Vol.3 - Chapter 4 – Captain! We're in big trouble now-

Mason had just returned to Gotham after crossing the door to the world. The school hat on his head immediately gave a warning signal.

"A suppressed burning power is approaching. It's the attention that was just focused here. Take action immediately, Mason! Hide the door to the world before that presence arrives."

"That's simple."

The young man took out the suitcase that he always carried with him and put the door to the world back into his bag. But then, the hat on his head reminded him again:

"That's not enough! The aftermath of time travel is still lingering. If we can't erase it, we can only disguise it. Put your hand into my belly, Mason. I have something that can help you."

"Your pocket dimension is really convenient."

Mason took off the hat and whispered:

"To be honest, I think it's troublesome to always carry a suitcase. I suddenly have a bold idea. Do you think I can..."

"No!"

Before the young man could finish speaking, the cold hat rejected him.

The school hat twisted its "body" and created a blurry face on its surface, scolding:

"My storage magic is only for emergency situations, not for you to put all your junk inside me. I may be down and out, but I still have some dignity."

It strongly rejected Mason's bold idea, causing the young man to pout. He casually reached into the hat and magically pulled out a golden broken pocket watch.

The exquisite dial of the watch was embedded with a small hourglass, like a timer. However, the hourglass itself was damaged, and a lot of sand had leaked out.

Mason recognized this item at a glance:

[Failed Time Converter]

Quality: Epic Engineering/Inscription/Enchantment/Alchemy Item - Perfect Craftsmanship

Item Effect: Rotate the timer to reverse time, each rotation will rewind one hour.

Item Status: The item is ineffective due to the damaged timer and severe loss of time sand. It requires Engineering Level 6 and an ounce of time sand to repair.

Creator: Dai Ying, Magical Crime Investigation Department.

Item Description: Have you heard of the "Grandmother Paradox"? Don't worry, that thing is a scam. The nature of time is much more complicated than that.

"Why are all the things in your belly such junk?"

Mason complained:

"So, besides assigning colleges to new students, do you also have a hobby of picking up trash?"

"Quiet! And I refuse to answer such an indecent question."

The school hat scolded and was about to teach Mason how to use the ineffective time converter to disguise the scene when it suddenly made a puzzled sound.

It said, "That power has stopped. Someone has intercepted it, just three blocks away."

Mason looked down at the lapel pin on his collar. The Hell Eye pendant was emitting a faint light. He lightly tapped it with his hand, and Zatanna's voice came from it.

"Listen to me, Brad. That's my residence in this city. I might have left some dangerous stuff there. I don't think you need to go there personally. Do you still not trust me, your longtime friend?"

Zatanna seemed to be talking to someone, which made Mason raise an eyebrow.

Undoubtedly, Zatanna deliberately gave him a hint to cooperate. Mason's eyes turned, and he immediately took out his phone. Instead of dialing immediately, he waited for almost half a minute before calling Zatanna.

At the same time, three blocks away, wearing a wrinkled khaki trench coat and smoking a cigarette, Constantine was having a meaningless conversation with a tall and silent man. Constantine took out his phone and glanced at it, then looked at the indifferent man across from him. He picked up the phone and answered with the speaker on.

"Master Constantine!"

Mason's voice came out in a frightened tone, shouting:

"The magical items you left in the laboratory are vibrating. You should come back and take a look!"

Constantine remained expressionless but secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

He repeatedly sighed that Mason was reliable. Whenever he entrusted something to him, he could always rest assured. Constantine calmly blew a smoke ring and impatiently said:

"That's enough! You foolish servant. It was a mistake to bring you into my domain in the first place. Didn't I teach you how to deal with that thing?

Don't bother me!

I'm having a chat with my esteemed good friend."

"You did teach me."

Mason's voice became even more fearful as he said:

"But this thing is glowing and buzzing. It was damaged just now, but I swear I didn't touch it out of curiosity. Anyway, you should come back and take a look."

Constantine frowned and glanced at the indifferent tall man across from him. He hung up the phone and said to him:

"Want to go take a look with me, Brad? If that thing I made a few days ago to monitor the city's temporal disturbances really has a problem, you'll have to take care of it."

