Vol.5 - Chapter 1 – Memory and Nightmare

The scene in front of him was blurry, as if covered by layers of red water ripples. He struggled to open his eyes and raised his hand in confusion.

His arm felt resistance, but at the same time, there was a slight buoyancy that caused his whole body to constantly sink and float in the narrow space.

Where am I?

He thought dazedly.

"Snap."

His hand accidentally touched the cold glass wall, causing him to shiver from the chill.

Who am I?

He pulled his hand back and helplessly hugged himself. His black hair, following his movements, softly wrapped around him from behind, being enveloped by the liquid.

Long hair? Is it mine?

Subconsciously, he reached out and pinched a strand, becoming even more confused. For some reason, in his understanding, someone of his gender shouldn't have long hair.

His ears were not at peace at all. The water pressure created a roaring sound, making it impossible for his mind to calm down.

The liquid was red. He gradually realized that he was immersed in something that resembled blood, but this liquid was stickier. However, it didn't hinder his breathing.

The liquid and he were both trapped in a small glass container. Outside the container, several blurry figures wearing white clothes noticed him and walked towards him.

They stopped outside the container, holding some papers and pointing at him.

It took him a while to react and look back, pressing against the transparent glass wall behind him.

Who are they and what are they doing?

Who am I, and why am I here?

Why are they looking at me?

One question after another emerged, but he couldn't speak. His voice would silently dissipate in the red liquid, as if it had never existed.

Am I locked up?

A great fear suddenly swept over him, making him restless. He glanced at himself.

No clothes.

His muscles were firm and slender, and his legs were straight and long, anxiously half-floating in the liquid.

On his body, there were numerous wounds crisscrossing, some already scabbed over, some still bleeding, revealing the white bones inside.

But he couldn't feel any pain.

He saw excitement on the faces of the people outside, and their conversation faintly reached his ears:

"He woke up."

"He is truly perfect. I have never seen an experimental subject with such a high compatibility."

"Hahaha, he will become our masterpiece. The performer will definitely be satisfied. Look, he is like a work of art."

"A dangerous and cruel work of art!"

He was very scared and desperately tried to shrink back, but he couldn't stop any of the gazes that were fixed on him.

He wasn't like a work of art, he was a human!

Just then, the blood color in the glass container became thicker, so thick that he couldn't see anything anymore.

The pure blood color was no longer transparent, blocking everything from the outside and giving him a long-lost sense of security.

He started to like the blood color.

He started to depend on the blood color.

"Crack."

A crack appeared in the container, and as he reached out to touch it, the crack suddenly widened. The next moment, the glass shattered with a sound!

"He's out!"

Chaotic voices came from all around, and he didn't know what he had done until he felt a strange sensation in his hand. He snapped back to reality and saw a corpse in front of him, wearing a white coat and wide-eyed.

The expression on the corpse's face was terrifying, although he had never faced it so clearly before, he knew that this was the person who called him a work of art.

"Ah!" Screams came from all around, people were screaming their hearts out, causing his eardrums to ache.

More screams.

Endless screams.

At first, he detested these screams, but gradually, he got used to them. With his body completely healed from the wounds, he sank and gradually became obsessed with the fear of others.

He wasn't human, he was a monster.

"Wake up! Yu Xing!" A woman's cold and stern voice exploded in his ears, even more uncomfortable than the screams.

Yu Xing woke up from the chaos, groaning.

Because the other person not only called him to wake up, but also grabbed his shoulders with a considerable amount of force, shaking him.

"It's fine, it's fine." Yu Xing struggled to open one eye and saw Qu Xianqing's face filled with nervousness, staring at him seriously with tightly pursed lips. Only then did he open both eyes.

He forced himself to wake up and his throat was still hoarse. "It was just a dream, don't worry, I'm fine."

Seeing that he was awake, Qu Xianqing suddenly let go. She had been kneeling on one knee on the bed, with one leg on the ground for support, and her body bent down.

Now she quickly retreated and stood firmly on the ground.

"I wasn't worried, I was just concerned that you were not in the right state. In case you lose control, it would threaten my safety." Qu Xianqing said seriously. If someone who didn't know her heard this, they might actually believe her.

Yu Xing chuckled softly, not exposing her concern.

He let out a sigh of relief, propped himself up on the bed, rubbed his temples, and felt helpless about the content of this dream.

Indeed, scenes from the organization came to his mind, resulting in this somewhat chaotic dream.

However, unlike ordinary dreams, this dream seemed to be mixed with some other power, like a pair of hands constantly trying to make him stay in the dream, sinking forever.

Of course, this was nothing to him. Even if Qu Xianqing didn't wake him up, he would have woken up soon.

"When the degree of personality differentiation is high, each increase will have a huge impact on a person." Qu Xianqing seemed to know what he was thinking and explained, "Your differentiation degree is already as high as fifty percent. If it were someone else, they would have lost their consciousness and gradually turned into a ghost. It's already very special that you can maintain human thinking."

"I knew that something abnormal would happen today after your differentiation degree increased by 1."

"From your perspective just now, what did I look like? By the way, how did you end up in my room?" Yu Xing asked after hearing her explanation. He didn't feel anything himself, not even breaking a sweat. Despite the intense emotions in his dream, it was only because he had no memory of reality in the dream. If it were him now, not to mention just seeing the glassware, even if he was locked in again, there would be no psychological fluctuations.

He was too young at that time, with few experiences, so his emotions were easily swayed.

Qu Xianqing sighed and sat on the edge of the bed, "You don't think the hotel door can stop me, do you? I knew you would be restless tonight, so I've been watching. Sure enough, your breath was off just now, so I came over."

"When I arrived, your skin seemed to be cracking everywhere. I could almost see the cracks, but in the end, it didn't crack and healed on its own."

She glanced at Yu Xing, "Of course, I only lifted your shirt to take a look, I didn't take off your pants. I don't know if there's anything wrong with your lower body, you can feel it yourself."

Yu Xing's eyes twitched, he looked down and indeed found that the quilt had been lifted, and his T-shirt was wrinkled.

I'm fine, absolutely fine, both my upper and lower body are in great condition.

"I've noticed that you," Yu Xing straightened his clothes and scrutinized Qu Xianqing, "have become more and more adept at teasing people as you grow up."

Qu Xianqing readily admitted, "You taught me well."
