Vol.3 - Chapter 6 – Witch's Time Cabin

On the open field, three people gathered around a claw machine, watching the movements of the metal claw intently.

Before Wang Jue arrived, Zhao Yijiu tried twice but failed, so Wang Jue became the hope of the whole village.

"Amazing!" Yu Xing watched as the second-to-last coin was inserted, and Wang Jue skillfully manipulated the button, grabbing a doll's head and sending it towards the exit.

Wang Jue's arrival gave a new lease of life to the stagnant amusement project. Two doll heads had already come out of the passage below and were picked up by Yu Xing and placed on top of the machine.

Now they were trying to grab the third one.

"This one is not difficult at all. It's fixed tightly and not easy to shake down. It's much easier to grab than the claw machines outside," Wang Jue muttered, unable to imagine how Yu Xing and Zhao Yijiu couldn't grab a single head with five coins. Zhao Yijiu remained silent while Yu Xing nodded in agreement.

Soon, the third doll head, with an elderly appearance, was successfully grabbed.

"Thank goodness for you, otherwise this project would have been ruined," Yu Xing sighed.

"Hehe, no problem." Wang Jue took out the third head from the passage and looked at the wrinkles on its face. "Where are the clues?"

The signboard said that three doll heads would provide a clue, but it didn't mention where the clue was. Yu Xing shrugged and casually reached out to the head placed on top of the machine, only to find it empty.

He raised an eyebrow and turned to look. The two heads that were previously placed there had disappeared—where were the heads?

They were right here, these two heads that were so big!

Before he had a chance to think, Yu Xing felt a chill on his neck. Something furry and densely wrapped around it.

He reached out to touch it, and the thing on his neck immediately tightened, causing a sense of suffocation.

It was hair!

In addition to the hair, there seemed to be something pressed against the back of his neck, laughing.

That should be a face.

The movements of these two heads were truly silent. Even though Yu Xing was so close to the heads, he didn't hear them disappear.

His gaze turned cold as he struggled in the tightening hair and managed to spare a glance at the other two.

The three heads were evenly distributed. One of them rolled around on the ground and bounced up like a ball, leaving behind pieces of flesh every time it borrowed force from the ground, which was quite disgusting.

As it bounced, it was struck by Zhao Yijiu's knife on the top of its head, and the metal of the mechanical part collided with the small knife, emitting a faint buzzing sound.

"Wow!" Wang Jue hadn't had a chance to see what happened, but the head in his hand suddenly opened its eyes and opened its blood-filled mouth, biting towards his wrist.

Being so close, he could clearly see the bloody and rotten flesh inside the head's mouth, as well as its unusually sharp teeth.

If it bit down, his hand would be crippled!

Without hesitation, Wang Jue conjured a yellow talisman out of thin air and quickly stuck it on the head's mouth.

After the talisman paper touched the head, a cold air burst out, causing the head to open its mouth in pain. Invisible blades cut through its mouth, leaving behind cuts on the human half of the head, while only leaving shallow white marks on the mechanical half.

Fortunately, Wang Jue was prepared, so the head couldn't bite him for the time being.

Seeing that all three of them were attacked, the doll head on the claw machine, Ai Li, finally spoke, "The clue is in the mouth of one of the three heads."

Wang Jue instantly realized what was going on and looked at the head that was tortured by the yellow talisman, realizing that it was actually fine. The clue must be in the mouth of one of the other heads, not this one, right?

He didn't want to see the inside of that mouth any clearer.

"Not in mine." Zhao Yijiu held a head like a skewer and, after prying open its mouth, said in a deep voice.

The clue could only be in the mouth of the head with long hair wrapped around Yu Xing's neck.

Both of them looked towards Yu Xing, whose neck was already being choked by the hair and seemed to be unable to breathe.

Wang Jue looked at Yu Xing, who seemed like a good young man with a cheerful personality and good manners. His face had turned pale, as if there was no blood under his skin. He couldn't help but want to help, "Quick, try to see if you can untangle it! If you can't, I-"

"I can." Yu Xing listened and raised his hand to forcefully pull the hair outwards, immediately regaining his ability to breathe. "I just wanted to see how much hair it had. After being tangled for so long, it's just a small bundle. It can't even cover my mouth and nose. It's bald!"

Wang Jue: "..."