"You always find ways to cause trouble, John."

Wearing a red suit, meticulously combed black hair, and a strong physique, the man spoke in a cold voice:

"I hate everything related to you, but if they consider Gotham as the area I'm responsible for, then I have to make sure there's no threat here.

Lead the way!

John, let's go to your place.

You better not be involved in this!

You also attended the meeting in the House of Mystery. You know how important and troublesome this matter is."

At this point, the tall man stopped for a moment. A sinister dark light flashed in his black and white eyes, and he said:"But personally, I really hope you get involved. I hope to catch you and throw you into Nyx's dark dungeon, and listen to your screams and wails.

Only then can you repay the debts you owe me."

"Stop with your demonic aura, Brad. The evil in your words is overflowing."

As Constantine took off his pipe and drew magic, he rolled his eyes and said:

"You're in human form now! Are you bored of being a person and want to go back to your old ways? Don't be ridiculous, your hellish territory has long been divided by your enemies.

Now you're just like me, an 'unwelcome' in the Ninth Circle of Hell."

A green teleportation gate opened, and Constantine flicked a cigarette into his mouth and stepped into it. The tall man behind him followed closely.

The two of them landed in the office on the top floor of the Iceberg Lounge.

As soon as Constantine entered, he exchanged a glance with Mason. Mason nodded slightly at him and motioned towards something on the table with his mouth.

Constantine immediately calmed down.

It seems that Mason had already foreseen the approaching danger and prepared everything in advance. Having such a partner really makes one feel secure and at ease.

"The aura of temporal disturbance is very weak but indeed present. My feelings were correct."

The tall man who followed Constantine into the office frowned and sniffed, then his captivating eyes looked at Mason, who was still bowing his head as a servant by Constantine's side.

Then, his gaze was drawn to the object Constantine picked up from the table.

"Ah, my alchemy is still not up to par. Look at this thing, it's already damaged before I even had a chance to use it."

Constantine picked up the malfunctioning time converter and caressed it with a sad expression, as if it was his own carefully crafted item that had a problem.

He handed the item to the man in front of him, who carefully examined it in his hands.

This man was obviously a magic user as well.

He touched the hidden inscription on the surface of the time converter with his fingers, and carefully identified the small hourglass that had obviously been treated with alchemy. Finally, he extended his finger and poured out a faint sand of time in front of him.

After several minutes of this, the man shook his head and returned the time converter to Constantine, saying:

"The leakage of the Sands of Time caused a slight distortion in the space-time here. Well, John, you've escaped another disaster. But I warn you!

You are not allowed to engage in your dangerous activities in this city anymore!

At least not now.

I'll be watching you."

After speaking, the tall man took another look at Mason, who had been bowing his head and maintaining the posture of a servant. He walked towards the office exit and pushed the door open.

Although the teleportation gate left by Constantine was still operating, he ignored the more convenient option.

"Hush!"

Constantine made a gesture to silence Mason. He waved his finger and several light spots flew out, as if some kind of detection. It wasn't until several minutes later that he breathed a sigh of relief and whispered:

"Jason Brad, the upper-level demon inside him can help him perceive any information within at least five blocks. It would be quite bad if that bastard targeted him.

They really know how to pick people. It's surprising that they managed to convince this guy to help. We need to be more discreet in our actions, Mason.

This place is no longer safe."

"Jason Brad? The legendary 'Demon Knight'?"

Mason blinked and asked.

He was fiercely glared at by Constantine and said:

"Don't mention the name of the demon here! Don't mention the name of the demon anywhere! You're just asking for trouble, luckily it's just a transliteration.

Its real name is much more complicated.

Listen, Mason, this is what I'm going to tell you next.

We're in trouble.

Big trouble!"

Constantine sighed and said:

"All the prominent magic users in the world, even some shady characters, have been summoned to the Mysterious Mansion.

Doctor Fate, Black Adam, and Lady Shiva, all these big shots are present. Even newcomers like Little Zha, who is a super wizard, are just assistants to them.

