Chapter 17 – Goat and Dog

"Goat and Dog..." Qi Xia narrowed his eyes, carefully pondering everything.

At first, the person who called himself "Goat of Human" wanted them to kill each other, but now this "Goat of Human" was expressing great concern for them and saying that he couldn't just watch them die.

"Isn't this a lie..."

Suddenly, a bright light flashed in Qi Xia's mind.

That's right!

This is it!

Lies!

Everything was just as Qi Xia had anticipated. "Goat" and "Dog" were not names of people at all, but rather "game types"!

Could "Goat" represent the story of "The Boy Who Cried Wolf"? In the game of "Goat," the child who herded the sheep was not saved because he lied multiple times, so the game of "Goat" involved "lies" and was a "lying" game.

Could "Dog" represent loyalty? Just like in the previous Harpoon game, if they hadn't cooperated, none of them would have survived. So could it mean "cooperation"?

Qi Xia picked up the harpoon again and looked at it. He knew that "Goat" had mentioned the possibility of lying when explaining the rules.

But in these few sentences, which one was the lie?

"I can't just watch you all die." If this sentence was a lie...

"Wait..." Qi Xia's eyes widened slowly. "This passage is not the 'answer,' but a trap that killed everyone."

"What are you talking about?" Qiao Jiajin asked in confusion.

"This passage is all lies!" Qi Xia said decisively. "Standing against the wall will result in 'death,' while standing under the hole is 'life'!"

Dr. Zhao and Officer Li looked at each other, not knowing what Qi Xia was trying to express.

"Everyone, do you remember? 'Goat' can lie!" Qi Xia stood in the center of the room, trying to get everyone closer to him. "If we follow the rules he mentioned, we will end up killing ourselves. That's the difference between 'Goat' and 'Dog'!"

"But is this really reasonable?" Xiao Ran asked timidly. "Your head is the only place in the whole room with a hole. Isn't that the most dangerous place?"

Qi Xia hadn't thought about this point clearly either.

What could fall from the hole in the ceiling to kill the person against the wall?

"Well..." Qi Xia pondered for a moment and changed his statement. "It doesn't matter. After this level, we have a high probability of getting out, so you can choose according to your own thoughts."

"How do you know we can get out?" Officer Li asked cautiously.

"Because there is no 'preview' about the next game in this hint." Qi Xia answered, "This means there are two possibilities: either this is the last game, or the organizer is very confident that they can kill all of us in this game."

After hearing this, everyone's faces turned heavy, but they had no words to refute.

"Anyway, I will stay here." Qi Xia pointed to his feet. "As for how you choose, it's up to you."

After listening to Qi Xia's words, Qiao Jiajin slowly came to his side and said, "I've said it before, I believe in you."

"But I am a liar." Qi Xia replied coldly.

"It doesn't matter."

Lin Qin pondered carefully and then covered her mouth and nose as she walked towards the center of the room.

"Hey! What are you doing?" Xiao Ran shouted against the wall. "Do you really believe him?"

Lin Qin nodded slightly and said, "Yes, think carefully, who have we relied on to survive until now?"

Xiao Ran was stunned after hearing this and suddenly felt that what Lin Qin said made sense. After struggling with her thoughts for a while, she also followed.

Han Yimo covered the wound on his shoulder with his hand and walked over.

"You're... Qi Xia, right? I believe in you too." Tian Tian and Zhang Chenze followed.

At this moment, only Dr. Zhao and Officer Li were still clinging to the wall.

"Hey, aren't you coming?" Tian Tian shouted.

"I..." Dr. Zhao seemed hesitant, as if he hadn't decided how to choose.

"There's no need to force others." Qi Xia reached out and gestured. "This level doesn't involve cooperation. Just survive on your own."

The clock on the ground gradually reached 1:28.

Officer Li squinted his eyes and stared at Qi Xia.

He didn't think the liar would choose to seek death at this moment, but why did he bring everyone to stand under the hole?

At this moment, Lin Qin understood the thoughts of the two and said to them, "Qi Xia doesn't seem to be lying. Will you come over?"

"Can you tell?" Officer Li asked in a low voice.

"Yes." Lin Qin nodded. "Because of my job, most of the time I can tell if the other person is lying."

"In that case..." Officer Li and Dr. Zhao glanced at each other, then silently walked forward and said to Lin Qin, "Since a professional has spoken, we will believe you."Even as they spoke, the two of them still held onto the shattered table planks.

They walked under the hole, raising the planks above their heads. This way, no matter what fell from the hole, they would be prepared.

"You guys are pretty cunning." Qiao Jiajin grumbled, also intending to pick up a plank from the ground.

Qi Xia glanced at the time and stopped Qiao Jiajin.

"No need, we're out of time."

As soon as he finished speaking, the clock struck one-thirty. A loud chain sound echoed from the roof, as if something invisible was being wound up.

"Are you sure this is okay, liar?" Qiao Jiajin looked up timidly, feeling as if the current situation was like gambling. Only this time, the stakes were high - nine lives.

Qi Xia shook his head: "I'm just guessing, let's see if I'm right."

Suddenly, the entire room trembled slightly, causing everyone's hearts to tighten.

Instinctively, Tian Tian moved closer to Officer Li and Dr. Zhao.

Qi Xia looked up, his eyes fixed on the nine holes clustered together. His eyes seemed to want to pierce through the darkness, to find the mystery hidden within.

The next second, something dark spurted out of the nine holes, causing everyone to quickly close their eyes.

Only Qi Xia saw the true nature of these dark objects.

They were nine old, dirty hemp ropes.

He reached out and caught one of the ropes in his hand.

The ropes were about as thick as two fingers, just right to hold firmly.

"Damn..." Qi Xia's face changed, "It's worse than I thought."

Everyone slowly opened their eyes, only to find rotten-smelling ropes in front of them.

"What's going on?"

Before anyone could ask about their current situation, Qi Xia immediately shouted: "Grab the ropes!!"

The quicker ones immediately grabbed the ropes, and the rest followed suit.

Qi Xia turned his head to see Han Yimo, due to his injured right shoulder, could only weakly hold the rope with his left hand.

"No, you..."

Just as Qi Xia was about to say something, the floor beneath them suddenly crumbled into dust.

"Ah!"

"Damn!"

Screams erupted at the same time.

Everyone's bodies plummeted downwards, thankfully they had the ropes in their hands, preventing them from falling directly.

Han Yimo gritted his teeth, holding onto the rope with his left hand. But he was already losing blood, his strength was fading. Qi Xia watched as his grip on the rope gradually loosened.
