Arriving at the dirty and messy Rodvia Inn.
The security officer in charge of guarding the crime scene stood up and saluted when he saw Sorl and Su Li.
"Are there any suspicious individuals coming in and out?"
Sorl casually asked.
"Sir, they are all tenants here, no strangers have come."
Gray, with a small mustache, smiled and replied. Although this young police officer looked young, his belly had already started to grow fat.
It can be seen that there is a lot of money to be made in the southern district. Even a young security officer can afford to get fat, which shows a stark contrast to the poor people who are as thin as matchsticks.
After receiving the registration list handed over by Gray, Sorl carefully looked through it and then handed it back, saying, "Take us up to have a look."
Entering the inn, the landlady was spinning a spinning wheel in the lobby, while several female workers were sewing with needles, mending some worn-out bedding.
The old wooden bar looked shabby, and the whole room was filled with a musty smell.
"Sir, after this investigation, can the rooms be rented out?"
The landlady stopped her work and showed a stiff and tired smile.
Su Li was taken aback, but Sorl spoke up, "Yes, if there are no problems, then rent them out."
"Thank you, thank you, sir," the landlady said gratefully.
It can be hard to make great work when its stolen from "pawread dot com".
Climbing the creaking old stairs, the three of them reached the second floor.
Su Li asked in a low voice, "The room where the murder just happened is going to be rented out immediately?"
Sorl sighed and said helplessly, "This is the southern district. Human life is as worthless as straw. If you don't let the landlady rent it out, most of the tenants in the room would find a place to spend the night. Some of them are weak and can't afford medical treatment. They might even die."
"Many times, it's not that the rich are lucky, but that the poor have a low ability to withstand risks. A small illness, if they stop working, they might starve to death."
"Ordinary people can't afford any accidents."
The three of them arrived on the dimly lit second floor. The walls were covered with mold, and there was a covered toilet outside each room, next to a rusty stove with a strong unpleasant smell.
"Here it is, gentlemen."
Gray resisted the urge to cover his nose and pushed open an old wooden door sealed with a strip of tape.
With a creaking sound, the open door revealed the scene inside.
It was an old room filled with bunk beds. Most of the bedding was blackened from use, and many old clothes were used as pillows.
In order to preserve the scene, the body had not been removed. Following the stench, Su Li lowered his head and saw the body under the bed.
Dirty mattresses were spread out under every bed, and a few rolls of bedding were scattered on one side. Once they were spread out, there was no place to step in the whole room.
"How many people can sleep in this room?" Su Li asked.
"Including hammocks and mattresses, about seventeen or eighteen."
Gray didn't know what this had to do with the investigation, but since it was a question from the superior, he naturally dared not refuse to answer.
"But these rooms are rented in shifts, after all, sleeping doesn't take a whole day. Some guests rent during the day, and some at night. So in reality, this room may have more than thirty tenants."
"Of course, it's very cheap, only half a penny for a night's sleep, and the price can be even lower for long-term rentals."
Listening to Gray's endless introduction, Su Li gained a further understanding of the harsh environment here.
Sorl interrupted the talkative security officer and waved his hand, saying, "Stay outside."
Gray nodded and quickly went out, closing the door obediently.
Su Li bent down and, together with Sorl, pulled the body out from under the bed along with the bedding.
The cause of death can be determined. It was caused by that sealed object," Sorl said briefly.
Su Li took a deep breath. He couldn't imagine why a poor person dressed so shabbily would die from a transcendent event.
"Let's start the summoning ritual."
Kneeling on one knee, Su Li closed his eyes, and as his spiritual power spread rapidly throughout the room, the awakening ability of the soul master was activated.
Like a lullaby in the dark night, Su Li's emanating transcendent power instantly enveloped the entire inn.
In the silent inn room, a cold breath gathered. Su Li opened his eyes in surprise.
He found that there was not a single spirit appearing in the entire inn.
Although Su Li had just taken the magic medicine not long ago, a soul master was still a soul master. Once the magic medicine was successfully taken, it would immediately bring him unique talents.
Summoning spirits, resolving grievances, and even removing vengeful spirits.
"Could it be that the spirits were too fragile and dissipated directly?"
Su Li asked Sorl.
The latter immediately gave an answer, saying decisively, "It's impossible for there to be none. This is too abnormal. Someone has taken away all the spirits in this area before us!"
Sorl turned around and shouted, "Gray, take care of the body, recheck the list of people entering and leaving here for me!"The young sheriff, who hadn't even been gone for half a minute, had no idea what had happened. He extinguished the freshly lit cigarette in his mouth against the wall, reluctantly watching the two inspectors who had hurriedly come out. He quickly handed over the record book.
Grabbing the record book, Sorl sifted through one unfamiliar name after another.
He quickly descended the stairs, with Su Li following closely behind.
"Madam, are you sure all the guests today are regulars?"
The landlady nervously replied, "Apart from Mr. Gauss who came to collect the rent, no one else has come in. After all, a murder just happened... Only a few fearless vagrants came to inquire about vacancies."
"Because the body hasn't been moved yet, I didn't dare let them go upstairs."
"Gauss?" Su Li caught the key point.
Sorl sneered, "So many rooms, each earning a shilling a day. In a day, a small inn can almost earn a gold pound."
"Do you think all the money belongs to the landlady?"
"This inn has to pay a rent of 25 pounds every month, all of which belongs to Mayor's brother-in-law, Gauss!"
His words indirectly ruled out this 'vampire' who exploited the poor.
As the real owner of the inn, it was almost impossible for Gauss to sabotage his own money-making machine.
"What about those who checked out? Has anyone checked out?" Sorl asked.
Hearing Sorl's question, a maid suddenly spoke up, "I remember now, there was a strange gentleman. He rented a bed, but he rarely came back. This is quite strange, considering he rented a good room, where only four people live, and it costs ten copper pennies a week."
"What's so strange about that?" Su Li asked.
The maid continued, "Although he wore old clothes, he was very decent and even had a bit of fragrance on him."
Indeed, not stinking in such a harsh environment was the strange part.
"His bed is often vacant. He came back today, and although he didn't check out, his room fee is only enough for two more days. I even reminded him to pay. I asked him if he would continue to stay." The landlady said.
Su Li quickly asked, "Where is his room? Is he still in the inn now?"
"He just came back for a bit and then left." The landlady and the maid answered simultaneously.
Sorl and Su Li exchanged a glance and said, "Let's go up and take a look."