They spent half a day announcing a message to us. The whole world has been divided into thirteen regions, each led by different individuals to monitor and detect all temporal disturbances.

Brad is one of the three detectors responsible for the East Coast, the other two being Little Zha and Shazam.

Little Zha is easy to deal with.

I've already convinced him.

No need to worry about Shazam.

That guy is brainless."The only troublesome one is Jason Brad, you have to be careful of him. The attack from the Star Association has obviously triggered a counterattack in this world. Before the magic regulation is over, we have to be cautious."

The bad news brought back by Kang made Mason frowned, but then he realized a loophole.

He squinted at Kang and said softly:

"You've been gone for two days, and you said the meeting only took half a day? Why didn't you tell me this news after the meeting ended?

What were you doing for the rest of the time?"

"Well, didn't I say it?"

Constantine said with a sneer:

"I 'persuaded' Zuckerberg for us.

Well, I admit that I may have wasted some time, but we did a good job dealing with this 'sudden attack'. The cooperation was perfect.

By the way, why does your hat feel strange?

Let me see!"

Without waiting for Mason to stop him, Kang couldn't help but put his hand on the disguised school hat.

The temperamental hat obviously didn't like being touched by others. The moment John's hand touched the hat, a dark gray lightning struck the dark magician.

The latter screamed and fell to the ground, twitching.

"What a piercing curse!"

Mason exclaimed, ignoring Kang's pain, and bent down to take the time converter from his arms and put it back in his pocket.

He put on the disguised hat and walked to the floor-to-ceiling window of the office, looking at the city under the twilight.

He whispered:

"You may not be familiar with the names mentioned by Kang, but I can only tell you that they are the top group of spellcasters in this world.

Do you have the ability to help us continue to use the Gate of the World under their noses?

I know this is a troublesome task, but if you want me to help you hunt down those traitors"

"Mason, young man, your understanding of magic is too shallow."

The old and slow voice of the school hat sounded in the young man's mind, saying:

"Power is power, knowledge is knowledge!

These are two unrelated fields. Even though I have lost most of my power, those precious knowledge is still enough to help you hide in this crisis.

There's no time to waste.

Let's start now."

As soon as it finished speaking, a long and obscure message appeared in Mason's mind, and the character card in front of him flashed a few times, followed by a prompt:

"Detected the intervention of external power, identified as high-level enchantment/inscription knowledge transfer new blueprint X25 unlocked."

"These knowledge are a bit complicated, and I find it difficult to understand."

Mason looked at the enchantments and inscriptions in front of him, frowning and said:

"It's a bit difficult for me to complete it independently."

"I will teach you step by step."

The school hat reminded:

"And don't you have an assistant?

That prodigal son is a very talented soul. If he was born in Hogwarts, it would be impossible for him to enter Hogwarts with his character.

Oh, that is a lowly soul that naturally belongs to Azkaban!

But he can indeed help."

——

In the suburbs of Gotham City, Wayne Manor, a special guest visited here in the twilight near evening.

"Mr. Brad, you are indeed a rare guest."

The butler Alfred personally received this cold-faced guest, who was currently preparing a sedative for Damian in the manor according to Mason's instructions.

The whole process made the visiting Demon Knight raise an eyebrow.

He silently watched Afuo skillfully mix the potion and asked:

"Where did these medicines come from? Ordinary people cannot come into contact with such mysterious knowledge. Just by smelling the scent, I can confirm that these medicines come from a very ancient heritage."

"They were made for young Damian by one of our friends."

Afuo seemed to trust the man in front of him very much.

He picked up the pink mixture, and said politely:

"It is very useful. Young Master's mania and darkness have faded too much. Mr. Wayne is having dinner with a lady. You may need to wait a bit, Mr. Brad."

"It's okay, I'm always patient."

Brad looked at the potion in Afuo's hand, responded expressionlessly:

"And now I'm more interested in the origin of these medicines. When did a alchemist appear in the city? Can you introduce him to me?

Alfred Pennyworth."

The man paused for a moment and said softly:

"For the sake of the friendship between your ancestors and me."
