Vol.3 - Chapter 26 – Look, a failed man!

(For "Wyatt2048" brothers)

Outside the abandoned city, on the road leading to the coast, a gray batmobile rushed through like a city tank.

Selina, the driver, had excellent skills and proficient movements. She constantly changed gears of the batmobile, allowing it to maneuver flexibly on the roads filled with abandoned vehicles, which was completely inconsistent with its own huge size.

Each wheel of this thing had independent suspension, using bat black technology, allowing it to easily perform difficult maneuvers such as right-angle turns. However, Lady Elizabeth and the female pirate Angelina, who were huddled together in the co-pilot seat, had never seen such a situation before. Their faces turned pale amidst the constant acceleration and deceleration vibrations.

"Hold it in! Mason will be very angry if you vomit in the car."

Catwoman turned the steering wheel, allowing the batmobile to elegantly swerve and avoid the sulfur fireball that was coming from behind. Then, it whizzed through the flames in front. She said to her companions:

"If you feel uncomfortable, there are motion sickness pills. Mason really considers everything. Hey, can you two handle it?"

She used the car's communication device to ask Kite Man and Constantine, who were flying in the sky.

Hovering in the air, Kite Man, who was trying to dodge the flames, shouted:

"It's fine, but we won't be able to hold on if the reinforcements don't come soon. That guy can fly even without wings, John! Where the hell is your magic? Give it a shot!"

While being carried by Kite Man in the air, Constantine held a cherry wood wand that he didn't know where it came from and threw out a fierce fire curse. The blue flames flew up in the air and smashed towards the terrifying demon behind him.

But it didn't slow down the opponent's speed at all.

And just as Constantine clenched his teeth and gathered the green light at the top of the wand to cast a spell he had just learned from Ava, the reserve members of the Hydra Squad finally arrived.

He flew over!

A huge metal double-wing, filled with a sense of mechanical oppression, carried a person and descended from the high-altitude clouds. Under the rotation of the mechanical wings and the propulsion of the thrusters, it flew low like a heavy bomber.

Dozens of mini rockets flew out from the weapon box behind that guy, covering the demon that was chasing from behind in a burst of flaming explosions. Accompanying them were dazzling electric lights. Golden lightning rose from the ground like a speeding trident and struck the demon knight.

The two attacks didn't harm the powerful upper-level demon, but under the effect of the demon knight Jason Brad's rapidly returning consciousness, this dangerous demon, seeing that reinforcements had arrived, no longer continued to pursue.

It took advantage of the situation to fall into the abandoned building below, and under the second round of bombing from the passing figure, it took the opportunity to hide again.

"Hey, your companion."

Constantine stared at the guy with mechanical wings returning to the sky and teased Kite Man, who was also in a daze:

"He seems much more powerful than you, look at those mechanical wings, so cool!"

"Shut up! It's just that his wings are bigger, cooler, faster, and can carry more ammunition, and they are easier to control! What's the big deal?"

Kite Man stared at the figure of the flying guest approaching him in the sky, his gaze fixed on the futuristic mechanical wings.

It was like a wolf seeing a beautiful woman, or a beggar seeing a dollar roast chicken. He couldn't move his eyes away at all.

But he still pretended to be sour and said, as if he had eaten several lemons:

"Such a large size must consume a lot of fuel. My small wings are more environmentally friendly and convenient. Useless exaggerated design is meaningless. I don't want it."

"I get it. Being mouthy at the wrong time is a characteristic of the Kite Squad."

Constantine sneered and said:

"Stop drooling, don't embarrass yourself in front of outsiders."

"Companion of the Kite Squad, that car is pretty cool."

The aviator in the cool flight suit with a silver-green eye mask hovered in the air, allowing the thrusters of the mechanical wings to continue working.

He looked at Kite Man and Constantine in front of him, with a disdainful look at Kite Man's small and lousy flight backpack, but he didn't show this emotion.

He glanced at the batmobile speeding below and said to Charles and Constantine:

"Follow me, the sandstorm is waiting for you. By the way, you can call me 'Vulture'."

"I'm Kite Man."

Kite Man also wanted to introduce himself.

But he was interrupted by Constantine. The black magician deliberately lengthened his voice and said:

"He's called 'Pigeon'. Your names really make a pair."

"Hahaha, Pigeon, what a great name!"

Vulture compared his mechanical wings with Kite Man's small wings. It really looked like a mighty vulture and a weak pigeon facing each other in the sky.

He laughed heartily and turned around happily, leading the way.

Behind him, Constantine whispered to Kite Man:

"Look, with just a joke, you can make the other person lower their guard against you. This kind of cheap and effective flattery is the most inexpensive. I think you should learn something from it.

Hmph, you should thank Lord Constantine for teaching you something useful. You useless pigeon."

Constantine's words were so reasonable that Kite Man couldn't refute them.

