Vol.2 - Chapter 42 – The butler's lifelong wish has finally come true--

"Can you handle it? Or should I do it?"

In the Batcave, where half of it had collapsed and the entire defense system had been destroyed, it was as desolate as a post-war ruin, still filled with a large amount of fear gas.

Mason watched as Tim Drake, the third Robin, with a bruised face, gulping down blood replenishing potions and vitality potions, struggled into the Batplane in her red Robin suit.

The young man couldn't bear to see her like this and said, "You should be resting in the Kryptonian healing chamber. Bain broke at least five of your ribs. I don't need to examine you to know that your organs are bruised. You also show symptoms of a mild concussion."

"You're not familiar with the Batplane's controls. It would be difficult for you to break through the airspace that the League of Assassins has fortified around Gotham at the fastest speed. Besides, I can't continue to fight. Staying here is useless."

Robin struggled to fasten her seatbelt, grimacing in pain as she touched her wounds.

However, the blood replenishing potion that Mason had extracted from the Philosopher's Stone was powerful. It quickly reduced the swelling in Tim's eyes, which had been beaten to a slit. As she expertly activated the Batplane's various programs, she said to Mason, "I'll reach Central City within an hour and reestablish contact with the Justice League. Then, I'll switch the communication to the backup Bat network. You guys need to report the situation in time. As for Arkham, I'll leave it to you."

"I'm really afraid you'll die on the way. Being Robin is indeed a life-risking job."

Mason shook his head, took a high-grade blood replenishing potion that had been diluted ten times with unicorn blood and extracted with the Philosopher's Stone from his potion belt, and threw it to Tim, saying, "Drink it if you can't hold on."

Tim didn't refuse his kindness.

She took the bottle of silver potion that looked extraordinary and even emitted a faint glow in the dark, put it in the slot on the Batplane's control panel, and quickly ascended into the sky under the gaze of others after confirming the route with Alfred one last time. She disappeared into the night sky through the waterfall that was used to disguise the entrance of the Batcave.

"How's Grayson doing?"

Mason turned his gaze back to the Kryptonian healing chamber. Selina was operating the sophisticated medical equipment there. Afuo, who had just changed his clothes and returned to his role as the "Butler Hero", shook his head and said, "He's probably going to miss the upcoming operation to support Master Wayne."

"That won't do!"

Mason decisively said, "We're already short of people. Without Dick's help, this is going to be tough. I really owe the Bat family!"

He complained and handed the second potion mixed with unicorn blood to Afuo with a heartache, saying, "Give it to him. It's a weakened version of the potion that Bruce Wayne drank. It can help him recover quickly and enhance his physical fitness.

It's embarrassing to say that Nightwing was beaten up by Bain."

Alfred looked at Mason with a sidelong glance. After a few seconds, the old butler said faintly, "Your understanding of super villains is obviously flawed, Mason. Bain is already a formidable character worldwide. The fact that Master Dick was able to fight him for so long proves that he didn't waste his time in Bludhaven."

"Alright."

Mason seemed a bit unconvinced and still thought Dick was weak.

He walked towards the cave entrance to find Clayface, who had defected halfway to help, to fulfill their previous agreement. Before leaving, he suddenly said to Alfred in a low voice, "Do you see that kid tied up over there?"

"Hmm."

Old Afuo nodded and said indifferently, "A juvenile war criminal who has obviously been misled by the radical ideas of the League of Assassins. It's hard to imagine what kind of mentality the Assassins had to train such a child into a killing machine.

He must undergo professional psychological correction to possibly return to a normal state.

Considering the damage he caused to the Batcave tonight, perhaps we should send him to Arkham Asylum. This child is a threat to everyone.

He deserves a single room."

"Your evaluation of that little madman is really accurate."

Mason coughed with a suppressed laugh, put his hand on the serious-faced Alfred's shoulder, and said, "His name is Damian, Damian Al Ghul, or... Damian Wayne."

"Hmm?"

Alfred's expression changed dramatically.

The always elegant and outstanding Butler Hero was taken aback. He looked at Mason incredulously. The latter nodded at him and said seriously, "Yes, he is the only bloodline of Bruce Wayne so far, the product of Batman's brief romance with his senior sister Talia in the League of Assassins.

