Vol.1 - Chapter 72 – East District ribbon-cutting ceremony

In the blink of an eye, three days had passed since Su Li reached the eighth level of the Transcendent Dual Path.

In the morning, Su Li stretched lazily in bed and got up.

He pushed open the window.

The bright sunlight poured into the room.

Startled, the little bird singing on the balcony flew away.

The gentle breeze blew the curtains, swaying them lightly. Su Li closed his eyes and enjoyed the beauty of the sunlight for a moment before turning to enter the bathroom to freshen up.

Today was the day the East District would start construction again.

As one of the shareholders, he had received an invitation from the "winner," Chilov, to attend the grand ribbon-cutting ceremony.

After freshening up, Su Li hurried downstairs. Lilith was eating a steaming hot breakfast.

She glanced at Su Li and motioned for him to sit down.

After finishing the last spoonful of soft and sweet pumpkin porridge, Lilith wiped the corners of her mouth with a dining cloth and said to Su Li, "Take the dishes down when you're done. I'm full and I'll leave first."

"Huh!? You're leaving so soon today? Aren't you going to the East District ribbon-cutting ceremony with me? Where are you going?" Su Li asked.

Lilith picked up the umbrella by the table, her ham-like tail swinging gently, and jumped onto her shoulder.

"Going on a mission."

Su Li asked in confusion, "Wasn't there nothing last night?"

"Before you got up, the captain's messenger came. There have been several murders in the South District, suspected to be extraordinary cases. Perhaps there are sealed objects that need to be contained."

Lilith was already putting on her shoes at the door. Su Li asked again, "Do you need me to go with you?"

"You attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony in the East District as usual. If necessary, the captain's messenger will contact you."

With that, Lilith opened the door, her figure blurred, and disappeared on the spot.

After finishing his meal and picking up the dishes and utensils, the black carriage was already parked outside Su Li's villa.

He took out the scar-faced mask from his thief's belt and put it on. Su Li wore a solemn black suit and put the noble's handkerchief into his jacket pocket before walking out quickly.

Passing through the small garden, the winner Chilov, wearing a top hat and a flashy white suit, raised a glass of wine towards Su Li as a gesture.

This white suit, paired with Chilov's large inverted triangle figure, looked extremely flamboyant.

On both sides, the little brothers in black suits stood, bowing respectfully as Su Li descended the steps.

"Hello, Boss Two!"

Su Li felt familiar with these little brothers.

Looking at them again today, he noticed that their eyes held more reverence and gratitude.

Su Li nodded and, under the carriage driver's salute, boarded the carriage.

"Boss Two, let's go."

Hearing Chilov's teasing, Su Li smiled and took the wine handed to him, responding, "I thought you would wear a pink suit today."

At the mention of pink, Chilov felt nauseous and annoyed, saying, "You bring up what I don't want to talk about. Do you want to try my extraordinary ability?"

Su Li quickly waved his hand, "Forget it, leave it for those who need it. By the way, have you tried it?"

Chilov grinned mischievously, "Yes, I used it. I applied the 'unlucky egg' extraordinary power to the mayor yesterday."

Su Li frowned and asked, "Isn't he against you?"

Chilov glanced at his mouth and touched the new stubble on his face, "That's Bronson's backstage. How could he be against me? This guy is sent by the royal family and is quite greedy."

"Exploitation, smuggling, human trafficking, he does it all."

"Now that Bronson is dead, he has set his sights on the East District factory, even though it hasn't opened yet. He's already planning to collect taxes and arrange personnel."

This was his first encounter with the official power of this world, and Su Li didn't know much about the mayor and other officials in the government hall. But from Chilov's words, he had a certain understanding.

It seemed like a good choice to test Chilov's new ability with him.

"By the way, there's a new case in the south. Have you heard about it?" Su Li asked.

Chilov nodded and briefly explained what he knew through telepathy.

"I heard about it. It happened in our night patrol area. Members of our Red Glove Squad went to chase a group of magic drug smugglers last night, and then the murders happened in the South District."

"Magic drug smugglers?" Su Li was taken aback.

"Poor-quality magic drugs, specifically targeting some wealthy bosses. Do you remember the out-of-control person you killed last time? I suspect that the owner of the tailor shop on Kaitlan Street bought the magic drugs from them."

Su Li almost crushed the wine glass in anger. He suppressed his anger and asked, "What does this have to do with the murder case Lilith is investigating in the South District?"

"Perhaps there is no connection, but we are short of manpower. The occurrence of serial murders is suspected to be due to the loss of sealed objects."

Chilov rubbed his face. It seemed that he regretted not being able to participate in the mission due to the East District ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The atmosphere inside the carriage became somewhat quiet.

Chilov patted Su Li's shoulder and said, "Don't worry, just focus on what you have to do. You lack experience in dealing with sealed objects, but Captain Cameron and the others are there. D2 is an expert in this field, and he has already rushed over with Lilith."

Looking at the peaceful scenery outside the window, Su Li nodded.

...

More than ten minutes later.

The carriage smoothly arrived at the East District wharf.

There were a large number of refugees gathered here.

"I can build walls, take me!"

"Don't push, line up properly. Those who can do heavy work come over here, those who can spin and wash come over there."

"Anyone need a chef? I can cook..."

The voices of the people were clamoring, and several tables responsible for recruiting workers were surrounded by people.

Seeing this chaotic and lively scene, Su Li and Chilov's anxious mood improved a lot.

Having work meant having food.

It meant being able to support their families.

Su Li looked at the ragged people crowded together, feeling both bitter and happy.

For the poor, what they needed most was not just a bowl of porridge, but a stable job.

On the slowly moving carriage, Su Li worriedly asked, "Do you think the cultists will cause trouble? With so many refugees crowded together, what if..."

Chilov waved his hand, pointing to the police officer maintaining order among the crowd and on the nearby rooftop. He chuckled and said:

"Don't worry, this area is under the jurisdiction of the Adjudicator. Their people are on watch here every day."

"Cultists dare not show their faces."

As Chilov and Su Li were talking, someone shouted out of nowhere.

"The big boss is here!"

All the crowded refugees turned their heads.

"The big boss..."

"A good man."

Someone in the crowd shouted, and many eyes revealed a sense of longing.

Su Li's gaze fell on a child with a dirty little face.

He was a handsome little boy, at the age of learning.

His eyes were bright and clear, revealing a sense of longing and innocence.

His mother, tightly holding the little boy's hand, had come here today specifically to register for the charity school enrollment.

Looking at those faces, Su Li suddenly felt that everything was meaningful.

The carriage stopped, and Chilov opened the skylight, climbed to the top of the carriage, and extended his hand to Su Li.

Su Li hesitated for a moment, then followed Chilov onto the top of the carriage.

"Everyone, quiet down."

Soon, the East District factory, filled with people, fell silent.

His loud voice echoed from the top of the carriage:

"I, Koser Chilov, here, in the name of the Goddess, swear to you all!"

"There will be no deductions from the wages here, every child who comes to school will be free! As long as you work hard, everyone will have clothes to wear, everyone will be able to eat their fill!"

He raised his rough hand, tapping his chest four times, his voice resonant:

"Praise the Goddess!"

In the eyes of all the refugees, a glimmer of light flashed, following Chilov's prayer gesture.

"Praise the Goddess!"