They followed Vulture and headed towards the coast, quickly approaching the pentagonal small city built by the sea.

The walls surrounding it were built very tall, like city walls, and were covered with a firepower network composed of powerful machine guns and automatic turrets, which could perfectly withstand the attacks of the surrounding zombie groups.

Inside the small city, there were a large number of honeycomb grid-shaped floors built for people to live in.

When they flew over, Constantine and Kite Man saw that the people working on the ground were almost all wearing the same uniform, and their uniforms had a large logo printed on them:

"Osborn Enterprises".

The golden tower standing in the center of the shelter city also revealed its true form under the increasingly close gaze of the two. It was not a residential tower, but a support frame for some kind of super large equipment.

Just like an oil drilling rig.

A black giant prototype drill was being driven into the ground, and no one knew what it was mining.Soon, the members of Team K were brought before Mr. Sandstorm.

The Batmobile was definitely unable to enter the City of Sanctuary through the city gates. Selina used her magic spell to turn it into a model, and it was quickly sent to the high place where Mr. Sandstorm was located by Kite Man.

"Is Mason still in the city?"

With scars all over his face, Mr. Sandstorm, protected by his team members Vulture and another black-clothed person who appeared in yellow lightning, casually asked the present Scarecrow:

"Tell me, how were you discovered?"

"Because the Star Society's damn quality control is not strict enough!"

Constantine cursed while blowing smoke rings:

"Your world gate is obviously not as perfect as you advertised. Every time it opens, the temporal disturbance it causes can be detected by someone with ill intentions.

The demon that chased us here is the vanguard of the Magic Circle under the Justice League! He is a just person.

If it weren't for this wizard's preparation, we would have been trapped in the base and burned alive.

That idiot Mason has no idea how to lead us. This incident proves that his existence is meaningless. I don't plan to follow him anymore.

What about you?

Selina."

Scarecrow turned to look at Catwoman, and she cooperatively showed a displeased expression, putting her hands on her waist and saying:

"That little bastard better not come back alive, otherwise I'll settle the score with him, with interest! He dared to use that disgusting method to involve me in this damn thing. It's disgusting and annoying."

"The world gate does indeed have hidden dangers. I wanted to remind my juniors when I left last time."

Mr. Sandstorm said insincerely:

"But I didn't expect that because of my own affairs, you all would end up in this situation. This shouldn't have happened."

His gaze scrutinized Constantine, Catwoman, and Kite Man. As B-level personnel, he could clearly see the potential in these people.

Especially Scarecrow.

After all, even in the parallel world ruled by the Star Society, powerful spellcasters were rare.

But he wasn't so easily trusting of others. Whether these people were trustworthy still needed observation. He invited this team of people to rest in his residence.

After the others left, Constantine, who intentionally fell behind, whispered to Mr. Sandstorm:

"Did you see that hot-tempered girl?"

"Hmm?"

Sandstorm glanced at Scarecrow and waited for his next words.

The Black Magician grinned, revealing a sinister expression, and whispered:

"That's Batman's wife. They were just one wedding away. That idiot Mason drugged her and forced her into the pirate world, forcibly turning her into his team member, just like how he tempted me with some magic knowledge from another world.

The 17-year-old young man obviously overestimated himself. He can't control us at all.

But since things have come to this, I can only accept it. Personally, I would prefer to choose a more excellent and powerful team.

I heard you suffered heavy losses in Gotham?

Do you want revenge?"

Scarecrow licked his lips and played his role to the fullest, his face full of desire as he said:

"After it's done, Batman will be yours, and that girl will be mine. Deal? Of course, you have to help me kill that damn demon who has already targeted me."

"Indeed, these supernatural creatures are always dangerous."

Mr. Sandstorm didn't say whether it was good or bad. He answered expressionlessly:

"But your proposal is interesting. Let me consider it for a while."

He sent the group of people to the room below to rest, and gave a signal to his subordinate, Lightning Man, who nodded and transformed into an electric current, disappearing on the spot.

With his ability to move through all circuits and sense electromagnetic waves, he could easily uncover the secrets of these people.

"Vulture!"

Mr. Sandstorm turned to look at the abandoned city in the distance and said to another subordinate:

"You go to the city and see what's going on. If you can find Mason, kill him!

We are in desperate need of another world gate. This strange loss of contact is really troublesome. If I don't find a way to contact the Star Fortress soon, those people will think I've defected.

Sigh, it's really hard for Mason, who voluntarily delivered the goods to my door.

What a good junior. May his death please the Dark Stars."

---

"They successfully entered the City of Sanctuary."

In the abandoned city, Barbara looked at the coordinates on the mini-computer on her arm and said to Mason:

"But John voluntarily turned off the communicator. It seems that he is under close surveillance and has to remain silent for now."

"He might have defected."

