Vol.1 - Chapter 121 – School of Life

Taliesin glanced meaningfully at Lilith and Su Li.

Without saying anything more, she turned around and lifted the counter, then said:

"Bringing outsiders into the underground black market is a big taboo."

"This time, you owe me a big favor."

Su Li didn't expect that this place was not only a private mine entrance, but also an underground black market belonging to adventurers.

Taliesin flipped out six identical faceless masks from behind the counter and handed them over.

These were six identical faceless masks, with only the eyes and nose visible, and the mouth hidden beneath the mask.

"Put them on."

Lilith said briefly.

As they put on the faceless masks, a cool and fitting sensation came over them.

With a strange spiritual fluctuation, Su Li and the others were enveloped in mist, instantly becoming misty figures with only "faces".

"The masks are not disposable. The rental price is ten pounds per day."

Following Taliesin into the underground of the Lucky House, a small square was revealed inside.

"You can't enter here without a mask. Now you can tell me what exactly you have encountered."

Leading the way, Taliesin asked.

Without answering the question, Lilith said:

"Let's go to Boone's father first. My companions need treatment."

Seeing that Lilith didn't want to answer directly, Taliesin tactfully stopped asking and led everyone towards the depths of the square.

Su Li whispered:

"How are you so familiar with this place?"

Lilith replied:

"Before joining the Night Church, I was an adventurer."

As she spoke, Lilith quickly transmitted her voice:

"Don't mention the bloodstone at all. Later, do as I say and don't say too much."

"Understood."

Su Li replied briefly and began to look around Budra's underground black market.

Inside the square, there were misty figures and stall owners everywhere.

If the things sold at the Lantern Night Market were considered openly prohibited items, involving extraordinary items that ordinary people should not come into contact with, such as magic ore, then the things sold in the underground black market were even more diverse.

At several stalls, Su Li saw extraordinary characteristics, sealed objects, and even some people's organs.

For example, a person's ear connected to a large number of nerves, an elf brain immersed in an unknown liquid, and some low-level distorted slave mutants, demon's spiked tails, and so on.

Walking all the way to the depths of the square, Su Li saw several shops carved into the rocks.

Taliesin said:

"The antidote to remove petrification and other things you need can be found with Boone's father. I won't accompany you in."

Lilith thanked her and led Su Li into the stone house.

Inside the house, an old man with a monocle was dissecting a berserker. The latter was obviously still alive, with something stuffed in his mouth, tied to a stone bed, and trembling constantly.

The strong smell of blood permeated the air as the old man poured various unknown liquids into the berserker's opened cavity, emitting a large amount of foul-smelling smoke.

Hanging from the berserker's arm were four large bags of blood, and several assistants wearing the same faceless masks were busy using their extraordinary abilities for treatment.

Seeing the bloody and cruel experiment in front of him, Su Li couldn't help but frown.

Lilith took the lead and walked in, saying:

"Father, still researching how to treat berserkers?"

Boone, who was called father, looked up and adjusted the eyepatch on his left eye, surprised:

"Oh, this voice is from the little ghost girl."

"What wind blew you here?"

Lilith didn't mind the blood stains and foul smell on the old man's body, and went forward to hug him.

Boone, with the monocle, laughed and instructed his assistants:

"Close the shop and lock the door."

One of the misty figures asked:

"Father, what about the test subject?"

Without hesitation, Boone said:

"Dispose of it and collect the extraordinary characteristics."

Upon hearing the old man's instructions, several assistants stopped using their extraordinary powers, and the berserker soon fell silent, with a small red gelatinous crystal forming on his head.

As the door closed, Lilith took off the faceless mask and held Boone's hand, introducing Su Li:

"This is Boone, the professor of the School of Life, who has devoted his life to researching how to reverse extraordinary individuals back to normal humans."

Hearing Lilith's introduction, Boone smiled and said:

"What professor? Just a delusional scholar. Just call me father."

With a simple introduction, Su Li suddenly felt a sense of admiration. He had been an extraordinary individual for a long time and had a solid grasp of mystical knowledge.

He knew the hardships involved.

For ordinary humans to become extraordinary individuals, they only needed to be contaminated by magic drugs.

However, it was almost impossible to remove the contamination and turn extraordinary individuals back into humans.

At least, according to the mystical books of the Night Church, contamination was absolutely irreversible.

If this old man succeeded in his research, it would not only mean that the subjugated subhumans could become normal humans again, but also that extraordinary individuals would no longer have to face the inevitable loss of control.

As a member of the extraordinary individuals, Su Li, who wanted to get rid of the contamination of the Dragon Path every day, took off the faceless mask and bowed respectfully:

"Father Boone, hello."

Seeing Su Li, who had dispelled the mist, Boone circled around him and exclaimed:

"Petrification? That's not difficult to deal with. Ghost girl, why didn't you bring your companions back to the Night Church? Why did you come to me?"

"Could it be that you missed me? Just came to see me?"

Lilith didn't waste any words either. She lifted the masks of Joan of Arc and the others one by one, revealing four mist-covered bodies.Joan of Arc and the others were in a dire state, their hearts exposed to the air, beating slower and slower.

Soon, they would become corpses, new slaves to the ancient evil.

"What happened here?!"

Boone rushed over in surprise, using his monocle to carefully examine the exposed hearts.

Lilith said, "They've been contaminated by the spirits of the ancient evil Nightmare Castle. Can you cure this, dad?"

Adjusting his monocle, Boone said solemnly, "Removing the contamination and healing the wounds isn't difficult. The problem is that after this contamination, their lifespans won't be long. If I'm not mistaken, they're all ordinary people, right?"

Su Li and Lilith nodded in agreement with Boone's assessment.

"How much longer can they live?" Lilith asked.

"At most a year, but it could be as short as three months." Boone's words were essentially a death sentence for them.

"What can we do?!" Su Li asked.

These were four living beings who were about to pay the price of their lives for a single adventure. As their familiar companion, Su Li couldn't accept such a heavy outcome.

"The only way to prolong their lives is to take a magic potion and become extraordinary," Boone said.