Zhao Yijiu: "..."

Yu Xing was still mischievous. The head behind him had divided his hair into two strands and wrapped them around his neck. He grabbed one strand with each hand and pulled them out forcefully, almost pulling the hair and scalp off together.

The head had long stopped laughing and, with the intense pain in its scalp, it let out a howl of agony.

It sounded strangely pitiful.

"This head is unusually strong. You actually managed to pull it off with your bare hands?" After a brief moment of silence, Wang Jue suddenly realized that something was off.

"Yeah, you're stronger than I thought." Zhao Yijiu also added, a hint of wariness flashing in his eyes. "Although this is the first time we've played a deduction game together, I never saw this side of you during work. You're good at hiding."

Wang Jue looked at the two of them, pondering.

These two are supposedly colleagues in real life, but from the sound of it, Zhao Yijiu doesn't fully trust Yu Xing? In other words, in Zhao Yijiu's mind, Yu Xing is a possible culprit?

He observed Yu Xing and noticed that after hearing Zhao Yijiu's words, his hand paused and his expression seemed embarrassed for a moment, but he immediately covered it up. "Ahahaha, no, deductionists are all good at hiding."

"Perhaps." Zhao Yijiu glanced coldly at Yu Xing and looked at the head that Yu Xing had caught in his hand. "Give me the clue."

Yu Xing didn't waste any words and handed over the head.

The head with long hair was barely alive, its eyeballs rolling around. Zhao Yijiu took it and forcefully opened the mouth of the head. After seeing the neat rows of teeth, he saw a white piece of paper.

He disdainfully took out the paper and read a sentence written on it: "The detective has not walked with the killer so far."

After reading it, he showed the paper to the other two and then disdainfully stuffed it back into the mouth of the head.

As soon as he let go, the head escaped like a refugee and flew back into the doll machine, filling the empty space properly.

What kind of clue is this?

After Zhao Yijiu read out the clue, Wang Jue's expression cracked a bit.

But this clue... seems to be somewhat helpful for deduction.

"Wang Jue, did you and Xie Ze act together before? Why did you suddenly come to find us?" Yu Xing, who was a bit slow on the uptake, remembered and asked curiously.

"I was playing the carousel with Xie Ze just now, and then Xie Ze suddenly said that he didn't trust the two of us walking together. He happened to see that couple on the Ferris wheel and wanted to go over there to find them." Wang Jue said in frustration, "I was going to follow them, but for the next ride, they planned to play the big swing, which only allows three people. So they left me behind. Ling Heng told me that they saw you two go to the doll machine area on the Ferris wheel, so he asked me to come find you."

So that's how it is.

Yu Xing nodded thoughtfully.

The killer will definitely approach other people and try to find someone who looks more like the deceased. The detective can either contact the deceased to protect them or stay away from the deceased to confuse the killer.

Everyone is secretly observing each other. In addition to the obvious clues, everyone's intentions and actions can reveal a lot.

The three of them each had their own thoughts and walked towards the next ride. The sign at the doll machine area changed to "This ride is temporarily closed."

...

They originally wanted to play the haunted house.

But Wang Jue howled and said he was afraid of ghosts and didn't want to be scared by ghosts even in a non-supernatural deduction game. So they arrived at the entrance of the haunted house but refused to go in.

So Yu Xing, displaying his rare human kindness, patted Wang Jue's shoulder with great tolerance and compassion, and changed their target to another indoor activity.

They walked for a while and finally found a peculiar facility in a corner of the amusement park. It was a wooden house that didn't look big, with gears covering the walls, and a steam pipe sticking out somewhere, emitting white steam.

Alice's head was made into a sign hanging on the door, and underneath it was written in Gothic font - Witch's Time Cabin.

When they pushed open the door, a bell rang with an ethereal sound. Yu Xing's footsteps slowed for a moment, and he looked around in astonishment.

This place... is very special.

It was so special that as soon as the three of them entered, they involuntarily fell silent.

Upon entering the house, one could feel the difference between this place and others. Although it was also decorated in a steampunk style, there was a visible sense of antiquity here that was absent in other places.

The overall color tone here was a hazy moon gold, which, under the reflection of the lights, inexplicably revealed a few strands of gray in its warmth.

It was as if time, which should have been moving forward normally... had rusted.