I heard some rumors that Talia stole Batman's genes and completed Damian's upbringing in the lab, but I personally prefer to believe that this child is indeed the forbidden product of a twisted love.

Otherwise, it can't explain why his personality is so bad.

The good news is, the Wayne family has a successor.

The bad news is, you're probably going to be busy for the next few years.

In addition to taking care of Batman, you also have to take care of a little madman who is a threat to everyone and should be locked up in Arkham Asylum."

"This is clearly two pieces of good news!"

Old Afuo grinned.

The heartache and anger he had felt for the destruction of the Batcave instantly turned into joy and satisfaction at the realization of his lifelong wish tonight.

This old man, who was regarded as a real family member by Thomas Wayne and had raised Bruce Wayne single-handedly, had pessimistically thought that his young master might never have offspring after Catwoman ran away from the wedding.

The bloodline of the Wayne family, which had been passed down for hundreds of years, would be cut off in a few decades.

But unexpected surprises often come so suddenly. The obsession in his heart to persuade Bruce to give up his Batman career and become a playboy who indulges in a life of pleasure and finds a good woman to marry and have children with suddenly disappeared, replaced by another rising obsession.

Bruce Wayne's obsession with being Batman is probably something that will never change in his lifetime.

In short, since Master Wayne is beyond saving, just let him be.

Theft is never good, try looking at [ pawread.com ].

As for himself, he is already old, and perhaps it is time to start a more important new career in the manor that he has served his whole life and considers as "home".

But Alfred quickly became conflicted again.

He looked at Damian, who was bound and unconscious on the platform by Catwoman, and then looked at Mason, saying:

"Master Damian clearly needs professional mental comfort. Perhaps I should order a batch of specialized drugs from you now, which can be used to treat his mental state without any side effects.

Also, Selina told me that this child has been influenced by some magic residue from being immersed in an evil pool for a long time. Maybe you can..."

Hmm."

The butler looked Mason up and down and finally extended an invitation, saying:

"Perhaps you can become a member of the Wayne family's private medical team and be our personal alchemist responsible for Master Damian's health condition? The salary can be negotiated completely."

"Although I personally don't want my career to be tied to the Wayne family, I am willing to be an additional guinea pig. But I think you should first reach an agreement with this little lunatic."

Mason sighed, feeling amazed at how "arrogant" every member of the Wayne family is. He shook his head and said:

"It's not easy to persuade him to change his twisted values that have been completely shaped by the King of Assassins."

"I have spent two-thirds of my life taking care of a man who is ten times more difficult than Master Damian."

Alfred smiled and said:

"I don't think this is a problem for me. Hmm, Master Damian needs a new room. Perhaps we can prepare a loyal little mastiff as a pet for him, which might be a good choice."

"Maybe we can prepare a cow."

Mason suggested:

"Find a cow with bat-shaped patterns on its body. It can also be used to teach him how to milk cows by some superheroes who are good at farming, which can pass the time. Although it sounds unreliable, believe me, I can see his love for small animals in his eyes."

"Also, can you allow me to enter the Batcave and help me select some weapon accessories?"

The young man took out a broken and unsightly sniper rifle from his bag, with a full sense of regret and reluctance, and said:

"I knew before I came that I had to sacrifice something for this victory, but I didn't expect to sacrifice my beloved backup gun right from the start. It accompanied me through those difficult days and nights, bringing me confidence and warmth in desperate situations. In order to deal with the upcoming battles, I may need to prepare a new weapon before we set off again."

"Of course, this request is reasonable."

Alfred nodded gentlemanly, but then he glanced at the collapsed Batcave and reminded:

"But all the weapons stored in the Batcave by Master Wayne are non-lethal, which doesn't seem to fit your combat style, does it?"

"No, they can be lethal."

Mason shook his head and took out his engineering toolbox from his bag, following Alfred towards the location of the Batcave. He whispered:

"Just a little 'modification' is needed to make Batman's 'kind weapons' become fierce again. Fortunately, I'm quite good at this."

Soon, with Alfred's special permission, the weapon arsenal of the Batcave opened before Mason's eyes.

As he walked in, he could see various types of equipment stored there, not only firearms but also various explosives classified and stored separately.

From emergency door breakers to building demolishers, from conventional explosive fragments to advanced E-missiles, the most exaggerated thing was that there were several large boxes of modular weapon accessories specially designed and produced by Wayne Industries' Military Technology Research and Development Department.

