Chapter 12 – Silver Wolf

Next, let's check the attributes of the level 10 monsters to see if we can take them on. If we can, we can continue farming for talents.

Crossing the Wild Wolf Plains and moving forward, a pack of wild wolves followed behind. There was no choice; wild wolves are aggressive creatures that will chase you once you enter their aggro range. However, with a movement speed of 33, Wu Shaochen wasn't too concerned, as they couldn't catch up to him anyway.

After walking for a while, a valley appeared ahead. From a distance, he could see several majestic silver wolves pacing back and forth inside the valley.

"Why is it wolves again?" Wu Shaochen felt a chill in his heart. He still needed to drink health potions to fight wild wolves, and these wolves looked much tougher.

He approached the mouth of the valley and cast Insight on the nearest silver wolf.

[Silver Wolf]

...

Well, this thing counters me completely, can't fight it at all… better run. Wu Shaochen turned around and left without a moment's hesitation.

Forget it, let's log off and eat something first. I've been playing for six hours, and all I've had today is a piece of bread. My body can't take it if this continues. Besides, I've earned so much money, I should treat myself.

Finding a safe place to log off, Wu Shaochen took off his helmet and sat up from the bed. He shook his head, feeling no discomfort, but then suddenly his stomach churned violently, and he rushed to the bathroom.

He spent over half an hour in there, and when he finally emerged, he was completely exhausted, stumbling out of the bathroom. "Sigh, that bread from lunch must have been expired. I shouldn't eat random things next time."

Sitting on the only worn-out sofa in his rental apartment, Wu Shaochen took out his mobile phone and indulgently ordered a family bucket meal. He had planned to eat out, but walking was too much of a hassle now, so he had to order takeout.

After placing the order, he started browsing forums on his phone. Almost every post was about Oracle, and two of the top three pinned posts were about him, each with millions of views.

1. [Speculations on High-Attribute Gear Frequently Appearing at Auction House in Novice Village 8365]

2. [Blank Slate Equipment at Auction House in Novice Village 8365 Sold for 60,000]

3. [Discovered the Boar King Boss in Novice Village, Attributes Attached, All Experts Wanting to Conquer the Boss Can Take a Look]

He clicked on the first post with interest. It was by someone claiming to be a game analyst, making some guesses about the equipment he had listed. Surprisingly, the person was quite accurate.

"Currently, three pieces of top-tier equipment are known to be listed in Novice Village 8365. I suspect the first two pieces dropped from level 6 Wild Boars, and the third, the Wolf Fang Necklace, likely dropped from level 9 Wild Wolves."

"I strongly urge the officials to investigate this person. I suspect they're using cheats. Forget about Wild Wolves; even level 6 Wild Boars are beyond what players can handle at this stage."

The comments below reached hundreds of thousands, mostly calling for an investigation into cheating. A few suggested it might be skill, but those voices were quickly drowned out.

The post even had an official response:

"Oracle does not have cheats!"

A simple and direct reply, with no extra words, yet it silenced those who wanted to continue the bandwagon of accusations.

"This official response is quite bold," Wu Shaochen remarked, touching his nose. He glanced at the other two posts and thought to himself, "I didn't expect someone to discover the Boar King. Looks like I need to hurry and take it down. Although no one can kill it in the short term, being watched isn't a good feeling."

After more than ten minutes, the takeout finally arrived. After a hearty meal, Wu Shaochen wiped his mouth, lay on the bed, put on his helmet, and logged back in.

Appearing at the spot where he logged off last time, Wu Shaochen checked his attributes. He still couldn't take on the Boar King, and fighting Wild Wolves would waste potions. Damn, do I have to go back to fighting Wild Boars? I feel like throwing up just thinking about them.

Maybe I should check out the level 8 monsters? If I can fight them, I might get some different equipment, and maybe with a bit of luck, I can gather enough attributes to take on the Boar King. The level 8 monsters should be beyond those spiders, so I need to be careful not to get caught in the disgusting spider webs in the Spider Jungle. Even with my current attributes, I can't withstand being trapped a few times.

Sigh, the monster distribution in this game is so random, it's going to screw over a lot of people. Just imagine most people thinking they can handle level 3 Green Snakes easily, so they decide to move deeper to challenge higher-level monsters, only to be caught by level 7 spiders. That kind of despair would probably leave a psychological scar.

Wu Shaochen navigated to the Spider Jungle with ease, using his high movement speed to reach the depths without any danger, finally encountering the level 8 monsters. Just looking at the toads in front of him made Wu Shaochen feel uncomfortable.

[Toad]

Level: 8

Health: 3200

Attack: 100

Defense: 48

Speed: 15

Skill: Tongue Sting: Extends its tongue to stab the target in front, ignoring 50% of defense to deal 145% physical damage, and reduces the target's movement speed by 30%. Cooldown time: 10 seconds.

Hmm, I can take this on. Wu Shaochen calculated that even with the Toad's skill ignoring 50 defense, it would only deal 137 damage to him. With his high health of 290, he wasn't worried at all. He currently had 23 points of poison damage, enough to take it down in three hits, and even with a 30% speed reduction, he still had 20 points of speed, more than enough to outmaneuver it.

Well, ugly is ugly, but I'll just endure it. It's not like I'm dating it.

A level 8 Toad could give Wu Shaochen 30 experience points, plus an extra 9 points for being 3 levels higher, totaling 39 experience points per kill. Killing 77 would allow him to level up. Besides 4 Copper Coins, Toads also dropped a kind of sticky saliva, which he guessed was a quest item. There should be a quest for every type of monster in the Novice Village. And so, Wu Shaochen began his toad-slaying journey.

Meanwhile, some of the leading players in the Novice Village had already reached level 3 and started strategizing against crabs. Each had a few pieces of equipment, and the strongest groups were fully equipped with defensive gear. However, most of the gear was low-attribute defensive gear dropped from Goats, offering little improvement. Even with groups of at least five, the crabs' attributes were still too strong for players at this stage, making the fight very challenging.

At this time, everyone in Novice Village 8365 was eagerly watching the Auction House, hoping the mysterious expert would list equipment again. Although many pieces of equipment had appeared at the Auction House, they were all low-attribute gear, and the prices were high. Some sellers, likely influenced by the high prices Wu Shaochen's equipment fetched, listed their items for 20,000 to 30,000, but no one was interested.

Just then, a pair of shoes was listed at the Auction House for 10,000, and it was snapped up within a second.

"What the hell just happened?"

"I think I saw a pair of shoes appear and then disappear."

"Damn, really, I checked the Auction House records, 5-attribute shoes, priced at 10,000, definitely listed by that expert. Who the hell has such fast reflexes! Must have been single for thirty years."