Time was an abstract concept, but Yu Xing suddenly had this thought in an instant.

In his eyes, time...

was something that made people feel helpless.

He snapped out of his thoughts amidst the footsteps of Zhao Yijiu and Wang Jue, and continued to look around.

The hall was covered with a dark golden carpet, and besides the brown hardwood sofa and coffee table, there was a display case.

The display case was filled with exquisite objects from different eras, including models of the Eiffel Tower and Big Ben, notebooks that could be used as gifts, pen holders decorated with small gears, and models of Gothic castles...

There were hundreds of items piled up in a magnificent manner, and he could only name about half of them. There were also some things on the table that he had never seen before.

He casually picked up a feather pen, and unexpectedly, it was unexpectedly heavy, and he didn't know what material it was made of.

There were white thick threads winding around the hall, with several photos clipped to them with iron clips. There were portraits, scenery, as well as blurry fragments and uncomfortable horror scenes.

Yu Xing looked at these photos and suddenly felt a sense of familiarity.

He put down the feather pen and stopped in front of a photo with a brownish tone. In the photo, there was an old wooden boat stranded in the mud, with crooked oars leaning against the hull.

Through the small wooden boat, one could vaguely see a village not far away.

"So familiar..." Yu Xing murmured, feeling something, and carefully observed these photos.

Everything in the photos seemed to be something he had experienced before... or so he thought.

"Why are you staring at a tree?" Wang Jue leaned over and pointed to the photo of the small wooden boat, "By the way, I'm familiar with this big willow tree, but I can't remember why."

A tree?

Yu Xing looked at the small wooden boat and then at Wang Jue.

Wang Jue's mind should be fine.

So, it means that the same photo is seen differently by himself and Wang Jue.

He instantly realized that these photos should be generated based on each person's different memories.

Suddenly, Yu Xing caught a glimpse of something red.

His face immediately darkened, leaving Wang Jue, who was still marveling, and walked towards the photo where the red was.

This photo had been around for a long time and had started to turn yellow. In the photo, a handsome man in a light-colored robe and jacket sat on a intricately patterned wooden chair, his naturally smiling eyes piercing through the photo to gaze at Yu Xing with an indescribable intensity.

A distinctive earring hung from the man's left ear, a long, slender piece of colored glaze with a long tassel hanging beneath it. The red color was the natural hue of the glaze and tassel.

A strange, blood-red color.

The man possessed a beauty that transcended gender. Yu Xing stared at him calmly, but his fingers unconsciously clenched, almost digging into his flesh.

"Performer..." he muttered silently, the faint smile on the man's face in the photo seemed to carry a hint of mockery.

Yu Xing hadn't expected that this so-called "Time House" could replicate his memories in these photos.

These photos dredged up many experiences he had deliberately buried, especially the deep-seated hatred.

"Welcome."

Suddenly, the door on the inner side of the hall was opened. A cool, smooth voice like a flowing spring greeted them, followed by a long-haired woman walking out from the inner room.

The three people in the hall came back to their senses.

Yu Xing withdrew his gaze from the photo, a faint smile appearing at the corner of his mouth as he looked at the owner of the room.

Unexpectedly, he could see a NPC here who looked completely like a normal human being.

The woman was dressed in a black robe, her bare feet stepping on a dark gold carpet, her skin was fair, beautiful and delicate.

Her face was even more stunning, completely bare-faced, without any makeup, yet she was more beautiful than any woman Yu Xing had ever seen, especially those eyes glowing with a dark gold light, looking at him with a smile that seemed cold, as if they could make people fall into the old, tumble into the vortex of time.

For some reason, the woman's gaze lingered on Yu Xing for a bit longer. As they looked at each other, they both saw indifference in each other's eyes.

"Hello!" Wang Jue exclaimed, his eyes wide open, "May I ask who you are!?"

This woman's style was off.

If one were to use a Call of Cthulhu role-playing game as a comparison, then this woman's appearance was definitely above the maximum value for humans, belonging to the category of mythical creatures!

I, I can tell at a glance that you're not human!

The woman finally moved her gaze away from Yu Xing, and gave a slight nod to Wang Jue: "I am a witch, working part-time... for a day in this shop."

"Meow." A black furball on her shoulder moved, it turned out to be a small cat that had blended into the black robe.
