Vol.5 - Chapter 4 – Under the River of Forgetfulness

The bell on his wrist was tightly wrapped around his skin, almost as if it had merged with his body. Every time he shook it, he could feel a gentle tug on his skin.

"Hiss..." Yu Xing naturally took a deep breath, not knowing what he was sighing about.

The others' expressions turned ugly, especially the two girls, Orange and Little Yan, who were in the same team. They were too scared to touch their wrists.

Although it didn't hurt, it was unsettling. After all, it was their wrists. If something happened, it would be just like cutting their wrists!

"Go, come back here in six hours, and I will settle your wages." The team leader waved his hand and hurried the deductionists, who were filled with fear, out.

After leaving the changing room, Little Yan's voice, filled with a sobbing tone, sounded behind Yu Xing. "Orange, what should we do? I'm scared!"

Yu Xing turned his attention back and saw that although Orange's face was pale, she was still gently comforting Little Yan by patting her back. "It's okay, don't be afraid. As long as we follow the rules, nothing will happen. I'm here."

It seemed that these two were really newcomers, most likely forced into the deduction game by the system when their time was up.

Yu Xing himself was actively participating in the system, so the system didn't remind him. In fact, deductionists below the differentiation level had to enter the game every half month, or else they would be forced to.

This kind of evasion was understandable, but it often meant that the deductionist himself was afraid. Usually, people like this didn't have good outcomes.

"Where are we going?" Zhao Yijiu interrupted Yu Xing's thoughts.

Yu Xing didn't speak, but just pointed to a sign in front of them.

The first floor was divided into three halls, and each hall narrowed down between two halls. There was a double-sided sign at the entrance.

The changing room was separate, and the sign at the entrance of the adjacent hall was called "Bian."

Zhao Yijiu understood what he meant. He wasn't saying that they should stay at Bian Bar, but that they should go to Bian Bar first to avoid others and discuss their action plan.

Leaving the six people who were still pondering in place, the two of them walked towards the bar.

Yu Xing lowered his voice and said, "Let's go to the River of Forgetfulness."

If the layout of the bar's first floor were to be drawn as a floor plan, Bian, Huangquan, and Wangchuan were connected from left to right, with the entrance located on the side of the Huangquan Hall.

When Yu Xing entered the deduction, he appeared directly in the middle of the Huangquan Hall. He didn't have time to go to the Wangchuan Hall to take a look, so he passed by Bian Bar and went to the changing room.

Zhao Yijiu said calmly, "Because of the stairs?"

"Exactly." Yu Xing calmly faced the occasional glances from the ghost customers in Bian Bar.

It was because the bar had a second floor, and they didn't see any stairs on their way to the changing room, so they could guess that the stairs leading to the second floor should be located near the Wangchuan Bar.

Being close to the stairs would make it more convenient for them to go up and down, and they could also observe the situation of other teams going up and down. There was also another important reason...

Yu Xing's eyes suddenly lit up, and he quickened his pace, squeezing into the crowd in the Huangquan Hall.

Zhao Yijiu didn't quite understand what was going on, but he felt something and turned his head to take a look. He saw a woman in a red dress standing up at some point, looking at Yu Xing's retreating figure with a slightly disappointed expression.

If Yu Xing hadn't slipped away fast enough, she might have caught up with him.

Zhao Yijiu: "..."

He didn't say anything and silently turned his head, making way for the dancing crowd and walking towards the Wangchuan Bar.

...

That was close.

Yu Xing successfully passed through the noisy crowd of ghosts, feeling a lingering fear.

That red-clothed malevolent ghost still hadn't given up on him!

With his current identity as a waiter, if the red-clothed malevolent ghost made any unreasonable demands, he wasn't afraid of being forced, but he was afraid that he might lose his temper and beat up the red-clothed malevolent ghost.

That would be a big problem. He would probably be immediately beaten up by the crowd and then face complaints.

Soon, Zhao Yijiu caught up without asking anything and went past him into the Wangchuan Hall.

Speaking of which, all the terms in this "Green-Capturing Ghost Bar" were quite interesting, corresponding to the legends of the underworld in ancient China.

Wangchuan referred to the River of Forgetfulness.

Many people thought that Huangquan was the river in the underworld that needed to be crossed, but that was a misunderstanding. The river that the spirits had to cross was called Wangchuan.

Biluo Huangquan, Biluo referred to the sky, and Huangquan referred to the underground. Although Huangquan was also known as one of the Nine Prisons and Nine Springs, in fact, it was a road underground.

According to legend, after a person died, guided by the ghost messenger, they would pass through the ghost gate and walk along the Huangquan Road. Before entering the underworld, the Wangchuan River would divide it into two banks. On the Wangchuan River, there was a Naihe Bridge. After drinking the soup of Meng Po on the bridge, all past memories became illusions.

The water of the Wangchuan River was blood yellow, and the Wangchuan Bar in the Green-Capturing Ghost Bar also used this color scheme.

The dim yellow lights illuminated each booth with a hazy glow. The dark yellow bar looked luxurious and textured. The liquor bottles in the cabinet against the wall were filled with intoxicatingly beautiful liquids. The bartender was a woman of unknown age, covered in black gauze that covered her mouth and nose, revealing only a pair of pure black eyes without any whites.

Yu Xing saw the stairs in the corner. The stairs were completely black, with blood-red accents on the handrails. He almost immediately thought of what the stairs represented - the Naihe Bridge.

So, did the second floor symbolize the underworld?

"Give us the drink menu."

Suddenly, Zhao Yijiu's voice sounded next to Yu Xing. Yu Xing looked over and saw that Zhao Yijiu had actually walked up to the bar counter and was actively talking to the female bartender.

There were only a few people sitting at the bar counter, probably because the night had just begun. For ghost creatures, the night was the best time to enjoy, so there weren't many people in the Wangchuan Hall compared to the lively Huangquan Hall.

The drink menu listed the names and prices of all the drinks for sale, making it convenient for customers to choose.

Yu Xing glanced at Zhao Yijiu. He didn't expect him to be quite experienced.

He also walked over."You must be the new waiters for today." The bartender, though oddly dressed, was evidently more pleasant than the male bartender from the Other Shore Hall, who had his face covered in white powder. She spoke softly, skillfully pulling out a piece of paper from under the counter and handing it to Zhao Yijiu. "Here, according to the rules, you must fulfill my request to get the complete drink list."

Zhao Yijiu nodded expressionlessly, glanced at the paper, and then passed it to Yu Xing.

Yu Xing quickly skimmed through it. The note read:

A malicious ghost climbed onto the ferry of the River of Forgetfulness. It bribed the ferryman and arrived at the Naihe Bridge. It should have been wandering in the river forever. Please find this malicious ghost in this hall and trick it into buying a drink called "Under the River of Forgetfulness".

In addition to this, the paper listed more than twenty types of drinks, but lacked descriptions and price lists.

Tongue of the Evil Ghost, Regretful Cocktail, Under the River of Forgetfulness, Insatiable Desire, Melancholic Spirit, Impermanence Ice Beer... more than twenty in total, including the most expensive one, Meng Po Soup.

"Interesting," Yu Xing muttered, exchanging a glance with Zhao Yijiu before turning around to start their task.

The bartender's hand paused, a sense of confusion even visible in her dark eyes.

Wait... they didn't even ask why such a rule exists, or how powerful this ghost is?

Are they really that enthusiastic about their work?
