassing the other.

Indeed, it's a dream, only in dreams can such absurd and unrestrained scenes happen...

Starry Lin, of course, wanted to retaliate against the other party, even if it was only in a dream.

Because in reality, she could only use mild methods—even if she wanted to kill the other party, even if she had the ability to do so, she had to forcibly endure her anger for her own future.

However, since it was a dream, it wouldn't be a problem to go a little overboard, right?

Moreover, Starry Lin couldn't hold back anymore.

She was just too hungry.

Suddenly, Wang Nana's body stretched and contracted, running backwards in a ridiculous clown-like manner. However, her speed was astonishingly fast. In the blink of an eye, she arrived at the bottom of the wall, effortlessly jumped onto the three-meter-high wall, and swayed her body as she rushed forward.

But this struggle was meaningless—

In a breath, Wang Nana's body was swallowed by the chaotic muddy flow.

The human flesh quickly dissolved, leaving only the strange shadow that burrowed out of the body. It desperately wriggled and twisted its long and thin body, trying to crawl out of the "water surface", but it was powerless against the terrifying erosion. Soon, it sank into the turbulent dark water with a "gudong gudong" sound, disappearing like someone accidentally stepping into a swamp.

"Hmm... it doesn't feel satisfying."

Starry Lin's "gaze" flickered for a moment. She could feel that there were far more than just one or two strange auras hidden in the night of this city, and there were even more powerful existences than the monster inside Wang Nana— in other words, more "delicious" existences.

But after all, she had eaten a bit of "food", even if it was just a small appetizer, it was enough to clear Starry Lin's mind and no longer be driven by intense hunger.

She began to think about how to continue playing out this dream.

As the saying goes, "Thoughts during the day, dreams at night." Starry Lin believed that the reason she dreamt of Wang Nana must be because of her experiences during the day.

Then, would other places appear in the dream?

Right! What about herself! She suddenly thought, what would it feel like to see herself dreaming in bed at this moment?

Thinking of this, Starry Lin didn't hesitate and started dragging her massive "body" towards home, afraid that the dream would be interrupted halfway and she wouldn't be able to realize this interesting idea.

However, the more she didn't want something to happen, the faster it would come—

When the pitch-black muddy flow surged into the alley, surrounding the small house, Starry Lin wanted to peer into the scene inside the house through the window, but suddenly, a cat's mournful cry came from nearby.

What, did it get scared when it saw me?

After all, the me in the dream is an extraordinary monster...

Suddenly, the girl realized that the entire dream world began to shake violently.

What's going on?

It was as if a piercing alarm was hovering around her ears. She felt surprised and a little uneasy.

The voice in her ears went from being distant and vague to suddenly being within arm's reach—

...

Starry Lin abruptly opened her eyes and sat up from the bed.

Her underwear was soaked with sweat, and the black-haired girl gasped heavily, raising her head instinctively and looking towards the window.——Ink-black darkness was covering the glass, clearly showing a massive torrent flowing past like a tide.

She held her breath in astonishment.

But a few breaths later, the strange blackness disappeared. In its place was a half-moon hanging in the sky, a dim and deep starry night, the yellowish light from the street lamps, the edges of the houses across the street, and the outlines of corners in the alley.

These were all familiar sights, as if everything that had just happened was merely an illusion.

Only the cat's meow coming from outside the window was exceptionally clear.
