Chapter 5 – Ignorance of the Rules

Liu Shuang had seen Qin Shou beat Yang Song senseless. After all, she was the one who had sent Yang Song to the section chief's office to move Qin Shou's things out.

But she hadn't intervened while Yang Song was getting beaten up.

Even though Qin Shou wasn't there to watch him, Yang Song, terrified of another beating, didn't dare to slack off in the slightest. He moved all of Qin Shou's belongings back into the office, doing his best to put everything back in its original place from memory.

Once he was done, Yang Song returned to the main office of the Secretariat Division to complain to Liu Shuang.

The moment Liu Shuang saw Yang Song's pathetic state, his face beaten black and blue like a panda's, she couldn't help but laugh. She even let out an audible snort.

A simp has no rights.

Even if a simp gets beaten to a pulp for his goddess, he won't receive an ounce of her pity—only her ridicule.

After all, a simp is only useful until he isn't, then he's discarded.

Like a dead dog tossed in the trash, his goddess wouldn't even give him a second glance.

"Didn't I tell you to clear out the section chief's office? Is it done?" Liu Shuang asked, her face cold.

"Section Chief Liu, Qin Shou suddenly showed up while I was clearing out the office. He beat me to a pulp. Then he threatened me, telling me to move everything back, or he'd beat me again. He said he'd beat me every single time he saw me."

"He beat you, and you didn't fight back?"

"I'm no match for him. He's an ex-soldier and a hell of a fighter."

"Useless! Even a dog knows to bite back when it's kicked! You're worse than a dog!"

Liu Shuang was deeply disappointed. Then, an idea struck her, and a sly, fox-like cunning flashed across her delicate, oval face.

The woman had concocted a vicious plan.

"Go to Secretary Yang. Complain to her. Tell her Qin Shou beat you up for no reason. Say that he has violent tendencies and has been randomly beating people ever since he became the section chief.

"Tell her you were coming back from the restroom and stepped into the office with your left foot first. Qin Shou started trouble, asking why you didn't use your right foot. Then, he beat you until you looked like this!"

"Yes, Section Chief Liu!"

Yang Song, ever the simp, was a classic case of someone who never learns his lesson.

As long as he could please his goddess, he'd forget the pain even before his wounds had a chance to heal.

Yang Song went to the County Party Secretary's office.

At the door, he gathered his thoughts and knocked.

Knock.

Knock, knock.

He knocked three times—one rap, followed by two more, all very light.

Inside the office, Yang Wenqing was sipping a cup of coffee.

Hearing the knock, she set down her cup, pulled out a tissue, and dabbed her mouth.

Then, she sat up straight, assuming the serious posture befitting a leader.

"Come in."

The office door was gently pushed open, and Yang Song walked in.

Yang Wenqing had previously only seen from afar that Yang Song's face was bruised and swollen. Now, seeing his panda-like face up close, she almost lost her composure.

But Yang Wenqing was a county party secretary who grew up in the compounds of high-ranking officials; anyone she grew up with was a master of hiding their true intentions. As such, she was perfectly capable of remaining composed even if a mountain were to collapse before her.

"Yang Song, what can I do for you?"

Yang Wenqing didn't ask Yang Song why he looked like a panda or who had beaten him.

Leaders only show that kind of concern for those they are truly close to.

And Yang Song would never be one of those people.

So, she would never take the initiative to show him any concern.

Besides, Yang Wenqing had already guessed that Yang Song was here on Liu Shuang's orders to file a complaint against Qin Shou.

"Secretary Yang, look at my face."

Yang Song rolled up his sleeves and pant legs. "And look at my arms, and my legs."

Yang Wenqing glanced over. Not wanting to get involved, she hinted, "Did you fall? You should be more careful. You should get to a hospital and have that checked out. Make sure there are no broken bones! I'll approve a few days of leave for you. Go get some rest and recover."

If Yang Song had any sense, he would have taken the hint, expressed his gratitude, and left.

But Yang Song was a blockhead. He didn't catch the underlying meaning. His mind was completely focused on pleasing his goddess, Liu Shuang.

So, he complained directly, "Secretary Yang, I didn't fall. I was beaten by Qin Shou."

Hearing this, Yang Wenqing's expression instantly darkened.

This Yang Song... Qin Shou was his section chief, yet he referred to him by his full name instead of his title. It was utterly disrespectful to a superior.

Furthermore, she was the County Party Secretary, not some busybody from the Neighborhood Committee!

How could he come to her with something like this?

Yang Song was simply too clueless, with no understanding of protocol!

However, Yang Wenqing couldn't just throw him out. Instead, she asked, "What exactly happened?"

"Secretary Yang, ever since Qin Shou became our section chief, he's been lording it over the Secretariat Division. He's a violent man who'll attack anyone he doesn't like. Everyone in the division, men and women, has been beaten by him.

"Just now, I was returning from the restroom and happened to step into the office with my left foot first. Qin Shou immediately confronted me, demanding to know why I didn't use my right foot.

"I told him there was no rule about which foot to use. He then said that entering with the right foot was his rule, one he had just established.

"To test my obedience, he ordered me to get out and crawl back into the office like a dog.

"I'm a man, not a dog! Of course I refused! That's when he flew into a rage, charged at me, pinned me to the floor, and beat me until I looked like this."

After listening to Yang Song's tale, Yang Wenqing's already sour expression darkened further, becoming as black as a thundercloud.

The nerve of this Yang Song!

How dare he spout such nonsense in front of her, the County Party Secretary?

Did he really take her for a fool? Did he think she was born yesterday, that she could be deceived by such a poorly fabricated story?

Yang Wenqing had wanted to remain neutral, to stay out of this mess.

If her subordinates wanted to fight, she would let them.

But for Yang Song to dare lie to her?

That was something she could not tolerate.

So, she decided to teach Yang Song a lesson.

Yang Wenqing only wanted to teach Yang Song a lesson; she had no intention of helping Qin Shou.

That beast Qin Shou! He was just a hooligan! He was no saint either.

"Yang Song, you claim Qin Shou beat you. And judging by your appearance, you were indeed beaten, and quite badly at that. However, I can't just take your word for it. Go and get Qin Shou. I want you two to confront each other in front of me."

"Yes! Secretary Yang!"

Yang Song ran off to find Qin Shou, confident that Secretary Yang would take his side. After all, he hadn't laid a single finger on Qin Shou during the beating. Naturally, Qin Shou was completely unscathed.

He was beaten into a panda, while Qin Shou didn't have a scratch on him. Secretary Yang was bound to take his side!