Captain Jack, walking with a double-barreled shotgun in his hands and a half-mask on his face, said to the others:

"I'm not saying this because I'm biased, but that Constantine guy, I can tell he's a complete scoundrel. He's just as debauched and cunning as I was when I was young, even more sly and vicious than me.

Believe me, I won't be wrong about this."

"You're not wrong about that. Scarecrow is indeed a complete scumbag."

Mason held a high-tech rifle and walked forward without looking back, saying:

"Indeed, only those of the same kind can recognize each other at a glance. But I don't think he would make such a stupid choice. After all, Mr. Hunter has issued an execution order. Even if we fail, there are still the Next Life Team and the mysterious Xex Team to take over from us.

Sandstorm is doomed.

Scarecrow won't jump on a sinking ship. How much farther?"

"It's just ahead."

Barbara tracked the faint signal and looked up at the devastated streets ahead, as if they had been bombed. She frowned and said:

"But we have to find the entrance first. It's deep underground."

"There's something up ahead!"

Captain Jack, who was walking at the front, suddenly raised his hand and reminded them:

"There are a large number of creatures active, as if a battle has taken place. Barbara, release the drones!"

"Buzz."

A black bat-shaped drone immediately flew out of Batgirl's backpack and, under her precise control, bypassed the collapsed high-rise in front and showed the situation there to the four of them. From a high vantage point, a large group of strange-looking zombies could be seen howling as they rushed out from their hiding place to besiege a place that looked like a parking lot. However, the ground there was equipped with devices similar to guard towers, which would spew out fierce flames to ignite and burn the zombies whenever they approached.

This scene was very much like a scene in the Caribbean world where zombies hunted humans. Captain Jack expressed no interest in it.

But Mason squinted his eyes.

Amongst the group of zombies, he saw an unusually burly guy wearing a black suit, holding a cane and waving it around. His movements were not like those of mindless walking corpses.

In the roar of that guy, more zombies rushed out from the shadows and launched a continuous attack on the guard line of the tower.

"This guy is intelligent! And he can command these corpses?"

Barbara exclaimed.

Jason grabbed his weapon. Obviously, he sensed the danger.

"Indeed."

Mason stared at the imposing figure and said something strange. A few seconds later, he said to Barbara:

"Let the drone descend and enter the parking lot to see what's inside. If the zombie horde is so excited, there should still be living people inside."

"Okay."

Batgirl immediately changed the coordinates of the drone. The small reconnaissance device, as agile as a black bat, quickly rushed into the darkness of the guarded parking lot.

It activated night vision mode.

However, just as it flew in less than fifty meters, a figure suddenly flashed and grabbed it. Barbara was startled and was about to detonate the drone to avoid exposure, but Mason held her hand down.

The young man stared at the footage transmitted by the drone. In the black and white image, a face with a strange mask was reflected, with two large dark circles around the eyes and a mask without a mouth.

There were also patterns on the mask that resembled spider silk.

Mason's heart moved, and he turned on the communication switch of the drone. He said to the other side:

"Peter Parker?"

"Who are you?"

A vigilant voice came from the other side a few seconds later, questioning:

"Why are there still living people wandering around in the city? Did you escape from Osborn Tower? Or are you lackeys of the Sandman?"

"Well, such a hostile reaction doesn't seem like you, my dear Spider-Man."

Mason made a gesture, indicating that the team members didn't need to be nervous.

He took over the communication and said softly:

"You may not believe it, but we are trustworthy people. We have nothing to do with the Green Goblin or the Sandman. You can treat us as a group of backpackers who have mistakenly entered this place. So, what do we need to do to gain your trust?"

"You are the hunting dogs of the Star Society!"

A disgusted rebuke came from the other side:

"Get lost! I will never join you, and we don't need your help here!"

A quick look at "paw𝑟ead.com" will leave you more fulfilled.

"Click."

The communication was closed.

Mason turned around and looked at the three people behind him, saying:

"They do seem to need help. So, what are your opinions?"

"Click."

Jason pulled the gun bolt, and Barbara also raised the shotgun that Judy had given her, using actions instead of words.

Captain Jack wasn't very willing to rush out and fight the dangerous zombies for strangers, but seeing that Mason was ready to move forward, what could a weak and helpless legendary pirate like him do?

"At least give me a long gun."

Jack complained:

"What can I do with just a small pistol?"

"Here."

Mason threw a well-crafted kinetic energy shotgun to him, and casually gave him a few magazines loaded with explosive rounds. Jason also took out a magic warrior sword confiscated from the Amaterasu Squad from his bag and threw it to Jack.

He knew that this pirate's swordsmanship was pretty good.

Afterwards, the four of them rushed towards the defense line guarded by Spider-Man.

"'Zombie King' Jin Bing, the distrustful Spider-Man, the constantly strange shaking city, the suspected evil Hydra reserve member Vulture.

And the main villain, who calls himself 'Mr. Sandstorm'."

Mason aimed at the target, clicked his tongue, and said:

"Tsk, very interesting."
