Vol.2 - Chapter 21 – Flame Bar

Holding the VIP tickets, the two of them pretended to inspect under the gaze of the members of the mechanical team.

There weren't many first-class seats, so Su Li and Lilith randomly found two seats and sat down.

The facilities on the train were quite complete. In the front seat's basket, there was today's newly released Saiya River Daily.

Su Li casually took out the Saiya River Daily and sure enough, the front page headline was about the lightning strike incident in Delan Becca's main city.

"Shocking! Delan Becca experiences abnormal weather, lightning strikes destroy over a hundred buildings in the city area. Witnesses claim to have seen a flying person in the sky, suspected to be the Storm Church displaying miracles to stop the thunderstorm."

"Gossip news, Queen District's famous blues singer, Sassy, involved in a bar brawl with a man..."

"Large-scale protest and demonstration in the East District, urgent need to reduce air pollution."

Flipping through Delan Becca's newspaper, Su Li actually found it quite interesting. The news headlines were full of sensationalism.

However, after becoming an extraordinary individual, he always felt a bit indifferent when reading the newspaper.

After all, he was still far from the truth. If the reports were accompanied by dynamic photos of the Ghost Ship Battle and the two major churches, Storm Church and Eternal Sun, it would definitely be more attractive.

This made Su Li see a business opportunity. On his VIP card, the gear card of the Steam and Mechanical Church was dynamic. Unfortunately, the cost of that thing should not be low. Otherwise, with the financial resources of the Steam and Mechanical Church, he wouldn't have the chance to do such a good thing.

The speed of the underground railway was much faster than that of a carriage.

Forty minutes later, the train safely arrived in the lower district.

There were no more first-class seats at this time. After all, no wealthy person would go to the chaotic and poor district with poor public security at night.

Similar to Plinsk Street in Sederay, the lower district was filled with a large number of slaves, lower-class people, and the poor.

This was the cradle of cheap labor. Most of the middle-class laundry workers, part-time workers, and gardeners lived here, relying on the subway to travel to the eight districts every day to earn meager wages.

Of course, the higher-ranking nobles had dedicated servants' quarters in their homes, so they didn't need to travel back and forth.

After getting off the train, there was a huge crowd around the subway, and the air here was even more polluted. Many vendors were shouting and selling cheap food.

Su Li frowned when he saw someone selling their own children.

"Take a look, hardworking child, nimble hands and feet, just give him a meal, only three gold pounds."

These people either stood or knelt, and some even had straw mats beside them, with bodies wrapped inside emitting a pungent smell.

Many buyers pointed and gestured, even treating them roughly like livestock, pulling the people being sold over and inspecting them as if checking goods.

"No one is managing this? Delan Becca is still involved in human trafficking?"

"These people can't manage it. They are all desperate poor people who would rather be arrested by the police so they can have a few days of full meals. In fact, human trafficking has always existed. Haven't you seen the Grace of God's slave transport car? Many people who don't work will face the situation of starving to death. This is the reality."

Lilith sighed. With her experience, her situation wasn't much better than these poor people before she became an adventurer.

Hearing this, Su Li felt somewhat helpless. This place was equivalent to the 17th century or even earlier. For many people, living here was like living in hell.

This was also why Chilov insisted on running factories. Many people were not afraid of labor. They just hoped to have a job to support their families.

In such a harsh environment, it was called the breeding ground for evil gods by the major churches.

But the actual situation was difficult to change. The compulsory schools, welfare homes, and various public factories built by the church were just a drop in the bucket.

The lives of the poor were as cheap as straw, and the cults were like tumors, sucking the lives of these ordinary people. The demons could also obtain huge returns at a very low cost.

Although there were countless parasites and vampires in the capitalist world, there were still people like Lilith and Mourinho who continued to bear the burden.

Su Li walked to a child's side and touched the dirty head of the boy. He discreetly put five silver coins into the boy's thin pocket and said to him through voice transmission:

"Don't make a fuss, hide the money well. This is enough for you to bury your family and have a few meals."

The boy pursed his lips, feeling both anxious and excited. Tears silently flowed down his almost numb face.

He didn't dare to thank Su Li, afraid that the five silver coins would be discovered and taken away by someone.

He just stupidly stared at the distant figures of Su Li and Lilith, lost in thought.

Su Li didn't stay long at the subway entrance of the lower district, nor did he do any unnecessary good deeds.

With his current financial resources, anything he did would be of little help.

Lilith didn't comment on Su Li's actions. Facing the floating dust in the air, she just opened her witch's umbrella, tilting it to cover both of them.

Walking through the muddy and narrow, foul-smelling alley, many homeless beggars looked at them with numb eyes.

Su Li adjusted his clothes and revealed the revolver holstered at his waist.

This saved them a lot of trouble.

Passing through the poor district of the lower street, the two quickly arrived at the true dark side of Delan Becca.

Neon lights flickered with bright lights, and there were mercenaries, bounty hunters, and adventurers carrying weapons everywhere.

This was a paradise for adventurers and the cradle of the underworld.

Many scantily clad girls were soliciting business outside the shops.

Passing by numerous restaurants, Lilith led Su Li to a dark corner where a drunkard was leaning against the wall and vomiting.

Glancing at the drunken customer who was almost paralyzed, Lilith whispered:

"My appearance is too conspicuous here. I will transform into a ghost and attach myself to you. By utilizing the special trait of your vessel, even those who are adept at spiritual vision won't be able to detect anything unusual about us."

After Su Li nodded in agreement, Lilith's figure quickly faded and possessed Su Li.

The drunken patron was startled and struggled to get up, but the alcohol made his limbs uncooperative. After swaying several times, he still couldn't sit up from the ground.

Walking straight out of the alley, Su Li headed directly to the Flame Bar.

It was a place with a huge signboard shaped like burning flames, filled with many patrons and bustling with business.

Having had previous bar experiences, Su Li was familiar with the routine. He pushed open the gate and walked into the Flame Bar.

The noisy sounds filled the surroundings, everywhere was filled with the smell of cigarettes and strong alcohol.

Su Li looked around, watching the guests laughing and drinking merrily. He avoided the drunken patrons and sat down at the bar, saying to the bartender:

"Recommend me a drink, it's my first time here."

The bartender put down the cleaned glass and pointed to a table of guests not far away, saying:

"Over there... our signature, Flame Cocktail. It's not high in alcohol content, but it's definitely explosive. I guarantee you'll love it."

Su Li turned his head and looked at the table. His pupils contracted sharply.

In front of the burning cocktail, sat three people he recognized. They were Tock, Gauss, and Lindsey, the night watchers of the Gauls Parish!