Mason's eyes lit up when he saw these things. He quickly approached and opened one of the accessory boxes, taking out a special black gun stock made of high-quality engineering materials for firearm modification.

An information label popped up:

Modular Firearm Modification Component

Quality: Fine Engineering Item, Standard Craftsmanship

Item Effect: The standard modular design of the accessory allows the user to assemble and modify standard weapons in a short period of time. The special design also allows the user to freely experiment according to their own needs.

Creator: Wayne Industries Military Technology Research and Development Department

Item Description: This thing is like building blocks. Novices can only use it to build houses, while experts can use it to assemble the Millennium Falcon.

Tip: Blueprints included. Engineering Level 2 is required to use modular components.

"So, is it time to unleash my true skills?"

Mason flexed his fingers. He looked at several boxes of high-quality weapon components piled around him and felt amazed at Master's audacity, while also having a very bold idea.

Perhaps he can take this opportunity to upgrade all of his backup guns?

The other members of Team K also need more powerful weapons, and as the team leader, he must prepare for the team's long-term development.

Anyway, Master probably doesn't care if these accessories are consumed. It would take him forever to use them all by himself, right?

He'll help him "clear the inventory."

With this in mind, Mason activated the blueprints of several different models of explosive shotguns on the translucent screen in front of him, and began to use his engineering knowledge at Level 3 to try to modify them.

These weapons are "initial weapons" with simple structures, so it is not very difficult to make improvements and enhancements. In addition to this, the pros and cons of various weapon collections from old K that were recorded in Mason's "Weapon Blueprint Library" had already been marked. Therefore, Mason only needed to select and assemble them like playing a match-three game to complete this kind of modification design.

As he modified the blueprints with his mind, he looked thoughtfully at the firearms that he had completely altered, feeling a sense of enlightenment in his heart. Perhaps this was the true essence of engineering.

After all, an excellent master of engineering would certainly not be limited to making things according to fixed blueprints.

Just like being reminded by Catwoman about the essence of alchemy, should he add some "personal characteristics" to the weapons he made?

"Hmm, I've always felt that the critical hit hand cannon is powerful in close combat, but two bullets are really not enough. The critical hit shotgun, which is used for medium-range combat, is inconvenient to carry and lacks accuracy.

As for the precisely calibrated critical hit hunting rifle, it's a bit of a waste to only have a semi-automatic mode."

Mason stood in front of a pile of parts, stroking his chin in thought:

"The most important thing is to consider the scenario of long-range sniping. My shooting skills are sufficient for a kilometer away, but my vision can't keep up. So, before I get a potion that can permanently enhance my vision, a necessary scope must be assembled."

Thinking this, Mason walked a few steps forward past the parts warehouse, and was pleasantly surprised to find a small bullet production line deep in the Bat Cave's armory.

This was a device specifically for the master to make special ammunition with various functions that would not kill.

Mason had always wanted to get this thing, but never had the time to look for it. Now, a trip to the Bat Cave had almost made up for everything he lacked.

He took out several cans of engineering gunpowder that he had prepared earlier from his bag, and put this improved version of the explosive, commonly known as "Goblin Sapper Gunpowder", into the bullet production line device.

The ammunition problem that had always troubled Mason would be solved tonight.

After starting the bullet production line to let it produce automatically, Mason quickly returned to the parts warehouse and began to assemble the gun he wanted according to the blueprints he had already modified.

Although he had ruthlessly fleeced the always wealthy master, which satisfied him, Mason still had regrets.

As he had thought before, these standard weapons were already a bit unable to keep up with the combat scenarios of him and K squad. They were fine for dealing with humanoid creatures, but when facing zombified magical animals, they were somewhat powerless, let alone the future exploration tasks and adventures in other worlds where they would definitely encounter stronger enemies.

If a darkened version of Superman appeared in front of them, were they supposed to greet him with ordinary bullets?

Would that even tickle him?

"The next goal of the engineering branch is to find more powerful weapon blueprints!"

Mason skillfully assembled various parts with his hands, and made up his mind:

"These things are definitely not easy to get, but the upcoming Star Conference trading day might be a good way. But this requires ensuring that K squad is not exposed in this event.

Sigh, being a spy is really not an easy job."
